About bhyve

The bhvye smart sprinkler timer app allows you to control or monitor your sprinklers from anywhere in the world with the convenience of your smart device.
Smart Watering
Knowing how long and how often to water your plants can be challenging. When set to smart watering mode, b-hyve takes the guesswork out of watering and utilizes Mother Nature, along with some really great technology, to determine the watering schedule for your yard. When set and left in smart watering mode, b-hyve can save users as much as 50% more water over a traditional controller.

Weather

When set in smart mode, b-hyve uses local weather data to determine how much water is evaporated and transpired through your plants each day to know when it needs to water. It also accounts for any rainfall that is in the forecast, shuts off the system for rain, then looks back to see how much actually fell. That’s smart! But all yards are not the same. B-hyve also takes into account things like soil type, plant type, sun/shade and slope to determine a watering schedule that takes the water to the roots and helps avoid runoff.

WeatherSense

If you want to be the one in control of the schedule, that’s okay too. With b-hyve you can set custom programs to water how you want while still taking advantage of the local weather data to override watering in case of a weather event. This will shut off your system during the rain and resume your program when the rain has passed. That’s smart!

Integrated Irrigation Audit Tool

The b-hyve app also integrates the award-winning irrigation audit tool right to your smart device. By performing a catch cup test on your sprinkler system, you will know exactly how much water is being applied rather than relying on estimated sprinkler head water use that other timers/apps use, which can be off by as much as 50%, saving you more water and money.

This is the app for the best-selling, WaterSense and SWAT certified Orbit B-hyve Smart Wifi Sprinkler Timer. This is also the companion app for homeowners to the Hydro-Rain B-hyve Pro Wifi Controller.

Initial concerns based off some of these reviews Decided to give it a chance and am happy I did! Not only did I save money with this controller but it met and exceeded my expectations! Install was simple, connecting to app was wasy, managing controller over app is easy, app hasn't crashed once on me. Very happy!

Set up was relatively easy. I wish they had an option to run set up again vs having to reset the entire time. The smart watering feature doesn't seem to work very well. The schedule shows it was to go on at noon, yet it is 10:30 and the system is smart watering. I also don't understand when I have all zones selected it does not show 1/2 the zones as being scheduled. I called customer service and they were little help. I will let it have a few days to normalize and see if it works better. Great concept, poor execution.

What's the point of utilizing smart water when it does whatever it wants? I have mine turned off but it shows that it will "smart water" my lawn the next day. Terrible app. Don't waste your time. Reply 3/16 - Actually it's disabled per the zone settings and the timer settings. I have the screen pics to prove it. I would love to send them via email if possible. Update 3/20 - solved my issue with the help of a customer rep. Shows how serious they take our feedback/reviews in order to make a better product.

I've been using the bhyve since July, setup was easy, and I've only had connection issues one time. Love it. Update 3/20/17 for some reason the app keeps showing that a program is scheduled for the next day even though all programs are currently disabled. Though it never actually runs.

After biggest update ever my timer is not smart anymore. It started to schedule only 2 zones of 5, and repeat those zones several hours. Please fix smart watering feature. New update didn't fix the issue. Timer still not scheduling correctly. Please fix it.

starting yesterday, the server is down for two days, I cannot pair my device EDIT(12/3): I almost returned the device but I confirm the issue is fixed not. I decide to give it a try. So far so good.

Smart watering does not work very well. Siol Moisture does not update very well. I had four days of rain. Soil moisture was 100 %. But software was showing as if we had no rain two jones went to 2% and 7% and three zones were showing 100%. Timer was watering the zones that showed 2% and 7% morning after heavy rains. It seems like software laches on to last watering and does not update moisture level when it rains. Only good feature is timer will not water when it is raining. I ended up disabling smart timer

The sprinkler controller turns watering programs on by itself. It had been raining for the last 3 month and every week the programs are on. Got a $500 ticket from water District for running sprinklers during the month that are prohibited. Complete garbage. Tech support just reset your controller and tell you to call them if problem persist.

Even though it is winter, I see in history that the lawn was watered 24 min on Dec 7th and again 24 min on Dec 8th. And then does not water for 2 weeks.

Updated my rental property. Now I don't have to worry about the tenants not watering the lawn. Smart sprinkler could water more though.

The app is telling me showing 404 degree on the weather, when it's nighttime here and raining outside.

Was easy to set up and is working well so far. I have found that the app will not remember the pictures assigned to each zone.

My run times for smart programs are always 0 minutes. It say it is watering but sprinklers are not on. I had to set manual times to water the lawn.

Update: App has had its ups and downs. Mostly server side issues that were resolved with the last update. The support team has been super responsive and aggressive at fixing issues. We have spoken through emails and worked on resolving bugs. The system waters well now and is quite accurate as to when the yard needs water. Rain delays are accurate and keep things from being a muddy mess. Love not having to watch my timer to be sure the yard is getting correct water.

The phone app seemed like it was working and then one day stopped. Set rain delay on app, but timer still ran. Tried stopping timer with app, but non responsive. UPDATE (11.7.16): The developer has since provided updates on 10.26.16 that seem to have resolved the previous issues. Hopefully the service works flawlessly moving forward. I've updated my score from 1 star to 3 stars.

Easy setup and clean interface. Major issue with smart watering according to the calendar though. It just shows the same 2 zones doubled up running over and over again, the other 3 zones don't show up on the schedule at all..... Please fix!!

Initial issues were quickly resolved. Has worked great for months, allowing me to manage my timer from my smartphone. Now they just need to add some actual smart features and I will give it 5 stars. App needs more notification control, such as notifying when the timer is about to start watering and integrations with other apps (IFTTT, SmartThings, etc)

Wow. How impressive. ORBIT seems to have stepped up the game. Great job! The app worked great even before the update. But now with the added features it looks even more attractive. Adding one star to the review. Still waiting for the ability to switch temperature between ℉ and ℃ though.

Works perfectly.

K70%

Works great as a timer and remote control however the App falls very short regarding how it integrates with smart watering and multiple devices. The app is not capable of running more than on Bhyve device. Orbit requires you to setup separate account for each device. This is a big issue when trying to view, edit or control a system greater than 12 zones. When smart watering is enabled for a zone the timed schedule for that zone is not disabled causing over watering to occur. Can't wait for update.

Have had this unit installed for nearly 6 mos. Most issues preventing reliable use have been resolved. Phone app and hardware seems solid after recent update. Now it seems most work will be done on the server. I would like better understanding of how to algorithms work so I don't try to second guess what it is doing. However now that summer is over there's less risk of sudden drought. Very pleased with the progress.

Weather reading is always wrong and smart watering is too sensitive. It'd be nice to not only be able to control chance of rain percentages, but also the weather service. I use "Weather Underground" because it actually works. It would be nice to have an option menu to choose between reporting services also.

App and unit are fantastic! I was a little skeptical at first but have had absolutely ZERO issues like some others. Biggest thing I found was to be patient with it during initial setup and you should have no problems whatsoever.

No problems here. My lawns have never looked better and i've had zero issues with this app. Also, ive installed the app on several different Android devices. Get it! Got it! Good!

Works like a charm! I have noticed several people who are complaining but it's just because they don't understand how their system works. I also like the fact that this company updates their app. Keep up the good work.

A lot of bugs. For example, it constantly would turn the program off after i turned it on. No reason. I finally deleted the program, turned off smart watering then re added the entire program. Smart water options are useless. All I want is for me to pick the times and it to adjust based on weather. Instead it tries to figure out how to water my lawn by me providing a few options like sprinkler type and sprinkler count. Cmon obviously it will never get this right and it didnt. I will say the app ui is nice.

I can't get the timer to connect to my network and this app does not provide any intuitive ways to diagnose the problem. Just gets stuck. Talked to Support and they advised me to return the unit and get a new one, which I did... The New unit does the exact same thing and will not connect to my 2.4G Network.. So Frustrating ...

A70%

It's a hit & miss. Work's from app 70% of the time. But not when I need it. The app need's to tell us if it's connected to timer.

Read the other reviews, my issues are the same: it misses waterings, smart watering is sketchy, etc. Thanks to this controller my once green lawn is now struggling. I don't trust it. Contacted support over a week ago with no response. Stay away if you want a green lawn.

When updating settings, it fails to update about every third zone. Smart watering only shows amount watered on one of 9 zones. Programmed with correct info. Waters two days in a row, and then skips 3 days. Rain delay triggered, when there was no precipitation. And on and on. I purchased this and balanced my heads, and recorded precipitation rates, hoping that the smart watering would pay for the timer. Please fix this app. Great concept, poorly executed. Should allow me to choose closest weather station.

Hands down the best value/features on the market. They need to clean up a few app things but great start. Should sell millions of these things.

Orbit should be ashamed of themselves. Advertising as wifi accessible is a joke. In order to pair with timer you have to turn off timer and press reset. Then it wouldn't pair with my home wifi network. Shut program off and retry, app wouldn't see the timer wifi despite timer wifi strength is at full bar. I @m standing next to timer. Obviously, the app doesn't work at all. The rebate website that promised $80 rebate is down. Might have to return this piece of expensive junk.

Disappointed that B-Hyve doesn't work on Galaxy S7 phone. Despite numerous tries and resets it doesn't get past pairing and network connection. The phone screen doesn't display any control buttons. Both units are going back to the store and my expectations of Orbit stay very low.
