About Japanese Heroes: Language Game

Do you want to know how to learn Japanese? The Japanese alphabet is easier than you think. Whether you are travelling to Tokyo or just want to watch some awesome Anime, learning to speak Japanese (and read Japanese) will improve your experience. No one has a better culture than Japan.

So, how do you easily learn Japanese? Just as you'd expect-- you fight a killer robot!

In modern Japan, a killer Robot is destroying the city. Only the four Japanese Heroes can stop him. They must use their individual powers (and you must pick up some language ability) to stop it.

The robot sends fireballs over Japan. Your selected hero must quickly translate the word or phrase that is sent in the fireball.

But you don't know Japanese? I'm afraid we need to throw you into the deep end here. The heroes (and all of Japan) need you.

In the first level of each language category, you will have a 50% chance of getting the right translation. You will read the Japanese alphabet and listen to the Japanese word spoken by a native speaker. At first, you'll be guessing. But as you start to see patterns in the shapes and sounds, you'll start learning Kanji in no time.

And you get to choose from one of four Japanese Heroes.

Japanese Heroes consists of over 60 language categories with over 600 Japanese words and phrases.

Japan needs you. Can you help the heroes save it?

Japanese Heroes is a game concept created by Sandee Chica of Overpass Apps. It has original design by Sandee. It was coded by Joey Chica. Japanese words and phrases were spoken by Rieah Masubuchi. The game was produced by Eric Wroolie of Overpass Apps.

How am I supposed to learn anything from this without knowing Kanji?! Start from the basics first. Also the recordings are so unclear that half the time I can't hear the recordings due to the sfx and the background music. Increase the quality of recordings. The only reason I'm able to do some of these exercises because I'm proficient in hiragana. This is awful for beginners.

Great game! I love how it uses kanji for words! It would be nice if it progressed to kanji. Like the first couple level 1-5 maybe? Uses the hiragana until we learn to pronounce the words, that way when the kanji comes in later we can learn that reading of the kanji. It's not really for straight up beginners since they need to know hiragana at least to get through the game play, but I think that is great! It's more likely to get someone to survive if they went to Japan. Romanji should only be used for when learning hiragana and katakana. If too many people complain, you could always ad it as a setting. Like give people a choice between romanji, kana, and kanji. The blue words at the top grow to be a little too big after around level 4. The ads aren't too invasive, but some times they lag and I end up clicking on too many adds because am choosing a word. I haven't gone through the available options yet, but I still think it's great. Especially for refreshing my memory on words I haven't used/seen in a while.

Super fun, but let us start levels from the basics, like lvl 1= a,e,i,o,u Lvl2= ko,ka ect. Otherwise we get confused.

I didn't think getting thrown into the deep end would with as a style of learning for me, but it's easy to feel accomplished after a few levels. Great job!!!

It's a good game but the different levels of the same categories (like animal) is the same. I would like to know more words pertaining to that category (not just animals). Thanks

I love how this gives you a nice sort of elementary school approach to learning the material, the only flaw aside from the ads interrupting in the middle of the lesson, is the need to have a good grasp on hirigana, but still a lot of good fun

This app has simple mechanics that make the gameplay easy to pick up immediately. Having the levels progress through both english and japanese on screen helps with making the connection between the characters and their meanings. This game does require a basic knowlege of kanji and kana in order to properly play it (or a desire for a tough challenge), otherwise you won't be able to read the Japanese words on screen. Overall, this is a very helpful and entertaining learning tool! For the dev team: There are a couple UI/UX things that need to be looked into. First off, there is a glitch in the game triggered by level 3 in each category. During level 3, the blue words switch from english to kanji/kana. When this happens, the font size is a little larger. If you keep playing through the levels, the font for the blue words gets bigger for each level in sequence, or chosen from the level menu. The font will get so big that it isn't visible on screen anymore. If you go to the category menu, the font size resets. Second, starting at level 4 the game gives four word choices to choose from. This is great for difficulty ramp, but the top word of each set overlaps with the word in blue. This makes it nearly impossible to play if you are on a level where the blue word isn't spoken. It is also unfair for beginners who need to see the words in blue for reference during gameplay. Third, it would be nice to have an option to change the volume on the spoken words. I know there is an option to turn off the background music/sound effects, but the background music sounds nice, it's just a little louder than optimal and sometimes makes it hard to clearly hear the spoken Japanese pronunciations. I am using an LG G5 running android 7.0 (nougat)--in case that is helpful info.

Interesting concept, would be a 5 start bbut ads keeps popping up in the middle of a round, just as I'm about to answer causing me to click the ad, or interrupt the question making it impossible to answer. Please put the ads after a round, not in the middle.

Stick to it and it'll teach more than you would have in a classroom. Great set up learn by failing but you catch up fast. Love it

It has abysmally low graphical quality paired with a very basic gameplay mechanism that gets very boring quick.
