La palabra “hada” procede del latín “fatum” y significa destino, oráculo.

- Según los celtas y los eslavos, las hadas fueron descendientes de los ángeles que fueron obligados a vivir en el aire, en el mar o en la tierra.

- Según los bretones, se tratan de ángeles neutrales que fueron obligados a permanecer en la tierra, el aire, el fuego y las profundidades del mar, mientras que los ángeles buenos fueron enviados al cielo, y los ángeles rebeldes al infierno.

- La mitología escandinava relata que se apareció Dios a una mujer, le preguntó Dios si estaban allí todos sus hijos y ella le contestó que sí. Clasificación de las hadas atendiendo a los cuatro elementos de la naturaleza: agua, fuego, aire y tierra.


- Hadas del agua: debajo de los ríos y mares, hay inmensas ciudades y reinos de ninfas y duendes del agua.

- Hadas del fuego o Salamandras

- Hadas del aire o Silfos: Estas hadas son las hadas más grandes en estatura y a veces aparecen como mariposas.

- Hadas o espíritus de la tierra: Según la mitología, los duendes son grandes seres mágicos que se dividieron en dos grupos: duendes de la luz y duendes de la oscuridad, los cuales vivían en los bosques oscuros y bajo las olas del mar.
En este grupo también encontramos a los Gnomos, que no habitaban en la superficie, sino en el subsuelo, y a los Trolls, que temen a la luz del día.
