About National Gallery of Canada
The National Gallery of Canada, in Ottawa, is home to the most comprehensive collection of Canadian Art in the world, as well as impressive Contemporary, European and Modern art collections. Sponsored by Bell, the mobile application highlights 52 Canadian artworks providing descriptions and facts about details in the works, artist biographies, interviews, videos, maps, a glossary of key art terms and information about the Gallery.
The interactive bilingual (English/French) app builds on the traditional museum audio tour, providing users with enhanced access to all new content on the collection, giving them choice and control over their visitor experience, and engaging them in looking and learning.
The Canadian artworks featured on the app range from historical sculptures from Québec to modern and conceptual paintings. The audio interviews are by a variety of the Gallery’s professional staff and the video interviews showcase the artists whose artworks are being featured. There is a wide selection of images, including photographs of the artists and some conservation and restoration procedures. The details feature allows users to zoom in and learn about the ideas, approaches and stories behind them. Art terms are defined in the glossary, while the map allows users to pinpoint where an artist lived or worked.
Share some of these artworks through an e-card, Facebook or Twitter.
The Audio, Video, Details, Map and Share features in the application require WiFi or Network access.
