Learn Chinese - Ninchanese for Android
This is the first app I ever paid for. That should give you a clue on how good it is. It's honestly a really good app, excellent at make you memorize characters. Maybe it could work more in the tones! When playing the pinyin game you never have to deal with the tones, which means that yeah you know what the character means, you know how to pronounce it in theory BUT that doesn't mean that you know the tone or know how to correctly pronounce it in practice. My suggestion is to offer another type of game with character recognition. So you'll have 我 and five different options for the tone: wō, wó, wô, wò, wo. You have to choose the correct tone each time. Anyway, maybe you already have this game and I'm suggesting something being just a beginner. I don't know. This app is amazing, great story, amazing to learn the language. Again, this is the first app I ever paid for so that should tell you something. Thank you ninchanese!
I really enjoy this app. I just wish there were more options for review of words besides once a day review. I have a hard time remembering the words when I can only review once a day and the "My Words" section isn't the best to review either due to the over explanation of each word I click. A flashcards section would be nice too! Overall a great app! I really like it.
I believe Ninchanese is the best Chinese learning app right out there. If I am writing a review right now, it means it is really worth downloading it. I NEVER write reviews, but I think the Nincha team deserves this one so much. Everything about it is just PER-FECT. It is really well-structured and well-organized. I love every feature they have in there. You learn slowly, but surely. It really makes sure you master every new words you learn and follows your progression. When learning a new language, you need motivation and Ninchanese CAN keep you motivated because it is so original, interesting and colourful. Last but not least, the Nincha team is the best supporting team out there. They are there to answer any of your questions and I can tell they really care about their users' learning progress and opinion. You never have to worry if they will reply to your message or not, they ALWAYS will. And they are never too late. I have so much more to say about this amazing and fantastic app, but I can't write a book on here. So what I will tell you is, download it right away and discover the genius app for yourself.
Let me just say one thing about this app.... it's absolutely great , fantastic and adorable.i have tried many apps to learn Chinese but they were all boring and not really useful for me but this app is just so simple and it have more details than other apps and it's so fun . seriously thank u so much for the great effort ????????
I don't know if you guys read these but this is the best app. I have had a hard time learning chinese but now this app teaches me at a level that's fun, easy, and so quick to learn!! I went from two years of rubbish apps to not know anything and now I can form sentences!! Thank you!
Really happy with the app. I like that clicking the character takes you to an information section with character breakdown, how to write it, and some common phrases, along with pronunciation. Sometimes a bit of lag in the app actually saying the character, but I'm happy so far building my vocabulary and learning the characters. The refresher is great too to challenge what you know versus what you think you remember. Great for beginners who want to really commit the characters and pin yin to memory. Definitely contemplating the paid portion too because I'm happy with the free stuff, and that's rare for me.
I had another Chinese learning app that was hard to keep up with and never seemed to go over the words I knew so I forgot them. This one does though pronounces the word correctly, and list the pinyin with it. P.S could you put a mode to permanently turn on traditional characters or show the stroke order -Thanks. -My account is Firestar
I've been wanting to learn Chinese years ago. I've tried many apps and none comes close to this one. This is the best. Especially because of its "algorithm" for learning by repetition. It is effective and it drills the lessons into your long term memory. Hope to see further development in user-interface. Keep developing the app. The Nincha team is doing great.
It's so good that i can actually memorize all the words without forgetting them after a couple of days later, and i can even build sentences in the right word order. What it's still lacking in is just the speaking exercise, i barely make it to the next exercise because i stuck on the second dialogue (intermediate level) that didn't want to play although i already pressed the play button. It's a little bit frustrating. I hope you can fix it : )
Would be great to have an higher level for more experienced learners with dialogues and some stories. Please don't fall under the "subscription category" like the other apps, one off payment seems more fair to me .
Hey, the first time I open the app it says "Meoops, having trouble connecting. Check your connectivity or settings and try again?". I have internet connection on my phone even though it's not stable, but I still can open other apps that require internet connectivity. I just want to know if it requires a really stable connectivity like you have to do it with wi-fi or it's just a bug.
Very good app and makes you recall fast!! Also has spaced repetition so it sticks. Also will you be releasing other languages later on?? Just wondering. reply: Korean, Arabic, or Spanish could all be great!
This app is great! It really makes it fun to learn and practice Chinese! The competitive challenges and the spaced review have helped me keep up the habit of practicing every day, and I've learned so much! :D
Decent The approach is very similar to Duolingo but maybe better. I've rated three stars because: 1) the speaking exercises don't work for me. 2) at first it accepts pinyin without the accents or numbers which is a bit tricky since the words acquire completely different meanings with each accent and technically are not correct without.
This looks like exactly the type of app I want, but am having problems connecting with the server. (So 4 stars for concept, may change to 5 if I can ever connect!) Have rebooted, reinstalled, tried with wi-fi, but still can't get in. :( Any suggestions would make me very, very happy! Edited to add: I just reinstalled--and it works now!! :D It's all I hoped, upgrading to 5 stars!! Now I can refresh my Chinese--I can still speak it, but my reading and writing skills have degenerated. Now, just want to get the traditional characters, and I'm set! :) Well, it DID work--once. Now I'm back to meowps, can't connect. :( Uninstalled again. Will try again later.
Edit: after having had the chance to try premium for a month, I'm less amazed. It's cute, but most of it is just a spaced repetition thingie for vocabulary. There is not enough speaking, listening and sentence building practice, unless you want to do the same exercise over and over. You can get a similar experience from downloading an Anki deck that someone else made, reading a tiny bit about grammar, listening to one episode of Chinese Pod every 30 words or so, and drawing cute cats on your study material. (Using Wordswing in addition would be a good idea, but would already exceed the amount of practice that I could get out of Ninchanese.) So… it's not bad if you have the money and would rather pay instead of using a combination of free tools, but don't expect it to be your main study component. --- Original review: I'd actually pay for premium, but I can't because I don't have a credit card. What a pity, because this is the cutest and most interesting language course that I've ever seen!
Really impressed by the app's storyline and such but disappointed in the quality of the sound snippets. They sometimes seem short and a little muffled which, as a beginner, makes it hard to learn the sound of this language. I have also tried ChineseSkill and found it has really nice sound quality.
It's just a little uninspired by way of teaching. They put SO much into the characters, story, and graphics. THEN...all of a sudden...it's NOT FREE! Hello Chinese has a better app in my opinion.
This app is the best language learning app, that I have ever used because it trains me to remember the Symbols and gives me the definition of each word and combined with others.Thank you guys, for not being like other language learning apps that just gives me the info and doesn't explain and moves on.Looking, forward to you guys making other languages available :).
I like this app, so interesting. But I have problem, doesn't work a voice lesson. I can't record my voice . In the settings on my phone all OK
Great app, robotic like speech is hard to follow and understand at times resulting in me clarifying pronunciation from external sources, this isn't much trouble though and is the only thing keeping it from a 5 star review. By far one of the best resources I've come across to help my learning. Good job!
It's a great app, but I'm not sure how you select traditional characters? Edit: this is THE best app for learning Chinese, they are implementing Traditional characters which is great news for people like me, that want to learn Traditional script
So the first thing I'm supposed to do as a beginner is type pinyin of a character I was never introduced to before, let alone I would have no idea what pinyin is, if I hadn't searched for it before. Do I miss something? Where is the learning part?
I wish they made one for Arabic too! I never review apps but I love this one. I am an Arabic and Spanish student as well and I wish yall made an app for them too. Excellent
I love the art and the concept of the app, and that it supplies constant review. However, could there be a way to test our writing skills? It's something we will have to learn. There's an app series called "Write It" that seems to do that kind of stuff pretty well, but it can't do Chinese because of how the system works.
After spending a massive amount of time studying Chinese, I've gotta say I'm impressed with this app. Perfect for begginers or those that are brushing up on their skills. Lessons are thoughtfully crafted to build upon the last to get you up and going In no time. One of the things I absolutely love is the voice recognition software built in. Really helps you build confidence in speaking so you can get out there and have wonderful conversations! Another great feature are the Ninchalleneges, making review lots of fun by putting your knowledge to the test vs. other users. Thanks for creating such a great experience for those of us learning Mandarin Chinese! ????????????
The app is awesome but i really dont know how to buy the full version. It keeps saying try for free, subscribe to fully level up. How to subscribe?? No link!
I've tried paid versions of the best 3 apps for learning Chinese and this one is a clear winner. I love that it learns which words are harder for you and brings them up more often on the reviews, the story is good, and I can see my performance improving. Compared to the other apps, Ninchanese has a much better story and learning flow than Memrise, and it makes _sure_ you learn, giving you enough repetition and insisting on the words you don't know until they get into your brain, unlike HelloChinese that moves too fast and doesn't reinforce enough so you end up forgetting. Could use a larger variety of games (called Ninchallenges), including some vs. machine and a real voice, but I guess it's just a matter of time for the developer. Definitely recommend it, totally worth it if you want to learn Chinese!!!
It requires an Internet connection just to start up. If there is connection, it forces you to sign in. It gets worse, it cannot be moved to SDcard. Not bad enough? So, to top it, it filled up almost 10MB of internal memory with data even without having logged in, and I don't even dare imagine how much more it would hog in full throttle. Devs replied that log-in is required to keep track of progress and sync devices. Why don't save it locally and back up/upload if/when wanted/needed? Really, very bad design.
Fun way to learn Chinese. It helped me a lot, not only in vocabulary but also in sentence structure. Thank you for your quick reply, I got access to the traditional Chinese. Getting more excited to learn Chinese day by day. Best app ever!!
Very creative way to learn. I really enjoy your app. It makes learning more interactive. I would like to try the advanced beta level, and I need the traditional characters enabled. My account is erichabibi, thanks!
Best app so far. I enjoy the story and how it looks like a game. Nothing like I've ever tried before.
I've been using the web app for years and was excited to finally have a mobile app. It's a very fun program and I look forward to studying ???? 大家、加油喵!
I like the concept of creating a story for the learning process. This app just needs polishing. First, there should be an assessment test to place the user in the correct world. The speaking portion doesn't detect tones very well. I intentionally said words with the wrong tones and it still gave me 100%. This app doesn't yet have enough content to make someone fluent as it claims. My chinese is between advanced and fluent levels. The highest level in this app was still introducing beginner level words.
This app is incredibly helpful learning Chinese, especially Chinese Characters. Feels like I used every tool on the planet and can't believe how easy and intuitive this is. I don't recommend often, but this is the real deal!
THE best and easiest way to learn chinese. you don't even realize you're learning so much. I only used this to learn and today I got my hsk results for the second level; and I passed!!!! thank you ninchanese!!
I wanted to resume a challenge, so I clicked "Play" and then it said I abandoned the challenge and that I lost. Wtf. Fix this and I'll give a good review. EDIT: thanks for replying, my username is hunsbea
Cute story to follow and it doesn't cram you with a whole bunch of information. It introduces new things at a good pace and has three different stages for each lesson.1)learn the words 2) make basic sentences 3) reading/ speaking.
Great app, lots of fun. Even better when you compete against friends. No friends? Well no worries you can play against other players! So if you want to learn Chinese or get some more practice is. This is the app for you.

Hey Nincha team, never really review apps but honestly feel like this is necessary. This app is nothing short of a strong competitor to apps like memrise and duolingo (which surprisingly does not offer mandarin). I really hope you continue to develop and implement your learning and teaching strategies into apps to come and as well into this one. Kudos. Hope to see a free feature or two for those who have been around since beta in the future ;)
