Ostfriesland ist eine Region im äußersten Nordwesten Deutschlands, direkt an der Küste zur Nordsee. Zur Region gehören die dem Festland vorgelagerten Inseln. Ostfriesland ist wirtschaftlich von Landwirtschaft, Tourismus und einigen Industrie- und Dienstleistungsbranchen geprägt. Unter den größeren Industrieunternehmen finden sich ein Volkswagenwerk und Windenergieanlagen-Hersteller. Wirtschaftlicher Mittelpunkt der Region ist Emden. Schifffahrt hat eine jahrhundertelange Tradition in Ostfriesland. Die Stadt Leer ist einer der größten deutschen Reedereistandorte. Die Region wurde ab den 1850er Jahren durch die Eisenbahn und seit den 1970er Jahren durch Autobahnen erschlossen.
