About Irish Trails

The Irish Trails app put information on over 600 Irish trails in your pocket. You can discover trails, get an overview of the trail and find out how to get to the trailhead with the app.

The app covers all kinds of trails – from the local “Sli” trails to long distance routes - so whether you are a family group looking for a Sunday stroll or a serious hiker looking for another mountain to climb this is the app for you.

The app lets you find trails nearby, search by county or by activity. It provides information on the trailheads, grading information and descriptions of the trail. You can also see and submit trail reviews and share your trail experience on Facebook. The app works offline so that you can find trails even in places where you have no data coverage.

The Irish Trails app is produced by the Irish Sports Council which works to develop and promote trail usage in Ireland. The Irish Trails app is powered by Nimble Tours.

Back button doesn't work. Little or no practical information. Don't waste your time downloading.

Was wondering why my battery life went to pieces, checked the usage & this app has taken over 50% even though I wasn't using it. Presume it was running in the background, uninstalled anyway.

Worst app ever seen on play store

It's annoying when developers show no interest in supporting the android version of an app. Basic functions like the back button don't work. It would if they actually cared about android users. The content isnt terrible but could be so much better. A little sparse not a whole lot of detail provided for potential hikes and such. Overall quite a poor app.

by C####:

Crashes every couple of minutes, unusable. And when I am exploring a trail and I click "Show on map" I expect to see where the trail is on the map, not where I am, in the city, trying to find where the trail is.... Genius design.

It is actually easier to download the pdf off from the irishtrails website

R70%
by R####:

Very poor content considering the organisation is a state agency.

L70%
by L####:

This App is not any good for Android as it only displays in landscape and the .pdf files don't exist on most of the trails. It is disappointing as it is promoted through the Irish Sports Council and would not impress any visitors to our country.

The app has some useful information, but (e.g.) doesn't respond to the "Back" button, (instead preferring to use screen real-estate for an occasionally visible but always too small "back" button). There's no way to exit, so you have to go to the "Recents" list and swipe it out to make sure it's not chewing battery when you're done with it. Most useful feature: list of trails near me / by county. It would be nice if these could be presented on a map, as well as a list of trails by location - easy enough to do, surely! Worst misfeature: too many to count. I can imagine this would be almost as awful on the iphone it was clearly designed for. Recommendation: install Walking Routes Ireland instead (I'm not affiliated with either, just a user who hates bad apps cluttering his phone and eating battery).

The content is good but the app itself is awful. Hard to navigate and I had to force close it as it wouldn't release gps lock.

Nice app but won't close and just uses the battery.

just a ported iphone app, need to download pdf to view trail. very poor functionality

Downloads a PDF map of the route? Really? Rubbish search. Impossible to sort routes by length or any other property. Rambling in Ireland is crying out for a decent app that helps users find new walks.
