BaconReader Premium for Reddit for Android
Edit 18-12-17 Awful. Littered with bugs and a developer who ignores users. Avoid at all costs. Vreddit links don't open. Imgur links rarely open. Gfycat doesn't load half the time. Twitter links are non existant and when you post about it in their subreddit they act like a female dog and remove it. Avoid Avoid Avoid! But after the recent updates I have found many pages not loading including simple images, Web pages or even links to YouTube videos! Shocking really and unfortunately happening all too often now.
I've owned the paid version of Baconreader for awhile now. It's worth the small amount paid to not have ads and supporting the developers. If you ever see a Reddit thread talking about best mobile apps Baconreader always makes an appearance if not the top suggested. Great app.
Baconreader may not be the prettiest or easiest app to learn but once you learn this app it is so good. Very customizable, this app really shines when you dive into the settings and make it work for you. I've been using this app for nearly 4 years and I can't see myself using anything else.
Have to drop the rating to 4 stars for the time being, however, as v.redd.it files play the video but don't actually play any sound in app. Not sure if this is just something I'm doing wrong, but it's frustrating to need to open the browser or a separate app to hear sound on these media files. Other than that, BaconReader has been my go to for reddit and it provides a very simple, efficient experience. Keep up the good stuff! Hoping to see a fix for those v.redd.it files.
Best Reddit app on the store currently. Just wish imgur and Reddit would quit sabotaging loading times for those of us who don't use the official apps. Imgur makes the image low res on mobile unless viewed in the official app, and v/i.redd.it links take a while to load unless you use the official Reddit app.
I've dropped my 5 star rating to a 3 star one, because when I click on posts, the title is no longer visible. Makes it especially difficult to know what the post is meant to be if you can only view the title outside of the comments link.
Too many errors makes it completely unusable now. Opening webpages in baconreader will result in error and the page is unviewable about 90% of the time. Gfycat doesn't work for me suddenly. V.reddit support is not there. Time to move on...
Edit: I can admit when I'm an idiot. This is a great app. Previously mentioned issue was me being stupid. Mystery up and down votes on the associated account with this app.
For the love of good bring back the ability to read thread titles if you are in the thread. It's incredibly frustrating not being able to. It's ruined my enjoyment of an otherwise great app.
Can you make a feature to not scroll back to the top when you re-open the app? Sometimes I am really far down and accidentally close the app and then it re-opens at the top réeeeeeeee
2018 EDIT: I have been experiencing issues with the in-app browser since December and finally posted about it on the app's official subreddit the other day. Most links won't load in the app's browser but load instantly in Chrome. Gifs, v.reddit, links to news sites, imgur albums... it's gotten to the point where 75% of external links do not work for me anymore. No response yet. This might be what gets me to switch to another browsing app if it is not addressed soon. I will switch my rating back to 5 stars when it's fixed. Original review from a couple years ago: This is my favorite app to browse Reddit on, but with the latest update, "Top Posts - All" no longer works. I browse the top posts when I'm checking out a new subreddit, but recently, it just brings me a list of What's Hot for the current week, if that makes any sense. Incredibly frustrating. Will rerate with 5 stars when this is fixed. EDIT: Fixed, thank you!
App has somehow gotten worse. I've used the app for a long long time and now Reddit based videos and images take ages to load if they even load at all. Thinking about switching apps because it's getting old to deal with. Edit: how come other apps can handle it with ease then? Sync for example in a side by side comparison is in secs loading and playing the links, BR is just an Orange loading symbol. If I held my breath I would die. And this has been going on for quite awhile.
Recent update broke the gfy loading within the app. --Suggestion: have a toggle for the NSFW red icons to be toggled from red to black/grey. This will make browsing in public less obvious that I have a link that is NSFW. Hope that makes sense.
By far the best reddit mobile app. Those other apps with trendy views of articles and posts are annoying af. This one is to the point. Simple. And works. Don't look anywhere else.
Loved the free version and I was tired of ads. Best Reddit app of them all. Takes even less mobile data than the mobile Reddit site, which is great for someone like me on a tight data budget.
I've used BaconReader for a couple of years. Went ad free a few weeks ago and it started crashing. Uninstalled and paid 1.99 again for premium and it crashes more frequently. It crashes when reading comments, following outside/imgur/vid links and scrolling through my sub list. Love this app but this is maddening
My favourite app ever. The support as always is fantastic. Messaged them about a problem I was having and it was resolved within 24h. Can't recommend this app enough for the avid Reddit user.
I love the app. But v.redd.it is bad on its own, but crashes my app whenever I click on one.
Still great, with many bugfixes and new features in the last year. It's getting to the point where I prefer redditing in BaconReader versus on my laptop browser.
This has been crashing lately on my Pixel XL on Nougat and Oreo. 10/24/17-No longer crashes. CANT COPY FROM POSTS! Downgraded.
Great app but most recent update removed the post titles when looking at links. Now I can't swipe through links because I don't know what I'm looking at half of the time. Please fix for 5 stars!
I keep receiving HTTP: 400 Bad Request whenever I try to load a page.
Thank you for that update! V.reddit links work great now! And the red text for YouTube links is brilliant! Little changes like that are what make baconreader my go to reddit app!
After more than a year of ignoring me I'm giving you one star. Whenever I leave a comment tread open for a few hours and then come back to it, it refreshes to a new one that has taken its place on the front page. It's a pain to find that thread again. Fix it please, I've paid for this app and been patient long enough.
Dropping a star. In addition to the crashes that happen while opening a fair percentage of links, the app is getting worse. The 'continue this thread' link in comments now opens the entire post in a new window. Then you have to find the thread you were looking at, which is nearly impossible sometimes - and THEN you have to CLICK THE LINK AGAIN. At which point the page will open in another window with the continuation of the thread. Really?
I started using the free version of BaconReader and loved it so much that I had to buy it. I've used other Reddit apps but this one is my favorite. Especially like the dark mode because it is easier for me to read and it seems to save battery as well. Would give it more stars if I could.
This app is starting to show its age a bit. V.redd.it links load instantly in chrome or the official app, but this one takes a full minute to sort itself out before it will open them.
Been using Bacon for 3-4 years, just an amazing app. Better than anything out there. Bugs fixed. Back to five stars
Great job with the recent update! Everything that I was having issues with were fixed! Thanks Onelouder!
Lately when using Reddit on my Pixel 2 XL it's been a battery hog. Not many features compared to other apps. Very displeased will be using a different Reddit client.
I've tried a few other Reddit apps, and while they were good, I always stick with Baconreader because it is the only app with all the controls you need. This is the only app that has nearly the same level of control as the desktop RES Reddit standard.
Constantly crashes while loading content (about every 5-10 min). Multiple bug reports submitted over the course of months, no development or fixes. Was a mistake to pay money for it.
Just wondering if there will be an update regarding playing v.redd.it links in the app? They always take forever to load, and then don't end up playing.
Recently now my music player stops when I look at a gif. Is a fix coming for this on s5. Amazing app though
I've used the paid version of this app since I started using reddit, until recently it hasn't functioned quite like it does anymore. Having issues with loading links and thumbnails, also loading the next page for whatever subreddit I'm browsing isn't working currentlt. I don't want to leave my review at one star, hopefully the developers are on it.
Still has an ongoing issue with not being able to open certain image links in app. Has been an issue for years now.
Images saved through Baconreader are unable to be read. Twitter links only load 25% of the time. V.reddit links do not load at all. Imgur links only load after clicking and backing out 3-4 times. These glitches are extremely common and have been ignored on the official subreddit for over half a year at this point. I'll change my review if it ever gets fixed but I'm not using this app until then.
Best reddit app available by a landslide, but maybe give us a way to disable the red links for those who dislike them?
The only way to improve on this app would be to have it get me a root beer when I'm thirsty.

Edit: Rating it 1* now. The crashes continue. The app is basically useless. Time to go look for a new app, one that works. I love BaconReader and have been using it for many years now, but the past month nor so.. The app has stated to crash. A whole lot. Tap a link. Crash. Tap a hyperlink. Crash. Open the linked article. Crash. It's getting irritating at this point.
