Rock band was formed since 1970 in Topeka, Kansas, United States, with the genre of rock music rhythm, rock art and progressive rock. The name of the band "Kansas" is taken from the city where the band was formed in Kansas City, USA.

The initial formation of Kansas band personnel has 2 vocalists named Lynn Meredith and Joel Warne, 2 keyboards named Don Montre and Dan Wright, and a saxophonist named Larry Backer.

Kansas band band had ups and downs in the activity of playing music, they began active from 1973 until 1984 then had vacum for 1 year and started active again in 1985 until now. His musical style is often defined as a mixture of American rock boogie with a complex type. The band began to gain popularity from 2006 to 2014.

The violin sound played by Robby Steinhardt dominates this band of kansas, his music often grouped into heartland rock that transcends jazz and classical and is heavily influenced by the progressive violin sound of rock from Robby Steinhardt.

The song "Dust in the wind" was certified 5 times platinum by the RIAA in 2001.

In 1979, the song "Monolith" produced from the studio album "Point of know return" made it into the top 40 and the single "People of the south wind", which shows the meaning of "Kanza" that is Native American, and became the name of the band. The album received Livgren's platinum Awards and was featured in the "Kansas History Museum".
