About SaferRide

Too drunk to drive means too drunk for complicated apps.

SaferRide is the simplest possible way to get home safe and only has three self-explanatory buttons on the Home screen.

• Choose from a list of available taxi services in your area, and with the tap of a button call them.

• Call a pre-programmed contact.

• If you just need to know where you are, you can bring up a map of your current location.

SaferRide was developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). NHTSA is dedicated to saving lives by reducing the number of deaths and injuries on our nation’s roadways. Each year on average, more than 10,000 people are killed by drunk drivers.

So please help end drunk driving by doing your part: don’t drive if you’ve been drinking. Use NHTSA’s SaferRide app to get home safely.

The "Get a Taxi" tab shows some cab services 2 miles or more miles than the closest one, maybe it takes the rating into consideration, I don't know. It needs a filter button, allow us to find the closest services with at least 3 stars, or allow us to filter by highest rating first. 2: when I scroll through the cab services fast the app stops working and closes and reopens automatically

A free app that could save a life = priceless. AT&T Navigator? = $9.99 per month plus tax and applicable data.

Just like the cousin of this app (safercar) made by the nhtsa (us government) said app has not been updated since 2014. This is what happens when the US govt. gets involved with private Industry. The nhtsa should only provide advice, not get involved directly.

Needs to go by the top-rated closest cab company the first cab that comes up for me is 92 miles the next one is 73 miles away the next two are out of business then finally the fifth one it was close enough to me to use otherwise a great app

This app's interface is very well laid out and the functions are intuitive but there are still some gaps. First, there is no integration with the Uber API at a time when the majority of young people are using Uber over traditional taxis due to the lower cost and improved convenience. Second, if a preferred contact is not set, attempting to Call a Friend does not provide you with any link to the phone's dialer or contact list, forcing the user to add in a contact manually into the app's settings.
