About Know your DAS

This free health app from the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) is designed to help you stay one step ahead of your rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Monitor and track aspects of your RA using the Disease Activity Score, or DAS28 (so called because it assesses 28 joints in the body). DAS28 is a measure of how well your RA is being controlled and how well you’re responding to treatment.

The assessment is quick and easy to complete and the ‘Know your DAS’ app carries out the mathematical calculation needed to produce your DAS28.

The information is stored on your device only and your progress can be shared with your healthcare professional (HCP) over time so that together, you and your HCP can build the best possible picture of your RA and decide whether any changes in treatment are needed to help improve the management of your disease.

The app features include:

* DAS28 assessment calculator
* Health diary
* Video guide
* ‘Capture your own joint’ camera feature
* Summary of results reporting tool
* Email results to your HCP functionality
* Further information on DAS28
* Medicine reminders
* Register and save your data to the cloud
* Sync data across multiple devices

This app has been developed with support and funding provided by Roche Products Limited and Chugai Pharma UK Ltd to help people with RA more easily track and manage their disease to enable better outcomes.

Really bad for tracking medication. Notifications do not tell you what they are reminding you about. Tapping a notification is supposed to take you to yes/no screen, but this often fails to appear so you miss recording it, with no chance to try again. This always happens if the app is already running, so useless for two medicines at the same time. Maximum stock of doses is 50 - one of my drugs is dispensed in packs of 60.

The app is a great idea in principle but lacks flexibility & needs some bug fixes. Having set up the medications with a reminder on one of them, I subsequently cancelled the reminder function, but am still receiving the reminders twice a day. There seems no option to log a medication that has been taken ad hoc or to note the time that a medication was taken unless logged by the time a reminder was acknowledged. I also think it is worth noting supplements (eg glucisamine, rosehip, tumeric) with dosages. Indeed the whole medication section has very little functionality. There is scope for adding an entire new section for 'therapies' (physio, hydro, acupuncture, reflexology), & to produce graphical representations of medication usage &/ or therapies linked with symptoms. I would prefer the wellness scales on the diary section to be 1-10 rather than 1-5 as it allows more flexibility & accuracy with the variable nature of symptoms. And having included pain, stiffness, tenderness, swelling, & redness as potential symptoms why not include heat? Or have the option to add customised symptoms? And when I chose to exit the app it freezes, every time. It just will not shut down. Some tweaks & improvements needed for sure... think about what is useful data to be able to reflect on & learn from to improve management of the condition, then it will be a good app.

This is a great app, very useful in tracking my disease activity. I have a couple of observations though - 1) I seem to always exit the app when I back out from the diary section when I only want to go back to the home screen. 2) I added some photos to the diary last month and have just tried to open them but all I can see if the tinny little thumbnail images

I suffer a lot in my ankles and toes,and so why stop at knees for the assessment. The addition of these joints would make it more useful.

I suffer from RA and can now use my blood tests to calculate my Das score and keep diary of any pain. Very good.
