What are users saying about New Civil Engineer (NCE)

Why would you need to cancel the printed NCE subscription in order to even try out the digital version...? With all the bad reviews that's a big risk.

Z70%
by Z####:

Crashing on opening after uninstalling and installing again.

Logged in, read article, app restarts and "checks for new content" sending me back to home screen. Nexus 5, Android 5.0

L70%
by L####:

Every update means I have to sign in again=Irritating. Not Slick=Irritating for an Engineer's news and reference site. If I engineered in an equivalent way this app functions I would never work again! Better than 1* only just about a 2*

B70%
by B####:

Come NCE and the app developer, I have been trying to login in app but without success. You've got to make this first humble step right and easy before thinking of doing anything else! I don't know how my ICE account is assciated/linked to the NCE; I paid my annual sub but the app just does not want to know it! I can manage to logon to the NCE website but with exactly the same login Info I just cannot! Yeah if it cannot be resolved just leave it alone then...I can see the frustrations from other users.

Latest updates haven't solved crash on opening problem - simply doesn't work

Q70%
by Q####:

need option to save articles and reduce font size

C70%
by C####:

After a few uninstalls and reinstalls i still have no downloaded content. "Download failed." The sister magazine The Architects Journal works a treat yet NCE doesn't. Dont quite get it...?

Q70%
by Q####:

Why can I not have a monthly copy to read over a coffee while being able to read the latest news on a packed train on my phone? You put so much effort in the print edition but coerce me into one or the other. Why? Using your erblassen instead defeating the objectives.

T70%
by T####:

I use this app because I travel a lot, but I am afraid I prefer the paper version. It is slow to load, and the menu structure combined with the perplexing horizontal/vertical scrolling system is not helpful. I would prefer a more comprehensive menu on the home page, because I find I simply miss articles. And where are letters?

X70%
by X####:

This app has always been slow and ponderous, but now it will not even load! How long will it take for NCE to get it right?

X70%
by X####:

Won't start most of the time

X70%
by X####:

Apparently it is still being developed - but after how long! In my humble opinion it is not even close to being a useful app - it is slow, irritatingly pretentious with counter intuitive menus and layout. Clearly the many successful weekly magazines in app format out there - with easy to read designs, quick updates - have got it all wrong and the concept needs to be reinvented by people who clearly do not know what good looks like. Seriously, how do we get an ICE members' publication fit for purpose?

Q70%
by Q####:

Good

X70%
by X####:

Unbelievably useless. Considering kids can make decent apps in their bedrooms this app is an embarrassment. Take it off the market and come back with something that doesn't shame the profession. And why do you need in-app purchases?

X70%
by X####:

Even though I've changed my details with the ICE that I only want digital copy, still no full access to the app

X70%
by X####:

Better than before, but freezes often and would be better if it updated automatically over wifi instead of every time the app is opened

X70%
by X####:

Android 5.0.1 Nexus 10. Keeps bombing out to update checking screen. Is unusable. Regret transferring to digital subscription.

X70%

Keep crashing...

A70%
by A####:

Yes it looks better than the old one BUT it still stops annoyingly when I'm trying to read our navigate, making me reinstall from scratch. Plus, where on earth have the letters pages gone? Using Nexus 7 2012 running Android 4.4

C70%
by C####:

Logged in, read article, app restarts and "checks for new content" sending me back to home screen. Nexus 5, Android 5.0

K70%
by K####:

...not very sophisticated yet

C70%
by C####:

• Good simple layout with easy access to articles • Free from adverts • The quick select thumbnails (bottom of screen) are great and seem to be more reliable than the side menu (accessed from the top left). The side options are slow to load on my Samsung S5 • On a 5.5” screen the PDF downloads are challenging to read – I will try other PDF readers – but the ability to email to my tablet will make that better. Not too big a file size either at 7-8Mb. • Articles are easy to read • Ability to change font size is good. Overall much better.

E70%
by E####:

(FYI) Zero star. It doesn't let me login on this app... I think the old rubbish app was better after all ...lol

E70%
by E####:

Looks good on my phone, much has improved. Like the news format and having the weekly magazines in the library as pdf. Interface menu could be better. Search does not work properly.

C70%
by C####:

Login says nce isn't covered by my subscription but the old app still works...
