About NeoRouter VPN Free

*** In order to use NeoRouter VPN Client, you must setup a NeoRouter Free server.
*** For tablet users, please also try NeoRouter Remote Access Client.

NeoRouter is a cross-platform zero-configuration VPN solution that securely connects Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and FreeBSD computers at any locations into a virtual LAN. User can view the status of these computers and access them using various add-ons like remote desktop, terminal, file access, etc.

On devices with Android 4.x and above, NeoRouter for Android operates in VPN mode. User can seamlessly access remote computers by their virtual IP addresses using any app.

On devices with Android 3.x and below, NeoRouter for Android operates in Tunnel mode. User needs to configure dynamic or static port forward tunnels. It only works with apps that use outgoing TCP connections.

NeoRouter VPN Free is 100% free for both commercial and non-commercial usage.

Works as advertised. Connects your device to your neorouter server. Third party apps have to be used after connected such as a VNC client, RDP client, SSH client, or a SFTP/SMB compatible file manager. All of which are freely available on the play store. This app just makes the connection. Great app. Thank you.

Doesnt work- Tested on multiple networks and PC's. Eventually I tried on my 3g connection with no firewall enabled and still couldn't connect. Hamachi works, do that 1.

U70%
by U####:

Used to work fine. On 6.0.1 with nrserver on Ubuntu it connects but there is no ping, or working connection. Firewalls disabled still problematic.

M70%
by M####:

I've been using neo router as my VPN for quite some time and while the mobile version of the client works it's throughput leaves a lot to be desired one of the more important functions it's lacking is the ability to switch between the three communication modes UDP tcp/ip and server relay. there are many times when you want to change this manually because certain Network configurations work better under different circumstances

N70%
by N####:

This is one piece of excellent software. Would help if the connection was persistent as the link drops from time to time, but apart from that it works well. Even through a properly configured server and router!! (Hint hint!!)

N70%
by N####:

This software has phenomenal potential. I'm using it on three windows computers, two android devices and one linux. For remote desktop, I get better results using aRDP client over the VPN itself, rather than Neorouter Remote.

U70%
by U####:

Any way to make it persistent and log in automatically? Its VERY annoying to have to launch the app and log in manually whenever I want to use it. Thanks.

Works like a charm

Since upgrading to Lollipop on my GS5, i could no longer connect the client. When asked if I trust the app, the OK button cannot be clicked; only cancel can be clicked. It worked mere days ago on the Lollipop beta I was testing. Turns out, the official Lollipop ROM has "tapjacking" protection. It will only allow users to click OK on securty settings if it detects no overlays on the screen. I was using Twilight display app. Disabled it, clicked OK, reenabled twilight. All good!

Absolutely brilliant app and works flawlessly. However, this is for people who understand networking or at least read manuals!

C70%
by C####:

It's like Hamachi for your android phone. Requires a little bit of technical knowledge to get up and running but is extremely helpful.

C70%

It's a very useful piece of code.Wonderful to ssh servers in networks with closed ports.

F70%

Not a vpn client. Should be clear about that up front. I don't control my company network.

C70%

Is install to SD an option? This is a big app...

C70%

No instructions at all. Takes you to a webpage that doesn't open on Firefox, Opera, Dolphin, or stock. Doesn't open on Windows or Linux either.

L70%

Running on Android 4x, the app is very similar to the original version of Hamachi (before LogMeIn bought it). Together with VNC, it makes for a very nice, and secure remote access system. I've got the Windows version installed on a number of distant family computers, for those occasional tech support calls. It's a nice replacement for Hamachi. I like it better than Teamviewer too.

This new update is great. This product just improve continually! Thanks NeoRouter!!

Y70%
by Y####:

It works quite well for me, I think some of the criticisms here are a bit harsh. Anyway the only hiccup I find is that whenever the 3G connection drops out, the NeoRouter application freezes and CPU utilization jumps to 50% or higher (even after the 3G connection is restored). So it needs some work to better handle dropouts in the connection. It will deserve 5 stars once that issue is addressed!

NR is excellent with one small problem - if left idling in the background more than a few minutes, it dies. That is, since it isn't running as an Android Service (rather as a normal application) it will constantly die when you aren't using it. With any other app this would be fine, but it's a VPN - once you pick an aapp to forward the traffic to, it will ALWAYS be in the background. Thus, you can't use it for more than 15-20 minutes at a time without relaunching and reconnecting over and over and over. I contacted their support about this and they sent me a build to test. It seems to have increased the time before the system kills it to around 40-50 minutes, but NR still doesn't run as a service, so it still dies. I suspect they merely tried to increase the process priority - which is a stop-gap solution that I could've told them wouldn't work. THIS NEEDS TO RUN AS A SYSTEM SERVICE, OR IT WILL DIE, PERIOD. Until this is fixed I am using ConnectBot and manually tunneling apps one at a time. The setup is a pain, but I can run them for 3 or 4 hours at a time and they never get killed because, with ConnectBot, the system treats SSH runnels as a SERVICE...

Company stated: "ZERO CONFIG product" this Neorouter. This is simply no true. I read ther 56 pages manual and it is no way how average person may configure this software to work. I am 17 years with PCs and their "manual" is nonunderstandable. They stated: "set up port forwarding at your router, he, he, he". For common folk it is end station. Folks with IT university may success, common folks not.
