This is not an etymology dictionary Connotation(modernly defined) refers to the wide array of positive and negative associations that most words naturally carry with them, whereas denotation(etymology the true root of a word) is the precise literal definition of a word that might be found in a dictionary. Some words like black which actually denotes to pale and death only the connative definition is found. Etymology of American is coppered colored people on the Continent of North South central America

Amazing app. My biggest critique is that there are not always definitions for many of the root words. So if you're not already an expert in latin, knowing that the latin word "Plex" is a root of "incorrupt" doesn't do much for you. More information on the pronunciation of the PIE root words would be cool for the layman. I also find the PIE roots the most interesting so if all words could be taken back that far, that would be great (even if there was the added qualification that the PIE root in question is mere speculation). Still getting used to the interface. When I want to look up one of the root words the single tap to return to the tree of the original query threw me a little. Other than that really useful.

Etymology is all about networking, just as synonymy, homonymy, hyponymy, etc. are. This is the first etymological resource I've come across to present the user with visual trees - trees are so useful! I give the app 5 stars but I have one complaint - not every etymological connection is made, there are a few historical relationships disconnected. There are also a number of entries missing. However, those are quantitative deficiencies - it just takes time to fill them in.

The tool is great for the constantly curious mind. My only complaint is that the interface is not intuitive and takes a bit of time to get used to.

The app I always wanted! Can't get much better than this.

This thing is awesome and surprisingly big. The only time I haven't found etymologies so far is when the origin of a word is unclear or unknown

I am very interested in this app but it can't open. I'll keep it installed for a while of an update comes around to fix it though.

Working well so far. I like the flow chart and just click on the word and the information comes up.

There are a lot of dictionary apps out there, but not many of them give you the etymology of a word; and what really sets this dictionary apart is the visual word trees. Hats off to the developers.

X70%
by X####:

The UI navigation is a bit clunky, and the descriptions of some root words are bare, or else non-existent, or not linked properly to each other The web-like nature of the app tool could use a richer completion.

Light weight, but handy, in a convenient package. Can't wait for the heavier version.
