About Celestial

Celestial is a complete package for celestial navigation on your Android device. It can perform celestial sight reductions, calculate fixes, present them visually, manage sights on multiple trips and assist in sight planning. It also includes a complete Almanac of the Sun, Moon, planets and stars. All this for less than the price of the Nautical Almanac for a single year!

In detail:
- Supports quick sight reduction. Enter all sight values to quickly calculate an intercept or to double-check your own manual sight reduction.
- Includes a comprehensive trip manager that allows you to manage sights taken during a trip. Keep your sights with you forever!
- Multiple sights can be grouped and averaged together and a fix can be calculated. Lines of Position (LOP's) and fixes can be plotted on a virtual plotting sheet.
- Running fixes are supported!
- Includes a star finder and times of rise/set phenomena. Plan your sights and be on deck when it is time.
- Includes the complete Almanac of the Sun, Moon, planets, 57 navigational stars, Aries and Polaris for the years 1980-2099.
- Context-sensitive screen help for every screen so you always know what the intended function of the software is.

All sight reduction algorithms are based on the algorithms described in the Nautical Almanac (Sight Reduction Procedures). Celestial object positions are predicted using software from the US Naval Observatory.

Please make celestial body bearing displayed with at least one digit decimal precision, it is essential for compass error checks. Otherwise great app.

Suddenly stopped working on my nexus

Nexus 7 updated to Android 5.02 and now the program opens then immediately closes. Developer did not reply to email. Don't count on it for navigation.

Great app. Might not use often but great app

Really cool. Does everything you need for celestial except take the sights. Only thing I would like to see added is zoom for the plot.

D70%
by D####:

What a great piece of software. Having written a sight reduction program in Basic in the 70s I really appreciate the ease of use of this app. It takes away most of the tedium between taking a series of sights and getting a fix. I look forward to once again using my sextant on passage and not relying on GPS all the time. One useful addition would be a printable user guide.

"Five stars when it starts working again." This is now! Great app for navigation. Verified on ICS and JB. Thanks, Navimatics!

Would be great to have an addition to give Taz for celestial bodies with A, B & C for gyro error as it's done every watch on board.

U70%

Could be a little more user friendly. Might consider a light (red) for reading sextant. Distance from gps position would be useful for beginners to gauge their accuracy.

Looks excellent, but takes huge amount of space in in main memory. Needs to be able to install on SD card.

What I have been waiting for! So much easier than the old manual method. Perfect on EVO.

Used to be great - now doesn't work at all Simply dies immediately upon invocation. This is on Nexus 7, latest JB. Used to work fine though... Hope the developers will address the problem - this app wasn't cheap. Needless to say, problem report has been submitted - now waiting for response. Five stars when it starts working again.
