TouchDown for Smartphones for Android
Used this for years and has been great until Symantec took over! Crashes lots, calendar does not sync correctly and the notes will not sync at all now, which is one of the main features I originally bought it for. Have a look at alternatives as I feel like my money has been stolen from me now. I wouldn't use this now, even if it was free. Outlook for android now works better than this does which says a lot. I'm going to try an alternative. Nine is getting some good reviews.
I have used Touchdown for years now and love it. However, I was on build 9.0.00407 and it worked awesome but a couple of days ago I got build 9.0.00412 (auto download and install)! However, 412 no longer gives me calendar notifications / reminders. Every other notification works great, email, etc... just not calendar reminders. It syncs perfectly with outlook for my company I can see the appointment just no visual or audible sound (even though it pops up on my work computer) when time comes. Also, I can create an appointment on the Touchdown app and it doesn't even give me a reminder notification! I even uninstalled 412 this morning and reinstalled it from Google Play and it still doesn't give me reminders. I think there is an issue with calendar reminders in build 412.
The email now looks like the crappy mobile software that the rest of the world develops these days. Complete with a stupid hamburger button and oversized headers. They force it down your throat like security companies do. No legacy screen selections. This has rendered my phone useless for email. Add the option for the old UI, and ill go back to 5 stars.
After using this for two years, finally we have got a nice looking exchange client with easy to use interface. Now sending emails from single page without selecting multiple box makes me Happy. Only one request, please allow TD to sync the Callender and Tasks with default Callender. Please fix image attachment handling, email viewer selecting wrong image for wrong emails, if there are two email came with image on body simultaneously.
Used TD for years and was very satisfied, but over the last few months new email compositions would not get sent. They appeared to work correctly and send but instead were just disappearing into the ethos. Tried Outlook but it has font scaling issues. Have switched to Nine which just works.
So I loved Touchdown before Symantec bought them. But ever since their update that rebranded it , I've had it start crashing constantly. My other admin has the same issue. The UI change is a pain to navigate as well. It's not as usable as it used to be.
Unbelievable...I've been using this app for a very long time now and I can't believe that the SEARCH feature is still total junk! Come on Symantec...I get that Nitrodesk may not have had the resources to fix this but you do! Fix this issue please. Every SINGLE time I search for an email the app hangs WAY to long and crashes! Please fix this issue.
poor user experience. with blackberry gone, this app (often forced by central IT department) is the best argument to switch to Apple. directory search is slow, finding a mail can't interrupted (so you wait half a minute while the mail you're looking for is behind a waiting screen) and even canceling a mail throws a 'please wait' box. please fire a few of your marketing staff and hire some UI designers. not to change the look, but to make the app useable again.
app works reasonably well. It has lots of features. Sometimes sync just stops working. Can be fixed with reinstall. After the latest reinstall, it wenr into demomode. What do i install/buy to get it out of demo mode ? About box seems to have a blind link into the appstore.
Not always but probably 20% of the time my emails are late to my phone and update when I open the app. I have push and 1 min sync. Didn't happen on my Nexus 6.. very annoying and can't rely on the app.
Search queries server every time even when desired email is cached on device, which takes forever. No way to cancel server search. Crashes at least weekly. After crash, app won't show more than blank screen until phone restarts. Cannot set free/busy status for calendar events.
So I just upgraded to a Samsung galaxy s7 edge. I just got touchdown installed. I have used it on a previous phone just fine. The key app is installed but it won't accept any email account I put in there. I have removed and reinstalled the application and still the same thing. It finishes the wizard and takes me back to configuring a new account. Not happy! $20 wasted.
Downloaded and purchased when it first came out. Back then not many other options. Now there are fancier options that work well and I have tried most of them. Eventually these new ones either lose sync, has sync errors or want more money for added features. I reinstalled it with the purchase key and realized that the changes over the years were actually eye pleasing and useful. I like that the calendar did contacts is within the app. Great job keeping up with others.
If you are a corporate goon like myself, and you use Exchange for your email system, this client cannot be beat. People are amazed when my phone intelligently speaks notifications to me about important incoming emails and appointments. Emails are sorted and color-coded to my personal specifications. Customized! I've spent the money and tried ALL of the Play Store's email clients. Touchdown is the only "serious" choice. If you're looking for desktop power on your mobile device, treat yourself to this one.
It looks prettier and in general email is good. But triage of emails is important for a smart phone so it is a step backward that to red-flag an email now takes three clicks where it used to take one. This is why I stopped using TouchDown on ipad. Please can we have a dedicated flag button on each email instead of a pull down menu. The Calendar and task components are also far short of the competition and should be upgraded.
This is a great app that safeguards your company's data without holding the whole phone hostage. The corporate data is kept safe and separate from my personal stuff. UPDATE: They listened! The interface looks great now! OLD: The downside is that it is UUUUUUGLY! Looks like an escapee from the 90's. Please give it a Material Design makeover.
General UI and integration are good. One feature I do not like is the UNREAD default opening screen which includes all the 'JUNK' emails, and am getting JUNK email notifications. Would prefer direct access to INBOX which excludes JUNK. Seems no setting to change this? - long time paid user. OUTLOOK app for emails seems better.

Seems like a good product on the whole, but the notification stopped working. It can be configured to sync - but it doesn't notify even though I re-enabled the setting. This happened since I turned it off for a vacation. My co-worker had the same experience.
Earlier people used to crib about form., now they crib about functionality. I personally think the new design is a welcome change. Of course a few tweaks here and there for the UI will make it the no. 1 product! EDIT: Couple of issues identified so far - 1. Folder unread count does not update until app restart/next sync. 2. Clicking on Sync removes all emails and resynchronizes everything, unlike previous ver which only syncs new items.
Update 2016-09-23. New yellow version broke calendar functionality. Still outdated despite redesign. Switching to Nine Exchange. Previous review: Using TD since 2010 or so, the best app for Exchange hans down. However, the Ui is outdated, icons are ugly and cannot be organized or replaced. Update June 2014: Symantec purchased NitroDesk and will most likely ruin it as many others in the past. Very sad.
I updated late - it's all "symantec-ey" now. Ok cool, whatever. Why can't I adjust the size of the widgets anymore? Seriously, you guys just screwed me and I can't see my calendar and email on the same page of my HTC10? So what, I have to have a page for my calendar and a page for my email? This is a personal BYOD device, not a corporate device. When will you have this corrected?
It was an excellent app with great widgets that I've been using for 6+ years. However the newest update moved many of the commonly used buttons around making it difficult to use one handed. It also requires more presses to accomplish the same task that I used to be able to do with one touch.
No idea how it works but just updated to symantec version and now I hate looking at the app and icon. Orange navigation buttons, no matter what theme is set. Ugly yellow icon is an eyesore in my app drawer.
Since the update the calendar crashes and requires reloading the app each time. They also removed the 1x4 upcoming event widget. Stupid moves by a bigger company that can't get out of its own way. Contacted support... non-existent... they have lost my entire company of phones...
Some gripes. Firstly please allow integration with built in calendar to take advantage of Google features (time to leave, navigation, etc). Secondly, please integrate with fingerprint authentication. Some basics misses. Will rerate better when/if these things are addressed!
I've used Touchdown for many years and have loved it. On September 2nd 2016 I installed the latest update. I sure wish I hadn't because the new "Symantec" color scheme makes this the ugliest program I've ever had on my phone.
Slow, clumsy. New design, silly spinning icons take up valuable screen space for useful information from emails, calendar. Ridiculous changes. Bring back last version until you can make a useful update. UPDATE:. After using. This is a terrible user interface. Clumsy, have to jump all over the screens to navigate, calendar is almost useless if you want to change views. New email "bubbles" are not adequate for longer group names-cannot distinguish between. Fix this!
I have been using Touchdown for a very long time. Love having everything on the go. Like the configurability. I just got a new Galaxy S7 Edge. Touchdown gets hung up 5+ times a day. I have to go into App Manager and force stop. Other than thatn works fine.
I've used TouchDown for years quite happily, but it's not what it used to be. The interface has been completely redone in a less useful and more "modern" style. I guess Symantec has decided form is more important than function. A real shame.
Non intuitive. Hard to figure out what to do. Can't accept an invite. Have to delete messages one at a time. Lost checkbook feature. I want to go back to previous version or I can no longer use this app.
Generally liked the new look, but cannot edit recipient list when I reply all. When I tap on a recipient to delete them, there is a cross to delete them, but it is too small and completely impossible to tap on. I am using a Samsung S4 mini. Pls fix and you get 5 stars from me.
***UPDATE 8/23/16*** They have finally updated this app to have a dedicated menu button in the UI. Thank you! Too bad it took almost 2 years. The widgets are great and the app functions as it should have. ***previous review*** Really!? No menu button? You have to know that most android phones have done away with the dedicated menu button and all other developers have updated to have that integrated into their apps. This is a corporate email app, it should be updated by now. This is disappointing.
Worked much better with prior version. New version tends to hang up when accessing the app to a blank screen and then freezes up the entire system. This has happened several times in the past week. Fix needed. I do like the new easier layout though.
Since last update, app is behaving abnormal. Crashes frequently. If auto push is disabled and I try to do manual sync, app crashes. Doesn't allow to send mail if auto push is disabled. Pls rectify asap as I love this app and don't want to lose it.
Was the best Email app available. Now has to be the worst. Battery drain, lag and horrible user interface. Its a shame I paid $20 years ago and was well worth it. Now I wouldn't spend a cent on the app. So bad I had to uninstall it. Now just using Gmail for exchange email. So disappointing.
I use this app more than 5 years. I was very satisfied with this app until the last update (from Symantec). I really hate this new look. It is very poorly arranged (some buttons are in bottom, some on the right side), legend of buttons overflow to the second line, actions as i.e. mark as unread I must choose twice (why I must too much clicking?), size of font is too big in overview of emails, some captions I cannot read, because it shows only few first letters, ... I am very frustrated with this new update. BTW: The screenshots in google play are from old version (before this new update), so this is a deception to all customers, who download or buy this app!!!
This is a horrible mail app. Bad interfaces. Buggy. Slow response. It hadn't been updated in years. Now Norton has bought and updated it and made it more buggy. If your work requires this app to use android, do yourself a favor and get an apple phone.
Used to work fine, now push and sync are failing. Interface changed. I rather use DOS mail then this new price of crap. I would like a full refund for releasing such a shameful 'update".
