Texture – Digital Magazines for Android
Love this app, easy to use (phone, tablet), Reasonable subscription pricing considering what you get. Some magazines i may read the whole thing, others i may occasionally just flip through to see one or two articles or browse.. Probably have been a subscriber over a year or two now.
I have mixed feelings. Texture functions well. Some magazines, like WIRED are adapted well for use on a tablet. Others, like the new The New Yorker, appear to be identical to print galleys. Those are a real hassle to use. With several long narrow columns of text, I am constantly swiping up and down and left to right. Lotta work.
I am loving this app...i am a sheer and pure magazine junkie. This app allows me almost all my chosen mags at my fingertips at any given time. I have been keeping "special" mags for 25years. Now I can screenshot what I want to keep and the husband can stop complaining about my stacks of magazines everywhere...well worth the money spent.
As a writer, photographer and marketing consultant I read tons of magazines and books and was subscribing to many of them which I'm going to be unsubscribing to some to cut down on the ones I buy now and will need to store later on. I love Texture it is very easy on the eyes! Brings magazines to life!
Do NOT use this program, they give you a 3 month trial, but you can't Cancel! You can't cancel or leave them a email because they insist you have a valid email address but none of my email addresses are accepted and my corporate email address is not a valid email address according to their website, so you cannot Cancel your subscription. Very very frustrating!!!!!!!
I'm in the trial period of texture, so it's a good deal right now but I'm not sure if it will be worth it when I have to pay $10-15/month Really don't like the user interface. It's terrible. Magazines are good, but it is hard to switch from online to offline. Many times the cover isn't shown (offline) so I can't tell what I want to read next.
This is a good app for anyone who loves magazines but hates dealing with having magazines lying around everywhere. I wish it had more sporting magazines such as a scuba diving magazine, but I understand it is not something that most would want to read. I also wish that it would let you know when new magazine titles are added to the collection.
Becoming more and more unstable and laggy with each update. Frequent freezes and hung downloads. The content, however, has improved with the inclusion of more magazines. Only game in town at this point unless you want to depend on the random magazines offered by Amazon prime.
So far I love it,. I just downloaded it today. It is a wonderful way to look at magazine's. Through the years I have cancelled all of my magazines, because of so many ads. This still has ads but it doesn't have cards falling out or attached to the page making it impossible to read the articles. Love it.
They don't update their magazines enough and there's alot of magazines that are missing. They should also create a search article tool so you can type in any name or topic and all the articles on that person or thing would come up
So it's ok. Even on a full sized tablet pictures appear grainy, even on a high end 9.7 tablet. It's also painfully slow to download multiple issues. It's great to be able to read multiple magazines, though some seem conspicuously absent while the app is loaded with foreign magazines.
Update 3/17/17 I'm sorry but I have to emphasize again that the QC sucks. I'm sitting here in a coffee shop, reading a downloaded magazine (Men's Journal April 2017). Yet, I still get pages that don't load automatically, and pages I'm reading constantly refreshing. Why?! So, if you're expecting a Amazon Kindle-like experience, you will be disappointed. ************* Update 3/15/17 It's gotten better, but I'm still disappointed in the refresh of page renderings and there are still some issues with magazines appearing downloaded but in fact aren't. Also, offline experience with downloaded magazines, when you really have no connectivity, is still inconsistent. On a recent flight I had no magazine covers, had to guess what each one was. ********************** Frustrated that you have downloaded magazines only to find out when you are offline that you haven't. Tech support is slow and, specific to this situation, non responsive. Good idea plagued by poor testing imho
So far, so great! I really enjoy reading articles, and even have a few actual magazine subscriptions. Having this one-stop-shop for a variety of content is like a dream come true. Not only can I select my favorite publications, there's also a feed of recommended content for me to browse and discover something new. The editorial quality is much better than the junk you have to wade through on the internet these days, and because it's a paid service, no annoying ads (other than what you get in a printed publication). After a few days, I'm hooked. This is my new official go to app when I grab my phone.
I've had this on multiple device types. Crashes every now and then or freezes and restarts. But hey its pretty OK. Not a world changing app.
This used to be a pretty good app for reading magazines. Now, it's painfully slow and horrible to use. Sadly, it may be time to cancel and just accept the death of the magazine format.
Great selection of popular magazines, but UI is not nearly as good as Readly and turning pages on my samsung S7 Edge is like pulling teeth, i.e. you drag along the screen and the page doesn't turn, whereas Readly works perfectly. Also, cannot page thumbnails like thou can in Readly out even in the Windows version of this app. The windows mobile version of this app is fast superior tho this android version... and that is a rarity.
I love being able to start reading an article in a doctor's office, then go home and finish reading it!!! The variety is great. The ability to read either the whole magazine or just an interesting article is really nice and I have found some that I never would have read if you hadn't suggested them!
Great deal if you have the time to read so many magazine. Some features that are found on a stand-alone subscription do not appear to be available in the Texture version (like the ability to go directly to an article by tapping on it in the table of contents), however.
Overall the app is fantastic. The monthly rate is affordable but sometimes my downloaded mags are not openable. More often than not I have to "trash" the mag and then download it again.
I've been using Texture for about a year and a half, and it's one of my favorite apps ever. The variety of magazines is well worth the subscription, and I really like the feature that lets you save articles into categories, perfect for saving recipes from the cooking magazines! The magazines look great on my Samsung Tab S2, and I love that they are formatted specially for tablet reading.
It continually freezes then shuts down. The only fix is to uninstall and reinstall, over and over again. Been a subscriber for over a year. They never fix anything. This problem happens across multiple tablets and cell phones.
Good app, but hyperlinks don't work and unlike other reading apps, there's no option to simply view the words in an enlarged font without pictures
I have a Samsung tablet. Software kinda slow and clunkly. If you place your data on the SD card and remove it from the device...you will have to download the data again, even if you replace the original card...lame
Ticket ID # QCG51875810 Ok, i did the samsung 3 month "FREE" trial and canceled it a month earlier. Yet i got charged 14.99 on my credit card a couple of days ago. I emailed the company to cancel it and return my money. I received an automated email that they will get back to me. Its been 24 business hours and nobody replied yet. Buyers or trial people be aware.
I hate I can not save magazine content in a PDF format and retain in my file system like Evernote.
I am just on my free trial and I love it. I always see two or three magazines I would love to read in the stores, but their prices or so high I just walk by. The monthly charge for this is fantastic for the amount of choices. Definitely sign up for the trial and if you can find 3-5 magazines you like this is worth it.
Great app even has back issues but needs higher resolution for tablets. Has every type of magazine you can think of. I love the travel, home decor, n fashion magazines.
Now that landscape works this a super service. Highly recommend. Now if only it would load faster. Still slow to load the app and a new edition.
Great....only took off one star because there are no page animation. That is really important to me! please fix ...
Ordered on phone then tried to install on Android tablet. Complete failure; constant error message. Then contacted customer support. On line ,,",help" worthless and no useful response over DAYS OF TRYING. Now can ',,,t even cancel. Total ripoff...Beware.
Update : 4/2/17--the app still desperately needs a way to share articles.
This app is great. Having access to so many magazines right at my fingertips and for such a low monthly fee is awesome. I do not see myself cancelling this service any time soon.
Lots of magazines but app doesn't open all of them. I have emailed Texture and it took over a week to reply with general fix that did not work. I have not gotten a reply for next step.
Perfect for what I need. Great selection of magazines at a reasonable price. Would love it even more if they had newspapers.
I hope more magazines will be made available in the future. Great app to have all my magazines in one place.
Great source for a wide variety of reading material and is presented in an easy to use format. You can thumb through a magazine much like the way you would with a physical magazine.
Absolutely love it! I work vigorously and this is my little piece of relaxation. Anything from science to fashion to bird watching to intuitive articles, just everything! Brilliant.
Since the app is only for your phone it is too small to read long term. I wish I could use my android tablet but not applicable.
Only been at it one hour but choices are quite diverse. Missing clump of magazines I usually look for. But maybe they will show up.

I was ecstatic when I first heard of Texture. I used to be critical of the service in the past but they seem to have their ducks in a row and provide great service. Great selection! Mental Floss is the ONLY Magazine I enjoy they don't carry. Too many good ones to name. Give it a try you won't be disappointed. My only "complaint" with Texture is there is so much to read you get behind. Always a good problem to have.
