Official Great Smoky Mountains for Android
Downloaded the app but will not open.
Useless...
Only 2 hiking trails listed... there are WAY more trails than the 2 listed, not very useful
No maps. Would be a useful app if there were maps! I found a different app that does.
I had hoped that the GSMA would put out something other than an app for windshield tourists. Guess I'll stick with my trail map.
When I go to Tennessee, I'm all about the hikes. There are only two on the app. I saw someone else say the same on a review from 1 year ago, but I figured by now it would have been updated. It's so basic and I didn't find out anything about The Smokies that I didn't already know.
Unless you plan on never leaving your car, pretty much useless. Only two hikes listed.
It wouldn't down load
This has great potential. I would even pay $3-$4 if it was loaded with trails.
Awesome App

Worthless
This app is awesome
Crashes all the time. Could never get it running. Removing.
Only two hikes listed? Come on!
Nowhere near as complete as it could be, but don't let that stop you from visiting the park.
Favorites don't work. Map is virtually useless
Works great and has lots of good information about the area and businesses that support Great Smoky Mountains National Park. If you are planning on visiting the park this a great app!
I can't get it to install on a Galaxy SIII running 4.1.2. Download is ok but hangs on install.
Some good info but they left out an important feature,,a park map.
I loaded it onto my Samsung Tab 2 and it seemed to work fine. It has a lot of useful information about services and features in the park. I wish it didn't force you into vertical mode.
There is something wrong with this app- it does not work. I get this message every time i click on it. I just uninstalled and restalled it thinking that might be the problem but still get this consistent error message "unfortunately, Smokies Free has stoped. reporting the issue has not resolved it. Bad app, great park!
I used this app on iphone and it was pretty helpful. Lots of good info and the gps on offline maps was nice. I would rate 4 or 5 stars for that version. But on my Samsung S3 it is absolutely useless. I crashes just after starting. The developers really need to get their act together. Per the other reviews I am not the only one having problems with it and its making the park service look bad.
With a few days of looking in this app and then being on site.... The info provided is fair for general coverage. Park services and rules are complete. Some regular attractions are generally described but might use more detail. Nice integration to your phone GPS. Nice bookmark scheme to quickly get back to pages of interest. The most obvious things I see lacking are detailed pointers/pages for trails, waterfalls, cascades, and possible flowers locations (photographic locations). The app is a very good start for free but needs much more detail. Try the Chimani app (pay) for the missing detail.
Downloaded the app but will not open.
Does not work on HTC EVO 4g LTE.
Will not work anymore. When i open it crashes
It crashes every time I launched it, never got it to work
Pretty close to useless unless you just stay in your car... uninstalled.
First off--this is more of a general map, if you want something like dedicated hiking maps Chimani's app or an app with backcountry maps (like Gaia GPS or Backcountry GPS Trails or the Trimble Outdoors apps) may be more your speed. That said--for what this app is, it isn't bad; and as for what this app is, it's basically an enhanced version of the guides to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park published by the Great Smokies Mountain Association. Convenient and current lists of POIs in the park, safety info, and so on. The one thing I WOULD like to see is perhaps a "Pro" version of the Android app with the features of its sister iPhone "Pro" version--the "pro" iPhone version contains the more commonly used self-guided trails and Quiet Walkways as well as the notable auto tours of the area. (Among other things, it'd be a great way to support the park--this IS the official GSMA app). One caveat as well--this does seem to use Google Maps for its mapping solution, but may be using cached maps. To be safe, I'd probably cache maps before going into parts of the park where cell coverage is iffy, but fortunately Google Maps has that capacity. All in all, not bad for what it is.
900 miles of trails in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and not even hiking trails on the to do list! Really? The most hiked park in the US
App will not work on my Xoom... force closes....
Heading to this area for an upcoming vacation... The info in this app is cleaner and easier to access than the print brochures and documents provided by the National Park. I haven't used it in the field yet, but so far, a great first impression. Only con I see is that it is quite large... I'll probably uninstall after our vacation.
Tried 2 xto install this app with no success. Any one out there ??? Had it installed once before and nothing.
Force closes on the nexus 7 upon opening
Installed on Galaxy S2, but it will not open. Uninstalled.
Not much there.
