WirelessMobileUtility for Android
Once it was good when I use my 4" android phone. Until I change to bigger screen android, the Time Countdown feature is missing, and I can not exit the apps unless using other 3rd party apps such as Greenify to hibernate or force closed the apps. Today I updated the apps, and still no changes. Maybe the apps developer should try with bigger screen phone. Or, mention specifically, what types of phone are supported with full features. If Nikon unable to do so, I guess that's why users are changing to Canon.
I wanted to really like this. However the lack of features lets it down big time. Needs urgent updating and additional features, such as allowing us to transfer full sized images from the camera, transfer of videos, allowing us to choose quality settings for taking pictures and videos. Currently it is so limited that the quality doesn't justify the use of the app for most things, making it far better to use a remote trigger and put your stuff on your pc or phone manually.
Do not bother with this app. Yes it connects and yes you can transfer photos with not much problem. But you can do that through your memory card. What I installed it for, of which does not work was the remote release feature. No live view at all. Yes you can take pics but you can't use focus as the camera button just triggers the shutter with no live view to pre focus. Nikon don't bother putting wi fi on your cameras if you can't set up an app to work with them.
App is usable on my Galaxy S7 though it had connection issues with my S4 mini. It still takes a long time to load the images from my camera for viewing and you can't switch apps without the app stopping the load process. With as long as the process takes it would be nice if you could switch apps and have WMU continue to load in the background so you could do something else. Still not a stellar app as it is so slow but it is usable.
This app would be great except it works for a short period but then the live view disappears. Only way to get it back is by removing the app and re installing. Tried on several devices. When working you can view remotely what the camera is seeing and hit the button to take a picture, then get a copy of the photo straight away on the phone or tablet. If only it wasn't so unstable. What has happened to the Japanese? Even a £10 Chinese cam has better software. You would think pride would make nikon get this to work. Is the CEO fast asleep? Do they not care?
50% of the time the app won't start and has to be closed by force. When it does open there's another big chance the transfer will hang and eventually fail. The camera has to be restarted then. Also, viewing and selecting pictures on the camera is nice when you have under a hundred pictures. The app needs to load all the thumbnails from the camera every time again when the app is reopened. It would be nice to keep them stored.
The app works for activating the shutter and downloading photos but that is it. No ability to change camera settings while in live view so you need the have the camera in auto or preset when taking photos. Additionally the file type is not recognized by my phone after download. Photos can only be shared from the app which limits the ability to edit before sharing. Canon has a much superior app that nikon should look into.
Experimented using this with my Nikon, worked well viewing pictures from the camera and auto download pictures taken to my smartphone. Nice! Wish to soon upgrade to DSLR with built-in WiFi so I don't have to connect extra gadget.
Worked perfectly with my d5300 until the new android nougat update, I bought this camera especially to use the WiFi function to upload straight to phone and it was brilliant. It now just shows an exclamation mark next to WiFi icon and stops at the downloading screen and the WMU stopped working, I thought this app is supposed to support android 7?! It does not so I'm really disappointed now. Please fix asap.
This app worked great before. Now I still cannot find the setting s to stop downloading after every photo, and I need to force quit the app after using it. That being said it still works. Still connects to my camera and gives me some functionality for remote shooting
I used this app on Sony Xperia z2 and worked perfect. Now I use it on Samsung Galaxy s6 Edge and works fine. Only problem is that Menu from footer is not accessible and I got no Exit option. Always after use I have to go on Settings/Apps and push the Force Stop...
The app does ok but has allot of improvements that are needed. First is being able to exit the app easily or at all. It clogs up my ask bar and my running icons. The only other useful function is the remote viewfinder but that automatically transfers the picture to the phone with no way to stop that. Again it's a good start but has allot of improvements that are needed. I am also getting the app crashing when trying to transfer photos to my phone.
To get the app to connect to my Nikon D5500, I had to turn on airplane mode, then connect to the camera's ssid, then open WMU. (Thanks to dpreview forum for explaining this.) With mobile data on, it never connects. (It also leaves a persistent notification saying "connected to camera".) So, my goal was to download a few photos for quick sharing, and this let's me do that, but I have to download and then share the photos from a separate app, so it may be too involved a process to really use.
A while after installing, it always stops showing the live-view. The overall look could be revamped too. It does give a very fast way to import to my phone and (when it used to work) could take pictures well from my phone. It majorly needs to be updated though.
Connectivity almost non-existent. I just sat her for an hour and I got 2 photos uploaded of 105. Frustrating. Not Nikon quality. Why make a camera with WiFi download if it doesn't work ? I take well over 1000 pictures a year. You are wasting my time and taking the joy out of photography!
Hit or miss. Sometimes works as it should. But more than often it constantly disconnects. You have power off phone, reconnect, repeat process a dozen times. Finally get a connection, wait 15 min to load pics, then get disconnected. Repeat process again, then finally start downloading only to be knocked off again. Spend hours trying to download pics is utterly frustrating. There has to be a better way.
Updated hoping this would fix my issue but sadly no! BOOOO ???? Can't get self timer anymore... Previously had no issues, but since upgrading to s7 I can no longer access this function as the buttons are diffrent on s7! Pls make a button in app to fix this issue.
When says connected to the camera it works great but then it will just disconnect, and that might be before you even download one photo! So you have reconnect and start over! It hasn't stayed connected once in the six times iv used it! Very annoying!!!
Works with my S6900 maybe 10 percent of the time. Every so often I can upload a photo to my phone. Usually it will show a preview of all the pics on the camera, and then disconnect as soon as you start to download a photo. Very disappointing. I prefer Nikon, but I guess I'll have to go to another brand for a more reliable app/wireless connection
Allow bulk image transfer at original size.. Exif information is lost after transfer.. Not able to rotate pics in my cell.. Sometimes disconnects abruptly.. By default it copies pics to internal memory. No option to select sd card.. I bought wireless dslr by spending more to transfer pics easily and this is what Nikon is giving.. No improvements even after updates .. Nikon is not reading reviews. Reducing the rating further
A great bit of software for remote shooting and review. But it could be so much more. Also phone constantly has camera connected notification you can't remove even when it isn't. If you can't get it to connect I suggest adding encryption on the camera and a password, then move the channel, as the default settings don't seem to play well with android like on my P610.
The user interface looks very unupdated and the stability have to be fixed very soon. It takes a very long time to connect and access to the pic in the camera. Sometimes the app freezes and I have to reopen the app and start over the process. Quite impractical app!
Utterly useless. Crashes every time I use it, meaning it takes about 15 minutes to just get one photo from the camera onto my phone. Constantly disconnects from camera, takes ages to preview the thumbnails. A friend has the iOS version which seems much better. Nikon, please, please sort this out, it's one of the key reasons I bought a D5300 SLR!
Please fix asap I don't want to waste money. I bought the piece to go with the app and the app is not functioning the way it's suppose to. It is not letting me see what the camera sees. But it's still able to take photos. Once fixed i will change to 5 stars!
Hai..it's good app,but still have minor bug.. 1.in take pictures I use leeco le max2 android 6.0 I can't see viewfinder in my phone but I can take the picture. 2. No video remote from this app.. please fix it
Doesn't work on the latest Android. It forces shut down. Haven't been able to transfer a single picture! And connection is not stable at all! I'm not able to use WiFi feature of D5500, which was one of the prominent reasons to choose this camera
Would be nice if it had a couple more features. Like remote shutter release setting and control over exposure settings. Would be great if it didnt lock out the camera while the app is running. In the end the app does what it is supposed to though. Have trouble getting a connection, and maintaining it. Then when i am done with the app i have to go into the system and force it to shut down, else it keeps running in the background.
Works well for me, only thing I find is there is no EXIT button, after using it the notificTion keeps on, no way of closing down. Im using Nikon L480 camera, this app workes on Samsung tablet, Lenovo tablet, and ZTE phone. Iget full size images and no problems. Good
This app continues to lag far behind the Canon app of equivalent function. Can't transfer full size images; can't use it to add location data; can't even close the app without forcing it through the app manager. Nikon- listen to your customers and give us a proper function android app.
Biggest issue is that the camera disconnects on the screen before starting download. Retrying usually works for one photo, two if you're lucky, then it will disconnect again. The app is barely usable in this state, but I have been able to transfer some photos with it. Unfortunate that this is the official app for uploading from camera, I expect far better from Nikon.
The whole concept of the app is good. But the implementation of its features failed as what user expected. The app cannot download the exact same file size of the photos from the camera. It gives lower resolution pictures. And as for remotely capturing photos, I can never make it work with my D3300. I hope Nikon could give time and update this app. I spent a lot on the Wireless Utility device but it does not give me any good photosl exports and it does not function on what it's meant to do.
Don't like the app at all and Nikon don't even bother to give a proper update to it. Simple basic functions are not there in this app. I tried this with my Nikon D750. 1. You can't change the settings of your DSLR. 2. You can't delete any files from the camera via this app. 3. You can't shoot without the live view. Even Canon gives a way better app than this. Totally disappointed.
The connectivity problems alone on this is enough to get a 1 star rating. But! What I love about this application is that you don't lose any megapixels when transferring content. I will definitely be researching for a new app though, unless they get this fixed asap!
The app can't be closed unless you 'force stop' it in the settings menu which is rather annoying having to go it every time on Samsung S6+ The picture transfer works well however
We can connect to camera using its own dedicated wifi and the pictures can be taken and shared almost instantly.. The focus from the smartphone is not quite accurate even though it shows lock. Also from the app we can only focus and click the shutter.. We can not change any settings at all for the camera. It should at least provide an interface to change ISO, shutter speed and aperture.. Because once connected, we can not make use of cameras LCD to change these settings.. We have to disconnect.. Change the settings and again connect to take the shot. Also there should be a possibility to use it as remote control with more functionality like delayed shutter etc.
Nikon, one of if not the top name in cameras, and this is the best you can do? Glitchy, and finally quit working altogether. I'm very disappointed that after all the time this so has been out that Nikon can't do this right. Very disappointed. This really will make me rethink my next DSLR purchase.
This app is so short on features and options that you'd swear nikon was a new player in the camera market. Canon's app is WAY better than this. I have 300 images on my D7200 right now and i don't dare connect my camera to the app because i don't want 300 images force-fed into my phone. Hurry up and fix that with an option. Currently i only have the option between recommended and vga. What is "recommended" exactly? Wifi shutter control on the camera please Nikon!
I think this app is a damn shame. My son bought me a beautiful camera for Christmas. I was very excited for the function of being able to connect to my phone to view and upload. This app defeats the camera. It disconnects or won't connect at all. And then the need to force stop just to turn off the app is rediculous. You need to fix this. Someone mentioned alternative apps. What are they? I would love one that actually works.
Now completely doesn't work on the latest update (1.5). Is "connected" but says "no pictures" when trying to take pictures or review them. Useless, had to restore my backup of an older version to get it to work. (Running android 6.0.1)

I have tried to use this several times. I would love to be able to connect it to my camera quickly and download and view my photos. Instead, I had to connect the camera to a computer... Which means a longer wait to get my pictures where I want them! It looks like several other people have this issue, and until Nikon fixes this, they will keep a poor rating from me and my family. They have made a product and app that are not nearly as compatible as they should be. Fix it.
