세종대왕기념사업회는 1956년 10월 9일 한글날 기념식상에서 창립한 문화기관으로서 우리의 성군이신 세종대왕의 성덕과 위업을 추모하여 이를 길이 보존 선양하고 겨레 문화 창달에 이바지함을 목적으로 하고 있습니다.

우리 회는 창립한 이래 세종대왕기념관을 건립하여 한편에는 세종대왕에 관한 유적과 유물 및 관련 자료를 진열 국내외인에게 관람시키면서, 다른 한편에서는 세종대왕과 세종조 문화에 관하여 연구하고 국역 및 역주 사업을 실시하고 있는 바, 그 동안 세종대왕전기, 세종문화사대계, 세종문화문고, 세종학연구, 교양국사총서, 한국문화전통론, 조선왕조실록, 증보문헌비고, 국조인물고,석보상절,능엄경언해, 한국고전용어사전 등 6백여 책을 발간하고, 한글기계화연구, 한글글자체 개발, 한글날과 세종날 기념식, 한글특별전시회, 세종날글짓기대회, 외국인글씨쓰기대회, 한글글자체공모전, 학술연구발표대회, 세종성왕대상시상 등의 사업을 하였으며, 또 세종대왕신도비 등 구 영릉 석물을 발굴하여 세종대왕기념관에 이전 설치하고, 세종성왕기념탑을 건립하였으며, 영릉 성역화와 세종대왕 동상 건립과 세종대왕 영화제작 등에도 지원하였습니다.

이제 우리 회는 과학 문화의 세기인 21세기 세계화시대를 맞아 기존 사업을 수행하면서 세종대왕의 위대한 자주-민본-과학 정신을 재조명하여 세계화시대의 귀일된 민족정신으로 삼아 이를 국민들에게 새정신 운동으로 전개 주입시키면서, 한글과 세종조의 과학문화를 온세계 인류에게 홍보하고, 보다 알차게 연구하고 교육하여 새 문화 창조의 대표적 전당의 구실을 할 한글박물관
등을 현 세종대왕기념관을 중심으로 주변 일대에 건립하고자 추진하고 있습니다.
