NotateMe for Android
My favorite, lovely app)
The concept would be perfect if it worked. Instead, I spend my whole commute trying to get it to recognize even its own preset symbols. I have reset the handwriting learning several times to no avail. At this point, I'm better off using old-fashioned pen and paper since I have to transcribe it into proper notation software anyway.
Piece of crap. I want my money back. Totally lost two files I was working on. Selecting a note and moving it up or down some times either doesn't change the note or it disappears. When I tried to reset the learning, it just stopped working altogether. Useless.
Too much time to learn and to correct mistakes. I work with sibelius more than 10 years which have more options but it is easy to learn than this program. I don't have time to explore and find out is something is bug or my mistake. You should have simple UI. 1st click- main options. 2nd click all sub options . This one is more like a game - try to find what is wrong. It is you or it is software !!!!
App is great but suffers from the tablet market not taking advantage of decent stylus integration. Using you finger is too cumbersome
It took some patience and I am still getting it to recognize obvious notation but other than that, I am glad I have the paid version. I played around with the free version first. I recommend that. Good app. Thank you, Team that made this for phones. Mine is a Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
...however, it can be difficult at times. I notate a bit strangely and have only been using this program for a day so there is still much frustration, but it only gets better. I'm learning, the program is learning, its a process. Also, it's really inexpensive when you look at Sibelius or Finale, or even the microsoft touch notation app, which runs about $70. Aside from the time it takes for the program to acquaint itself with myself, and missing functionality concerning repeats (a serious problem for someone writing for steel band, please fix), this is the most brilliant notational software I've eve ever had the privilege to use. As a musician and arranger by trade, it was more than worth the $40 purchase. [EDIT] another big issue for me is not being able to write in rolls. I don't need to hear them, but being able to write them in is a must. Please try to add this in the next update!
When I save a song in an MIDI file it doesn't have any staccatos or slurs and takes out parts. It's a bug
Id like to see a more traditional note input system added along with the handwriting
This is a great app for sketching ideas that will later be edited on a notation program! (I use Sibelius) this speeds your composing process quite a bit and spares you the hassle of carrying a large notebook around with pencils, erasers, leads, etc. I use this daily so I definitely recommend it.
Though it takes a bit of time to get used to the app (and for the app to get used to you), it works rather well. Only cons is that I wish the interface were snappier in general. Good buy!
I have been using this app for a bit and it has the potential to be very useful. For creating musical arrangements on the go, things like the Segno and Coda Symbols, and Multi-Bar Rests and Simile Marks are adsolutely necessary for me. I hope these are planned for an update in the very near future.
Wont recognise x for drum cymbals. I had to drag and drop x's from the "add object" menu and then add the staff myself. and when it finally worked i just copied and pasted them.
The HMI concept is great - powerful and intuitive. But bugs get in the way of realizing the true potential of this app; and they've been there for too long for an app of this price. Most notably, the extremely poor stylus sensitivity and the buggy score rename feature. Looking forward to seeing these improved.
I have been desperate for an app that I could use on the go and then download into finale once I was back home. I took my chances with this one....... I've been trying for a week to get this app to recognize my notes. NO such luck. After two days I ordered the stylus they recommended (another $20+ spent) I anxiously waited two days for amazon to deliver, hoping the new stylus would be the magical solution. The app still doesn't recognize even a simple quarter note. I erased the learning and tried to have it re-learn my notes......it actually is worse now than when I started. I've been at it long enough! I no longer have the option of a refund, so I'm out $60 and could do much better with a pencil and some manuscript paper. ALSO......the photo feature is more money. I thought it was included and was one reason I bought the app to begin with. You are wasting you money with this app. (A lot of money) FYI - I was attempting to use this on a samsung tablet (large 10" screen) and bought the adonit jot stylus.
This app is the perfect idea of notation software for handheld devices. Love how I can use it anywhere, anytime and thus illuminating paper clutter, waste, pages smudged with graphite, the necessity to carry a notebook around with no instant feedback. Other apps don't even come close to the functionality and no app beats this for speed. I WILL USE THIS APP INDEFINITELY. Can't wait for future versions and upgrades. (Applause) Encore!
Handwriting recognition is totally unpredictable. Nearly identical symbols can get interpreted completely differently, often as something that doesn't even resemble the original handwriting. Some editing functions are very shaky, too. (E.g. trying to move a single quarter note with no other objects around can easily make it disappear, even if the movement is just 1-2 semitones or 5mm horizontally on a 10" screen). Many important features are missing (adjusting the no. of bars in a row, adjusting font size etc.). Writing a drum score is a real pain. The idea of forcing users to fix misinterpreted symbols on the handwriting pane and use the app's weakest feature again and again is conceptually wrong. My worst buy for many years.
For an app it isn't cheap BUT it works very well. You do need a thin stylus (but that works well with the Google Handwriting input too) AND you need some patience while you and it get used to each other - we've had squabbles : ) . I'm very happy with it.
Exceeded my expectations, but I'd definitely like some settings to tweak my notation experience (as in stroke interpretation, view/playback prefs, etc., not theming & other frivolous options), and visualization of the personalization data. I'd also really really like to be able to tap in the noteheads for pitched notation like I can for percussion, to make non-stylus notation infinitely easier. (Most mobile devices do not come with a stylus, etc. Consider your user base!)
A very clever app for music composition. However, I ask the developers to please extend PhotoScore to import and scan image files (i.e. downloaded or Gallery images) in addition to the current camera (only through the viewfinder) option?
This is the app I always turn to for composing. Also, when is the Audioscore feature coming out?
I still need a full desktop environment for editing/publishing; keep working on handwriting recognition both in scope & accuracy. It's not a bad start; good for working while commuting.
I can't change the layout to suit my music and I can't input Chinese words
An amazing app. It saves so much time writing and printing arrangements.
But no other android app offers the photo score function for several staves. anyway , would wish for ability to import jpeg or pdf sheet music in addition to photo score. I get a lot of sheet music from my choirs by email, and would like to save me the effort of printing. also missing but very important are coda signs and such (to Coda / d.s / d.c. al ... etc.) Need also the ability to repeat a bar more than once, e.g. when a song has more than 2 verses
A good app. Use it most days to quickly draft out parts to print. Sometimes it's a little "keen" when guessing what I mean, but very handy.
Really good for writing muusic. There are just a few little things that would make it even better, such as having a cursor like function as well as the eraser, red pen and notating pens. This cursor could allow for you to hear just a single note or chord. But apart from that, this is amazing.
Be ready to put in some time learning the app
I don't know if it's witchcraft or super genius but this app is crazy good. You write it and it knows what it is. That's crazy.
What's up guys? Been a long time since we've had an update to the basics of the notating music app here. I'm mean, what good is all the other stuff if the basic principles of the app don't work. It's getting full of bugs... Can barley use it now. If I try editing a line all these cross ties and changing of rhythms in other measures happens and the back button won't work to revert it back. Really sucks right now. It's a mess.
Notation recognition is very poor. There's another mode where you can place notes from a toolbar, but it is also not reliable at all. Much easier to find another program that actually works for a 10th of the price.
Top marks to Neuratron - both for the manner in which they quickly rectified the issues left by the update before last, and the numerous major improvements that came along at the same time. Support also had the decency to engage with consumer reviews. Every function can fall into place with practice. Best app I've bought on any platform.
this app is amazing, I use it for teaching. The photo score is an absolute game changer!
I hope you can add the Google drive as a cloud storage
Use the desktop version of Photos core and NotateMe. Decided to add the two android apps to my phone. Amazing. Just take a picture and the score is ocr'd with remarkable accuracy. Stylus pen on my Galaxy Note 4 works like a charm.
works brilliantly on the galaxy note pro 12.2. Running Cyanogenmod unofficial CM12 custom rom.
Totalmente indispensável! Não há palavras para dizer o quanto mais produtivo ficou meu trabalho! Assustadoramente bom!
Terrible writing .....don't buy this app

Great app for writing when traveling. Quite nice with a stylus - I use it with a Samsung Galaxy Note tablet. You need to "teach" it your writing. Can be clumsy at first but it gets better soon. I really like the feature to export to XML format. Allows me to import scores to Sibelius. And the native sound samples are pretty decent. The free version also has Photoscore, so you can convert existing sheet music to XML. Doesn't always resolve it, but I find no score photo conversion I have tried ever does. All in all, a wonderful tool for composing multi-instrumental parts on the go if you're used to writing on stave paper. I love that I can write anywhere (even when not connected to WiFi, unlike Noteflight which is Web based). I used to scribble in notebooks. No longer!
