Nest for Android
I want to see and change the set temperature, see the actual indoor temperature and the true radiant estimation on a widget, make a small version and a large version. I will update the rating when you do that. I hate having to open the app, it's so silly when Android let's me use widgets to make things easier. Google/Android is part of Alphabet. Nest is part of Alphabet. Work together to bring convenience to your customers. A widget will cost little to make and will provide lots of convenience.
1. Please add notifications, like if the pin is entered incorrectly 2. Let us to set the amount of time before it dims/turns the display off 3. Add a timer option so I can set it to turn on/off in X amount of time 4. Allow us to set the schedule to turn it on/off 5. Allow us to set auto-away to "on" for the less tech savvy people so all they have to do is walk by the Nest to end away so they get A/C or heat 6. Add a lock icon on the home screen and main screen of the Thermostat so we know it's locked
I've had a lot of so-called programmable thermostats since the 1980's. The Nest thermostat (Gen 3) is hands down the best thermostat out there now. Everything just works. The only thing could suggest is an option to have an adjustable swing temperature of ½º. It comes with ±1º and is not adjustable. Other than that I have no wants. To be able to control it (easily) via your smart phone is wonderful. LOVE it!
Have the thermostat and 2 outdoor cams so far, adding 3 indoor cams later this week. Interface is simple and easy to figure out. Video history seems to work fine with a solid wifi signal and good Internet speed. Having to use a PC to set zones is kind of a pain, I would think there's a way that could be done in the app. Also, would be nice to set specific notification sounds just for the Nest app. I'd rather a distinctive sound for a motion alert than the same sound I get for all of my notifications.
Home away dosent work.Any programable thermostat will raise temp during day and lower at night. Home away is realy the only thing that will save you money and it dosent work. (Dosent see phone) If I have to set away manually whats the point.Having said that i really like it but want to love it. NEST Fix it!!
For the life of me I can't figure out how to get notifications on my Android device to work. It was briefly working when I kept the app open but that has since stopped. I've contacted support and they can't seem to figure it out as well. Update: Recently purchased a Nest Protect and after testing I received no notification on my app.
My heating used to work fine, and then they changed the home/away setting for a heat/ECO setting. That's when I started coming home to a cold house after a night shift. I've had to turn off all the NESTS features. I might just as well of saved my money and kept my bog standard thermostat. I am so disappointed that I will be removing it and looking into Hive Thermostats. DON'T waste your money!
There is only the setup page available, even though I am signed in. If I hit back in the app, it always redirects me to the page to set up a home... Which I already have... And I can't get away from the screen no matter what, so the app is now useless. It won't register when I'm home.
App works decently. If your connection is not very strong the speaker feature doesn't work very well. You can press the button to talk and the app keeps loading and works half the time. Also my suggestion is to add a speaker phone button so the phone user doesn't have to place phone at their ear to hear.
Nest, this app is worthless. Notifications are awful. I can't view my clips, just one second (using real fiber optic internet). $300 a year in CVR fees... Please fix this. What is the point if I cannot view my alerts on my phone?
The Nest app complains that my phone incorrectly reports its location. When my phone reports its location, how does Nest know it's incorrect? Also, the phone is a Google Pixel and Nest is owned by Google! Yet they can't make the app work with their own hardware. Nest support blames the malfunction on my carrier. Also, ALL other apps with a location feature work.
Latest update is a little buggy as i switch to landscape view when reviewing Clips it fast forwards to live video. HomeAway via phone location works perfect with one phone but not 2 or more. the ability to save Clips to your phone's memory works just fine for me. The hardware is top-notch clean install couldn't ask for anything better and the camera is extremely intelligent swaying trees and Shadows on the lawn moving quickly in Wind does not cause fake notifications
I bought the nest and cam a few weeks ago and I can't get rid of the STUPID banner trying to up sell me a subscription. It is annoying beyond belief and often interferes with viewing the video and if you touch the screen in the wrong place it takes you to a pop up window to sign-up. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME!
Cannot view live feed or recorded videos when in corporate network environment. On the same network, Logitech Logi Circle(another very good security camera) app works fine. Please improve. My coworkers with Nest are having the same issue
App is worthless unless you pay another$100 for 10 days of cloud storage.. only gives you 3 hours of view and it's spotty cuts out with blank view. Why are we not allowed to stream videos to our own storage on our own home network? RIP Off!!!
I hoped that the introduction of eco would fix Works with Nest Auto-Away integrations, it did not. Update, @nest: I doubt you will fix it if I call. Get back to me when Wemo switch responds to Nest switching to Away automatically. It is featured as a Works with Nest partner. In fact, let me know if when ANYTHING works with auto-away ( it is just called Away, but it is still different from manual Away).
I love the remote control aspect of the app. I don't like the 2 household limitation but could be improved if you could switch between accounts more easily. Also, the app constantly shows my phone as Not Here which causes my Nest to go into Away when I'm home which is very annoying. Location services enabled. Contacted Nest Support and got no response.
I want the full screen video back. Each update seems to make the user experience worse. Tell me why a timeline of my video is more important than my actual video. 1/3 video 2/3 timeline is just silly. At least provide a way too turn off the timeline, it's not a feature I care about at all.
Software is really holding the hardware back. To many bugs and just generally slow and not very smooth. Still waiting on bug fixes. Very frustrating when your introducing new features and changing the way the app looks without optimizing performance or fixing many of the bugs. Very disappointing from such a large company with so much resources at its disposal.
Very clear but takes far to long to load. Worst customer service possible. Updated: 29/09/2016. No improvement. Has to be force stopped all the time.... Please fix 6/12/16. Update 18/1/17. If I could give this app minus figure I would. Constantly crashing. Screen going black is the new issue. Reinstall again and see. Products are great. App is terrible
A forced update to my perfectly working nest system has made my thermostat less useful. Before I could set the system manually away or at home. Now there is this awful eco setting which seems to have replaced it. So now I set away and it goes into eco but then randomly comes out of eco mode whilst still being set to away. I've turned off all sensors but it still doesn't function the way home/away used to and takes control away from the user. Not good.
Gets worse every f'ing day!! It went off line 28 times in 16 hrs reset my Internet reconnected the camera and solved nothing. Never had this problem before until the firmware update. Strongly considering dropping this product!
This app doesn't function worth a damn. The scrolling through time feature never works. You constantly have to close/reopen the app just to see your live video. I have 4 nest cameras and paid a lot of money for them and continue to pay a lot monthly for this service. Get it fixed ffs. - Edit: Sightline is still buggy. Hard to see what and when you actually want to see. Adding an input for a time you'd like to view would be a good start.
Love Nest's line of products. I own them all - including several security cameras. The app has been really reliable for me. A few minor bugs here and there such as camera stays offline.
Don't buy this! The NEST engineers/programmers have successfully ruined their product. The camera portion of the app doesn't work any longer (although the PC does.) The thermostat home/away feature and ECO function works when the algorithm allows and senior reps at NEST cannot explain it. The October 2016 update to the thermostat makes it now incompatible with ADTPulse. The app also disrupts the functionality of LIFX bulbs. The engineers/programmers will not communicate directly with me.
Most of the time the past video won't play in the app, if you are even able to select the right time and not have it jump around. I have fibre internet, it's not a speed issue on my end. I'm looking at buying a Samsung local storage camera instead. Web client uses flash and mostly doesn't load preview images so looking for spots in the video means waiting for the entire thing to load.
Timeline/history in latest release is nearly useless. It's difficult to go to the beginning of motion and very often just goes to a still in the middle of motion with no play button. The previous version was in every way superior, except for the speedup time lapse when you drag your finger up or down, but that is clearly just neat and not essential.
I have used two different phones now and it does not recognise when I am out of the house. I have been through all the troubleshooting yet it is still not working correctly. I have to switch Nest off manually whilst away
Wow!! The must functional feature that should be included, is not! You cannot enable alerts from the app. What a joke!! Edit: the app still has no function to enable alerts. Had to go through the desk top website on my phone to do it. Very ridiculous. Developer replied lying insisting this could be done through the app. That function does not work.
Great app unless you have the camera. Once I added the camera I get tons of nuisance alerts and disabling them in the app doesn't seem to work. I killed them with the OS, but that means I won't get a notification from my Protect if the house burns down :(
So exactly which app do I need to install to access the page/functionality depicted in the 2nd screenshot, "Adjust the temperature from anywhere."? Because it's not this app! So I can't see the temp in the house, in turn, I can't turn the temp up/down, I can't see the schedule.. I'm hard pressed to name 2 things I can do in this app.
My wife (iPhone) and I (android) both have to log into nest everytime we open the App. This was not the case before and is extremely annoying. Also, did the enhance video option go away? Not as happy as I was before.
Works great. I love the interface with the Nest protects. One of the best things I did once I bought my house was getting rid of the old alarms with all of their false alarms and installing the nest protects using this app. Easy job, efficient, and no more false alarms. Love Nest thermostat too. Much better than the Honeywell it replaced.
Its in the name, it saved my home, my dog; alerted me at work there was smoke in the kitchen called 911 the fire dept, broke in got my dog out put the small fire out! SMOKE kills also. Thank You NEST!
Wouldn't buy one but my electric company subsidized 110% of the cost. Had to disable the learning feature completely. The auto away is unreliable and slow to react. No power user features. Limited user interface.
It's really hard to scroll through the events now and pinpoint a location. Every time I'm moving through a video and release my finger it always changes to a different time. And is there a way to speed up the playback?
Latest version is using over 50mb of data in the background of cellular data. I was out for 3hrs today without wifi and it used over 50mb that's nuts. The app was idle all day. I switched from unlimited T-Mobile to project Fi to save money but this is going to cost me a fortune. If I'm off wifi for 9hrs at work alone that's 150 mb a day 10 days that's 15 dollars which is roughly 40 dollars month just at work.... Fix the data issues or I'll be forced to give up my nest products
Don't purchase the Nest thermostat unless you are prepared to wake up at 3am with no heat. Two months after my warranty expired, the Nest expired... convenient to say the least. I was told I could purchase a new one. In a frantic hurry to get the heat on I spent another $250 to replace it as the tech told me my previous thermostat was defective... Installed the new thermostat and got the same error. Now my wife and two three children are huddled around space heaters due to spending hours on hold for nothin
The only option I have is the set it on Away Mode. I can't adjust temp or anything else. Useless. (Update) No longer useless. Had to create a new profile and everything works. Now, if only Alexa could do more with Nest.

I've just completed the replacement of the original electronic time clock of our home heating system with the Nest Thermostat and Nest Protect. It is all working correctly, and apart from now setting up the schedule times for heating and hot water, we are absolutely delighted with the products. My only negative comment is regarding the time settings for heat or water. These are in 30 minute increments. It should be possible with future software updates to change time settings by 5 minute increments, giving the user more precise control over scheduling. Having considered other manufacturers' similar type products, I think this is the best on the market. I have no hesitation in recommending Nest.
