Lantern: A Campfire Client for Android
Plus, friendly support! <3
This is not a bad companion app for campfire. The reason I purchased it was for the sound notifications both for the room and for the personal notification so that I would know that my attention was needed. While sitting at the computer with the phone on the desk, I have noticed that sometimes there is a long delay with both the messages and the sounds being delivered to the phone several minutes later than what was happening real time in campfire.. Sometimes the sounds don't come at all. It is better than the last app I had on my phone but the features I really wanted don't work as I had hoped. It would be nice to have those features fixed and to have a feature added that would allow the assignment of color to users for easier identification of who is talking. For example, having the ability to assign the boss a color so his posts stand out.

I've been using this app for months and really like it. I can see my chats and rooms, chatting works just fine, and it has settings, which Campfire itself is sorely lacking. I actually came to view this on the Play store today to see if they had a Mac version I could use on my computer because Lantern is so much better than just plain Campfire.
This app has everything I need to Campfire with my team.
Works well on both my phone and tablet. Very Feature rich and a great looking UI. I use this app everyday to stay in the loop with what's happening at work.
Great!
Kudos to One Mighty Roar for this great app. Long overdue! Staying connected with my team back home while working from the road just got a whole lot easier!
5-star for the developer who was very responsive to address the crash bugs I encountered. However notification doesn't work reliably. It seems to work at first but if I let the app there in the background for a few hours then notifications stop coming. That kind of defeats the reason why I want to run a Campfire client on my phone. Therefore only 3 stars for the app.
Devs added support for multiple accounts. This is a great app.
I would love to see the ability to disable or hide the left chat room pane on tablets so that you can essentially maximize the chat window so that it's really the only thing that displays. And obviously an option to bring back the chatroom pane at anytime would be excellent
Awesome campfire app...far better than the alternatives.
Check out after hours mode in the settings. Assuming you're at your desk most of the day, the app will only bug you during the evening!
Version 2 is incredible. Swipeable card-style room list? Expanded Notification support? Yup! The new features are exactly what this already stellar app needed. And to top it all off, the app performs better than ever and uses far less battery!
Best Campfire app
The app is good, but it keeps crashing when my connection goes down.
this app is broken. still looking for one that works.
Just upgrade my gear to a Nexus 7 it still works nice but it only shows in landscape mode, please enable portrait mode on tablets Was running on 2.3.4 now upgraded to 4.0.1 and it works so well such a good buy.
Really like the multiple accounts support
And I don't just mean Campfire Android apps either. This easily beats app clients I've tried on the desktop too. Fantastic job, guys.
Only campfire app I've found worth installing. Worth the 2 bucks.
This is the most disappointing app purchase I've ever made. This thing will *occasionally* connect, as in once every few days, and send me a few hundred alerts. This is despite the fact that I turned off notifications. I haven't been able to bring myself to uninstall because I *paid* for this app and I kept holding on to the faint glimmer of hope that the developer would fix it. That was my mistake. I have made my own campfire client before. It's not rocket science, but clearly it's beyond this company.
Can't keep a connection when my device roams from WiFi to 4g, which is one of the first things a mobile app should accommodate for. Instead, connection gets dropped, and won't reconnect unless force closed and restarted
I've tried a couple of clients, but none of them worked nearly as well as this one. There could be a few improvements (like not having to re-fetch the chat history every time when switching rooms), but overall very good UX and smooth UI. A few problems: * I often get notifications saying "0 new messages in ", while in fact there were multiple messages. * It would be nice to have an option to lose the "# people chatting" header line. It takes up valuable screen real estate, and it is also redundant on tablets. * Posting an image (via the either of the intents) sometimes fails silently. Other than that, this is a nice app.
Unicode support is not great (Maybe just the font choice?) but good. The app *needs* to remember username and account subdomain. Very frustrating to type those in every time. I'd prefer to have it remember password as well.
This app had not worked for me since I updated my S3 to JB. I contacted the developer but did not hear from him for a couple of months. When the developer did contact me, he worked through to figure out that my incorrect log in info was causing a crash that he has now fixed. App works well now.
Uses a ton of background data with seemingly no way to turn it off. Leaving a room does not turn off notifications. Signing out causes the app to crash ever time you try to launch it again later If you want an app that will keep you logged in all the time, this will do the trick. However if you want an app that will let you check in periodically, lantern is extremely frustrating
The interface and design is really nice, and minimal. My only complaint is that I'd like to see the ability to save account info so it's easier to log in and out.
If you use Campfire and need mobile access, it does the trick just fine.
Plus, friendly support!
Switched from 'campyre' and noticed a huge improvement in battery life. This app also uses a lot less data than campyre for whatever reason (5mb a day compared to 300mb a day for me). Interface is a lot nicer too. There is one problem when sending multiple lines of text quickly that I emailed the developer about and he seemed eager to fix it. I recommend this app and I hope it continues to be maintained.
Image uploads, sounds, and most importantly notifications!! Better than the real thing!
My only issue is that I can't seem to play sounds. Otherwise, it's the best campfire client I've used.
I'm very impressed! Elegant and attractive user interface.
The most recent upgrade had some serious regressions but they were addressed quickly by the developers. While the app still remains a bit quirky at times, it seems to be under development and hopefully stabilizing in the coming weeks. Definitely a superior client to Bonfire or Campyre.
I use Campfire everyday for work. My commute takes 30-45 minutes on the subway above and below ground. The new version of Lantern handles the loss of service beautifully and passes the Green Line Test. Best Campfire app on the market, hands down.
Easily the best Campfire client on Android. Very fast, polished, Holo designs and great settings for notifications.
I picked this up mostly because the interface puts the other available Campfire clients to shame. However, it does have its share of quirks. None of this makes me regret my purchase, but I would like to see the following: * Scrolling to the bottom of the current chat is glitchy, and will jump back up several lines. Would love to see this fixed. * I wish there were a clearer separation between the chat input and the conversation. * The chat input looks a bit off when the input text spans multiple lines. More as I use it more, but so far it's fantastic.
I love it for the most part due to it fitting most of my needs of the campfire client. However, the constant closing down due to the inactivity timer inherent in the app makes it a pain to use. You can't keep it up in the background for extended lengths of time. By the time that I check an email, respond, and try to go back to the app - it needs to reload and re-enter the room. It's just not good under most circumstances for real use. I like it but I am not going to sit in the app forever to keep it running to make sure the notifications/chat is up to date. Please figure out a way to alleviate this.
