About nxlog

The nxlog tool is a universal log collector and forwarder. It can act as a syslog server and collect logs from the network over UDP, TCP or TLS/SSL. It can read logs from files, the kernel log and the android device logs which can be forwarded over the network using UDP, TCP or TLS/SSL and redirected into files. nxlog supports the BSD and IETF syslog standards (RFC 3164 and RFC 5424) but it is possible to use a custom format. In addition, it has powerful filtering capabilities which lets you forward only a subset of the logs.

Unlike other android log forwarder tools, nxlog reads the android log devices directly instead of parsing the logcat command's output. It can use TCP and SSL for reliability and security in addition to the lossy UDP protocol.

nxlog does not require root access. Reading the kernel logs is also possible, but you will need root access for this.

Doesn't seem to work without root. I also get the PIE executable error.

Let me know when this is fixed and I'll revise my review.

I don't see any kernel log entries... because... app don't ask for root permissions if I set im_kernel module... throw errors "file not found" only...

Config is arcane. Android module doesnt capture my apps log, an has no source and near zero documentation.

The app runs on my Android 4.x tablet. I was able to get it to both forward local logs to my private syslogd, and was able to re-write the logs so they came it in at a specific syslog "facility" (which makes filtering them easier on the server). The UI is ... flexible. Its basically a text editor showing the nxlog config file. The default file is easy enough to tweak, but if you want to do anything more, you'll need to go read the manual and edit the file just like you would have had to in 1991.

Other than making my brain reading the docs so I can use advanced features. Its the ultimate tool so far to get android logs into logstash/splunk/and other futuristic log mgmt tools
