About BlindSight

BlindSight uses cutting edge artificial intelligence to see the world as humans do. Twin neural networks mimic the brain's visual processing and language production centres to convert images from your phone's camera into spoken words, helping blind and partially sighted people navigate the world around them. No internet connection required - BlindSight's AI runs entirely on your phone's hardware.

Developed using Google's Tensorflow and based on the model detailed in:
"Show and Tell: Lessons learned from the 2015 MSCOCO Image Captioning Challenge."
Oriol Vinyals, Alexander Toshev, Samy Bengio, Dumitru Erhan.
IEEE transactions on pattern analysis and machine intelligence (2016).

Disclaimer: The technology behind BlindSight is new and remains experimental. The app is not a medical device; it will often be wrong and is not to be used in lieu of proper assistive devices.

The app recognises scenes fairly well, so is helpful. I did not find any voiced feedback from touching the screen, you just double tap the screen to get the announcement of what the camera is pointing at. The app does not give a continuous reading, but reads what it sees when the screen is tapped.

I can certainly appreciate the use of this but I am very clearly a female and it keeps saying that I am a man with glasses and both of those things are very false. It also keeps saying that my room is the bathroom and it keeps putting random objects in the frame that aren't there such as it keeps saying that there is a cat in the room and I don't have a cat.. I don't really understand where it's getting some of the things it's telling me

Out of 10 items, it got 1 right (a pair of shoes but then it said on top of skateboards. The shoes were on a carpet). Complete garbage App. Don't bother.

I love the attention to details. Also didn't know there were so many toilets in my house.

Out of the box. Results are worse and funny. Without internet is appreciable

Humorously inaccurate. Doesn't ocr which is fine, but it won't describe a white sign on a tan background as a sign on a wall.

Very cool idea! Definitely needs some work in the accuracy Department. Very excited to see this app grow!
