Music Theory Helper for Android
This app is simple and well made. However, there are others that are more interactive than this one. Of course, it might be what one is looking for precisely. But, this apps only functions for non beginner musicians are a pitch pipe and a cord builder. If you are looking for that, this if the app for you; if you are looking for basic information on note values and symbols, great this app is spectacular. Although, it is not for more experienced musicians who don't need cord builder it is a fine app.
While it is helpful with chords, theory and covers the classical scales. The ability to have a scale builder feature would be helpful instead of guessing by the number of semitones. It would also be nice to have the blues scales, I recognise that they are similar to the minor pentatonics but it would be nice. The chord builder also lacks the feature of being able to add the 9, 11 or 13th to a 7th chord. The app is pretty good otherwise
Finally a legit and free app with almost comprehensive music theory!
the exercises rock! I'm taking an ear training class in college, and the exercises on this app have been invaluable in develpoing listening skills. If you plan on getting serious with music, especially if you want to join a choir, i would highly recomend getting this app and practising using the exercises every day. My only complaint is that some of the leaderboards won't display my score; its frusterating to get a high score and then not have it recognized. I would also appreciate an unlimited time mode.
During the exercises the chord/interval for the next question starts playing the moment you press the button to answer the first question, which is confusing. I would very strongly suggest waiting a second, even less, before the next question starts so your brain has time to realise that they are separate. Other than that: fantastic app, thank you.
The app itself is done really well but if you know nothing about music then you'll download this and still know nothing about music. It's a lot of "this is X" but no actual definition as to why or how things relate.
Downloaded Music Theory app 7/4/'16 and found it is a great starter app for new music students! One request - In the "Read" Pitches/Intervals exercise, could you add audio to reinforce the sound of the note shown on the staff when you press the key on the piano (modern/old style)? I'm looking forward to how this app will grow by adding more music symbols in that segment. To the developer, cudos on large variety of areas to explore and to practice with ear training exercises - having levels of difficulty is a plus! One glitch is in Settings when I toggle between Old and New Piano settings... some times it would not change from one to the other when 1st chosen. THANK YOU for this app!
Why no Alto Clef exercises?! I was so amped to see everything work so well and then saw that I can't use this for my viola students. Feels bad man...
For those musician who wants to learn something in music try I recommend this app, give it a try. 1 thing I would like to add is that try inputing definition what is circle of fifth what does it do etc.
It's ok, but when I play the "test intervals" the 1st interval doesn't play, leaving me to have to guess what it is without hearing it. Not sure If it's a bug, or if it's just me though...
Its cool, there were some things on i didn't know, but that's it, the basics of Music Theory. When i downloaded the app i thought there would be a alot more info on Music Theory( i know some that isn't on there). Cool app, hope more is added.
I'd just like to say I wasn't sure what music theory was until I looked at the pictures on the app, then I realized... You learn this in band, I already have an understanding of pretty much most of this stuff and I haven't even looked at the app at all
I love how it doesn't ask for any special permissions, It has every really clearly lain out, and I am really learning alot using it. Excellent resource for building chords. Now I can add more depth to my music.
This is actually the best app for music theory and solfegio, I love it. It has all the things a musician needs! Thanks to whoever made it!!!
I find it hard to read with all the music jargon. Its a great app though.
Very useful and I like it. Only flaw - it won't let you play chords or intervals twice without playing something else in between.
This is a great app for beginners, but it lacks some chords and scales. I'd really like to see more jazz-chords (e.g. half-dim. and maj7#11) and the jazz-scales (dorian, phrygian,etc.).
By far the best app that has improved my knowledge of music. You could improve by having people translate lines/pieces instead of just single notes.
I would probably still use it. But it can get annoying to wait so long in between set. I'm glad this app is free, it was suck if I paid for it.
This is absolutely everything that I needed in just one super convenient app. I showed the Internet all the time car information like this. So beautiful. As a self taught student of music this is going to be insanely helpful
Love the learning, but it could use a few things. Like a glossary of terms and stuff for beginners
I'm enjoying using this to practising hearing and reading notes. The developer also implemented a gesture request pretty soon after I asked =D
Nice music app but not without bugs. Unable to play the same note twice on my onyx phone.
It is very useful for me. Exercises are very interesting. The only minor improvement: I'd like to have an _option_ to switch on sound in exercises to hear notes I recognize correctly. Thank you very much for this app!
This app is very useful for my music gcse. It is easy to understand and teaches you everything you need to know. Eg- note reading, chords, major and minor scales etc. So grateful for this app. I love it
I recommend this app for those that don't only want to play music but to understand the rudiments of music......5*
It's good for beginners . Octave, Scale. And all symptom .so far so good
Two minor suggestions : add cleff to circle of fiths display and allow chords in the chord builder to be sounded out.
The user interface is amazing and user friendly.. Impressed within few minutes of use.. A very good app to learn music (thumbs up) well done developers team
Needs a few minor additions. Would like to have the option of a guitar and bass fingerboard during the sight reading games. This would allow us non piano playing musicians the ability to learn the notes on the sheet music and then varry it over to their own bass or guitar learning. Also. More exercises to play on scales like modes to help out with our learn there. Many thanks for the great app you designed. 5stars. The few changes above would make unbeatable. Please look into these changes. Thanks in advance.
This app is great with learning and remembering note value and how you are suppose to play when you read your music. I haven't tried the other options yet, I missed out on counting beats early ( didn't think it was important) boy was I wrong!!!. Thank God for simple apps like this one, to help you get back on track. Thank you for adding sound that, equals the note value ...genius idea!! Works well on LG V10
Its really helpful in cracking the musical theory in many ways.
This app is a good helper in learning and understanding music.
This app is so helpful, especially since I am a musician who can't read music...
Not sure why people are saying this is such a good music theory app ...for absolute beginners it'll work like...beginners who have never even touched an instrument in their entire lives. Boring, if you've played any instrument at all for longer then 4 hours and know .00012% about anything music related... this app isn't for you.
I used this for mostly for interval and dictation quizzing, but it hasn't bee working since the last update. Please fix!
Love the skill levels on the exercises which ramp up very nicely. Great material design too!
Can't play sample audio twice. To play a sample you must select a different sample (i.e. a different chord) and then back to the desired sample. The problem is worse on interval samples when, for example you try to play the dim5 after aug4. Pretty good for very basic music theory reference but may have a lot more content.
It's such an amazing help. It gives one all of their music theory information in a format that is easy to access and navigate. Overall an awesome app for those that need help with their music theory!

The listening exercises lack responsiveness (and instructions) which makes them unplayable for me. Also, the piano feature could use a tune up to improve playability. Sorry to start my rating off with criticisms. The app is fantastic for looking up theory. I would like to see more details on the scales and chords sections if possible rather than the "ear training" exercises. There are lots of apps for that but this app is good at showing the theory.
