News & Observer (N&O): Mobile

After being an "Air Force brat" my first 9 years, my mom and I returned to her family farm in Greene County when we lost my dad. After high school, I attended NC State and was one of the first 90 coeds EVER to live on campus in Wautaga dorm in 1964. In 1969, I married another State grad and we moved to Houston in the late 70's to be part of the space program. We've been here ever since. I read the "News & 'Disturber'" every day, just as I did for the 8+ years I lived there.

I was always a big fan of the N&O as a former resident of Raleigh. I downloaded their app and much to my surprise and disappointment, I was blocked after 2 wks. Apparently, I will continue to be blocked unless I pay $12.99 a mo.(with the 1st mo.@1.99. Gee! Thanks!), or pay $99.99 for a yr. No where in the description of their app does the N&O state the limited viewing you will experience before being asked for money. No longer a N&O fan. Shameful. It is now Dec. and app is even worse!

My main problem with this app is that it uses a ton of processing on my tablet when I'm not using it. After installing the app and leaving my tablet charging overnight, my battery is never fully charged in the morning. After uninstalling this app, the problem goes away. This app does not provide enough value to make up for this problem.

Slow response, signed onto main page and got a banner telling me I was the "lucky Mobi winner of the day" of a $1000 gift card then app just went ahead to other pages and wouldn't respond. What a POS!!! I can't believe I want to still read this rag that bad in the first place.

This app is so much about delivering ads that it makes it truly difficult to read the news. I'm paying for this?

The app does not make you aware of a limit to viewing articles for free. After the limit of 55 articles is reached, you are then blocked and asked to pay 12.99/mo or 99/year for a subscription. That's insanely expensive for what the app offers.

Good coverage of NC. Ads can be irritating, but they have to generate revenue somehow.

No need to pay for the app. When you max out, just uninstall and reinstall. Number of articles read are recorded on your device, not centrally.

If everyone in our state would take a little of there time every day to better inform themselves, NC would prosper.

Why does the n&o continue to try and make me buy a subscription for this app?....It says it's a free app on playstore!

Good app overall, but the app news notifications should open the referenced article!

One change that would make this five stars - when I get an alert, I press it but it doesn't tale me to the story.

A modest mobile subscription rate slashes thru a wall of adds and other delays in reading the article you've chosen. The digital edition allows me to catch up on news when I have a little spare time. I don't have to carry print edition with me to experience the freedom to read at my convenience.

I like the balanced reporting and the investigative efforts of the journalists..

Easy to use and I enjoy reading the local news on a regular basis.

Newspaper

This is a poorly created app by people who know there is no other choice if at all interested in local issues. It stops loading after the picture, refusing to load the words of the article. When adds pop up (I realize it's partly ad supported) it will freeze or the close 'X' doesn't work and instead opens the ad in a browser, without allowing any way to return to the app. I really like knowing local news but this app is about to make it too hard and not worth the ever increasng cost.

I wish that when you click on a notification that it will take you directly to the news article instead of a list of articles. I do not want to have to search for an article that I received a notification for.

Had to uninstall then reinstall to read articles after latest update.

Since Wednesday's update, I can no longer read articles on my Acer tablet. ***I was hoping that the problem would get fixed but it is now Sunday and I still cannot read but one article. Why do upgrades that destroy your product? August 1st and still cannot use the app. Still can only read one article. Loved it BEFORE the "upgrade".

Can only read one article since the July 15 redesign. This ap would be great- if it worked. Fred S

Expected corrective update by now. The website doesn't work right on my tablet now, either. Same problems others reporting on the app.

I've started getting notifications even though I've never had them enabled, and still don't .

When I try to enable my digital subscription, it never works. So after the free views, becomes bloatware.

Nice UI, but a search feature and the ability to leave or read comments would be a welcome addition.

I just might stop subscribing this free amp is great.

Would like to be able to get Aces bridge, crossword, cryptogram, sudoku and jumbo to download and work.
