About File Shortcut

It is an app to create a shortcut to open the file.
You can choose any files such as images, videos, or PDF.

Caution

The point of tablets is that they put capable computers in the hands of non-computer people. File shortcut seems to work fine. Then a week later it is impossible to work out how to work it again. Plain English help in terms of pressing things? From the launcher? huh? Choose this app from launcher apps. huh? Say that again in user English?

Took awhile to figure it out, even reading instructions (they can be written simpler and clearer) but once I did I found this app to be just what I needed, a means to add a shortcut on my note 4 home screen to a video on my phone. Thanks.

In my opinion, this functionality should really be a part of the Android operating system. But, as it's not, this app is as unobtrusive as possible. It needs to be used together with a file manager application. Of course, a file manager should also be part of the stock Android installation!

On first use, I opened the Settings, ?, and Info menus, but the app locked up right there. Would not let me return to the main screen to do anything. Have to uninstall, good luck.

For those of us who download magazines, PDFs, Excel workbooks and Word documents [to our Droids] it saves having to dig through app folders to get to the file you want. The best part, for PDF magazines, it saves and reopens to exactly where you left off reading! HUGE help! It may be a little tricky for the less tech-inclined people, but even those people would likely give this 4 stars once they got the hang of it.

A70%
by A####:

The only drawback - the file selection from the app itself seems broken (the built in browser shows folders (like downloads) to be empty, and when I asked it to use the system one it did, but I wasn't able to select files, they were greyed out). The simple solution is to share files for the app from the file manager of choice - this worked well for me :)

Used to love this app... simple, free, and worked. Now whenever I try to set anything, it flashes and no shortcut appears (just as other reviewers said). Whata shame~

Y70%
by Y####:

This app is great if you're tired of having to look for your files. I'd like to see the ability to update already created shortcuts, but that's minor. You can always delete and recreate a shortcut that needs changing. I'd have given it 5 stars, but the app is not totally intuitive and it lack documentation.

by Y####:

This is a great and useful app widget. But on the Samsung T231 all the shortcut pictures are replaced with the generic green arrow everytime the tablet is restarted or when a system update is made. On my other devices the pictures seem to hold well.

Y70%
by Y####:

Doesn't do anything? Just opens and let's you move between its own screens, that's it. Waste of time.

Works like it is supposed to. Only thing I wanted to note is that you should make sure your default program for the file you are making a shortcut for is set other wise it will it may not open the file and when you go to reopen it will say "already open". I just reset my phone when this happens and it clears. No complaints other than that which is avoidable.

Y70%
by Y####:

Not working. Says "Unknown Error". Earlier used to work well. Developers please look into it.

Z70%
by Z####:

When I choose a picture from my gallery it says 'stopped working'. 0 functionality. I hated it.

H70%
by H####:

It was a great app until I had to factory reset, now it says, "file shortcut has stopped working." 4 stars before, now 1 star.

Q70%
by Q####:

Does what it says intuitively, but BEWARE: when I selected Settings option 'Hide from Launcher' it deleted all my previously created shortcuts. Lots of work recreating them all!

GREAT APP, BUT THERE'S A CAVEAT! This app is perfect for setting up quick access to any files, even on your SD Card. However, this app should never be MOVED to the SD Card, as the next reboot will replace any special icons for the shortcuts with the generic bent arrow icon that the app uses, and all shortcut labels will be defaulted to the words "File Shortcut", which pretty much defeats the purpose of this app, as every shortcut looks the same and is labeled the same. Moving the app back to the SYSTEM storage won't fix the problem until after all shortcuts are re-built, but once that is done, future re-boots will not alter the icons or the labels,

Q70%
by Q####:

It is just perfect for creating a shortcut icon to a file. You install the application, define the settings you want, and that is all. From that moment on, when you are viewing a file and you want to create a shortcut for it you just click on share and then select this application. A small form appears that lets you change the name and icon for instance and that is all. A must have. Thanks!

Q70%
by Q####:

Takes a bit of understanding to figure out how to make the icons on the home screen, but once you do, it's a lifesaver! I would recommend an option from opening the app of choosing the file then creating the icon, instead of having to export the file to the app (it's confusing to a number of people).

I can only link to one file. Every shortcut I create links to the same file, usually the last file I created a shortcut for. Just tried Create Shortcut and I don't have this problem

The thumbnail image and title you pick out sporadically resets to default so if you have numerous shortcuts they all look the same and have the same generic title "file shortcut"

This little (thank you) app did exactly what I wanted, so easily, using minimal resources and no funky permissions. Being able to create a shortcut to a pdf via 'sharing' in the file manager was a better method than I hoped for. Easy. Light. Perfect. Thanks dev.

App works as advertised. BUT, every time I have to power down the phone or pull the battery, any document shortcuts that I created disappear from the desktop. I have emailed the developer 5 times about this problem & they refuse to acknowledge or answer any support emails. So, a good app but the developer refuses to offer any support. It would also be very helpful if even simple app instructions were available (they are currently not).

This is really simple and easy to use. I love the fact you can use your own picture as an icon. Instructions are bad but previous reviews can easily help. Quick and simple when you have done it once. Makes your tablet really professional with clients. One touch and your straight into presenting.

I worked on a story I am writing and I tried to upload it to drive. The app said it couldn't be shared and then I tried to save and the app said cannot save. Then I finally got it to save and exited. I tried to get back in and it said somethings wrong and closed the app. Good bye three pages of my story and thanks a lot app dev. Wish he would do something about it but it won't happen.

Siimple, light weight and easy to use. Since all I want is just to create file shortcut, this is perfect.

But remember, it only work with files that are stored on your device, so does not apply to any cloud service folders (Drive, Dropbox, etc).

Works brilliantly. Simple to use. Reliable. Works as promised.

It also has a feature to kill the process after opening a file. This means it's never running in the background. Be careful not to enable it until after you've made the links. Good stuff!

Just what I needed, even let's you set a custom icon or SHARE a file from your file browser to create a shortcut.

Question: Once the shortcut is created ...is it possible to rename the shortcut without removing it and re-short-cutting" it?

This is the one what I'm looking for a long time. Tqsm to developer for making this works. Now I can manage my spreadsheets on my home screen.

Wanted an app to create shortcuts for certain Pictures & Videos and this app did the trick just fine for me. Thanks Developer. Just Hope you'll keep updating it for subsequent Android versions and in particular functional on the Samsung Galaxy S IV, V, VI, VII etc.

I recommended this app to a customer with a very specific technical request. It turns out it was exactly what she needed, and I now use it as well.

Instructions not too clear for this app. To use, select a home screen where you have room for shortcut you are going to create. Hold down on screen and select Widgets, then select File Shortcut from the Widgets. After you drag the widget to the screen you will then be taken to a screen where you can find the file by using File Manager(or other if you have more than one) or Gallery. You can then rename it and change the icon. Great app in my opinion - just needs a decent help file or above instructions.

I wanted shortcuts to all my Final Fantasy games but needed to create shortcuts to the gameboy advance games (FF 1,2,5,6)... FF 3 and 4 are android and 7,8and9 are Epsxe which can create shortcuts. This app solved my problem and I now have a Homescreen completely dedicated to Final Fantasy !!!

This is fantastic!!! I have been going mad to try to copy and paste a movie from File Manager to my homescreen and could not do it. This app is so simple and just so amazing. I was pleasantly surprised that once I had clicked and chosen 'share' in File Manager - then clicked on 'File Shortcut' in the box, that all I had to do was to click 'ok' when your screen came up, and there was my movie/photograph on my home screen. No setup to have to work through, as it was all automatic. Voila !! Thank you so much!!
