About Night Clock

DONATE version turns off button backlights.

If the background is a gradient instead of just black, you need to: turn off "Force GPU rendering" in your phone's "Developer"
settings.

To find the settings menu on S5, just hold in the multitasking key (left soft key at bottom of phone).

If you have a problem, email me! This app is intended to be used with the phone plugged in. In "dim" mode the battery will last longer, but having it on all night will drain at least half your battery if you aren't charging.

This is a simple, retro-style night clock. It will display the time in big, bold letters (three fonts and any color to choose from), along with having a built-in alarm (or you can use your stock android alarm, it it's supported). Since the screen will stay on while the application is open (unless you manually turn it off), it is highly recommended that you keep your phone plugged in to charge otherwise it will drain the battery.

Some features include:
-Silence notifications
-Tap to dim screen to lowest possible setting
-Launches when put into the multimedia dock (also has flipped mode for use without a dock)
-Font and color settings (when choosing text color, drag your finger away from the center to change transparency)
-Built in alarm (or use stock Android alarm, if your phone supports it)
-Show next alarm on clock screen

As with every Android app, there's an obvious bug. This one is that you can not enter an alarm time by the numbers on the keyboard, even though it appears to offer that option. You must use the +/- buttons. 5 stars when that is fixed and an auto-activate when charger is plugged in after programmable time (say, midnight) would be a bonus!

C70%
by C####:

Works well, have used it for a long time. Like the way you can mute the phone when app active. My app doesn't toggle between dim and bright anymore which is a nuisance. I liked that feature. Would give 5 stars if that feature worked on my Galaxy S3.

This is my favorite night clock app so far. I would pay for the upgraded version, but it would be a waste since I can't access the menu to adjust any settings. Any hope of getting an update?

C70%
by C####:

I loved this night clock for quite awhile. Then they changed it to where you have to upgrade to paid version to turn off background lighting on buttons. I hate the background lights. So here I go to Uninstall this app and try a different one.

No menu access unless you have a dedicated hardware button for the menu or you have the on screen navigation bar like Nexus 5 and 6. Not that hard to fix if using android studio. You should should consider an option where the clock size is smaller and every minute or so moves or let the user decide this interval the this is for people who's phones have an AMOLED screen as having a static image for a long causes screen burn. And I doubt people want a faded number always on their screen like watermark

It's not usable with newer phones. Can it be fixed? Guess not? Oh, well, it was a great app while it worked. Nougat update now allows menu!

This app doesn't work on the Samsung S7 edge, there isn't a button to get into the settings. Pity I loved this app on all my other phones.

I think this is a great app - does just want I need, no more no less. Ah, except for one small thing. While I have it docked at my bedside and the clock is needed there, I also dock it on my desk, where I don't need it on - its screen dimming interferes with incoming messages. It would therefore be good if one could turn OFF the automatic launching on docking. Still, I'm happy to give it 5 stars for it's other functionality and simplicity.

This is fantastic little clock app, one of the few that will have a completely dark background provided your phone screen is capable. However, this app has never been updated for newer versions of Android which get rid of the physical menu button. The last update was in 2014. And without that button, you have no way to change any settings on many newer phones. That's a shame. If it had a soft menu key, it would be perfect. It is still good on older phones, though.

This is a great app. I have the droid turbo and I can't seem to get this app to work well in landscape mode. I have a first gen galaxy tab and it works great on it. There are no adds and you can even change the color of the clock. I really liked that. So if they fix the landscape problem I am having, that would be great.

X70%
by X####:

Love this clock. No bells and thrills. Just a nice clock. The light dims to a very comfortable level so it doesn't glare at you at night. I suppose it has an alarm on it. I never really checked. I guess I am one of the fortunate few that has an internal alarm. I can tell myself when I want to wake up and that's when I wake up. This clock may not be for everyone but for me it is perfect

X70%
by X####:

Very simple. It shows a clock with big legible numbers, and toggles brightness with one touch. In regards to other reviews I've read, I have no landscape issues, and for Samsung, long press the task button for the menu. I wish it had a warning when the phone wasn't plugged in, but other than that, it's exactly what it should be.

X70%
by X####:

This is a great clock app for nighttime viewing. In response to some of the reviews complaining about being unable to access the settings, on my Galaxy S7, you can get to these by pressing and holding the "back" soft key at the bottom right of the phone. Other phones may use a different "press and hold" button, so you might have to experiment with this. The settings give you access to changing the default clock color among other things. The clock should be used plugged in to conserve battery life. The one touch dim feature which makes the clock legible at night without it being too glaring is an excellent feature. A great app overall!

Good looking digital clock. But the color picker is a pain to use, it's so small,...to use it you have to cover it with your finger and because of that you can't clearly see the preview color...which is understandably not very helpfull. Hopefully the author will fix this. Make the color picker larger or give us RGB sliders for control.

X70%
by X####:

This works as you would expect. It displays a full screen digital display of the time with color options and an alarm. The large font numbers are easy to see. My only complaint is that when the alarm goes off, the Snooze versus Dismiss options are in small font using the same color. So for anyone who uses glasses, it's hard to tell the difference.

Simple bedside low-light, but easily visible, clock that combines an alarm function. Seems to be very reasonable on battery use. I'm in a hotel which has a clock with no backlight, so found Night Clock - just what I needed. Thanks -I'm donating.

Nice night time clock app. Only drawback is it is literally just a clock. You can't make any changes or use any other functions because there are no menus or settings buttons. At least none that work on Samsung Note 4.

This was my favorite go to clock app. However, now that I have a new galaxy S7 phone I can't play with the options like colour and font. Disappointing because there were no others I liked as much..

Exactly what I needed; I just upgraded to the donate version. My only complaint is that the color picker is very hard to use; maybe it's my phone (Moto G 2015).

X70%

Works when the screen is locked! Nice red tone not too vibrant. Also you can tap the screen to toggle between bright and dim. Would get 5* if there was an alarm!

K70%
by K####:

Nice clock but needs updating. The colour selector is obviously set to x number of pixels size and as phone resolutions go up, the selector has become almost unusable as it's so small. I emailed the developer a year ago, maybe I'll get a reply in the 22nd century, haven't had one yet... FWIW, the menu buttons are not illuminated on the Galaxy S5 and S7 edge on the free version.

Careful! This set two daily alarms somehow and I spent a month trying to find them to turn them off! Also uses a whole lot of battery when not plugged in. I noticed a big improvement in battery after turning off the alarms as well.

Had used this alarm for months with out fail on my HTC one 8m and it was awesome. Set alarms for everything and the beside clock is the best because you can see it in the middle of the night but is super dim if you want it to be. After a while the alarm became unreliable. It got to where the set alarm would not go off until I messed with the phone. This morning it made me run late to work! I am dumping today.

I was tired of squinting ta see the time now i can see it whitout my glasses Herraaa.

No option to come on automatically when docked or plugged in, no option to start as daydream app. Bloody shame, that. Makes an app with so much potential quite worthless.

Low light can be left on all night and not get blinded. No annoying adverts. Thank you very much!!!

The newer Galaxy devices are not coming with menu buttons so the apps need to have them built in. On my GS6 Active this app has the menu button but not on my Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 so I am stuck with the default option till this is fixed

The red color is perfect for nighttime use and the one-tap toggle between bright and dim is very convenient. I'll read a bit before turning out the light with it bright, and then just tap the screen to dim it when I'm ready to sleep. The other feature I love is that it stays logged on. On waking up I just tap the Home button and I'm ready to check email and news.

Very good night clock but don't use the alarm. Text book example of a programmer adding too much complexity to a program to the point of forgetting to consider the user experience. I love this night clock because its a perfect clock for a dark bedroom at night. Although you can change the color of the display, this feature is nearly impossible to use due to poor human interface. The alarm situation is a nightmare because you can accidentally set a bunch of unwanted alarms and then when they go off you can get lost in the program in an attempt to turn the alarm off. In one case I could not turn the alarm off at all. I was sleepy and trying to read the help while the alarm was going off, and that still did not result in the alarm stopping. I had to do a hard power off of the device. One rule for alarm clock programmers: If the alarm is sounding, always have a visible icon that turns off the alarm.

I love this and used it on my old phone. Sadly there is no access to the menu with colour change and alarm in lollipop. I wouldn't consider donating now. I am struck with red and no alarms.

Love the app and luckily a loud vibrate is all I need to wake up but the truth is even if I select a music ring tone, it still does the beep beep one. If I use my phone's alarm instead, I lose out on the very features which prompted me to download the app in the first place. From what I read the paid version won't fix this either so why bother downloading it? Fix the ringtone problem for S6 and you'd be get a 5 star rating from me as well as a purchase!

I love it. I just wish the digital clock would appear automatically for locked screen. Instead I have to click on that link each time.

Great for weekend/holiday away on my current phone (saves carry another device). Also using it on a old phone for a extra clock at home.

Largest display available. Works well for poor eyesight. Many color options. No frills just a big clock. Make sure your phone is plugged in. Does not go to menu on my Galaxy S5. Would be very happy if this was fixed.

The only request I have is that it should seem more centered on the screen. It's aligned on the right side and looks cramped & like it was an accident. :/ then I'll do 5 stars :)

My phone (gs5, lollipop) keeps flashing in my face at night cause this app can't seem to mute what's app notifications even though I have that option ticked in settings!!! Please conquer what's app !!!!!

Readable fonts, fills screen, and no fluff to this simple clock app. I wanted a simple clock app that looked like a clock. I didn't want a day or date displayed- just time. This does all that and does it well. There can be elegance in simplicity and this app has it.

I play in several different bands and I needed a large clock that would stay on the screen. This does that perfectly. Give it menu access for my Note 4 and I'll give it 5 stars.
