TextWarrior for Android
TextWarrior is a text editor that rethinks how editing can be done on a touch screen. Annoyed at accidentally moving the cursor or bringing up the virtual keyboard when scrolling? Tired of doing finger gymnastics to position the cursor? TextWarrior lets you customize text editing to the way you want it to be and more.
Besides all the usual features of text editors, TextWarrior offers 5(!) unique ways to fine-tune the cursor position. Especially helpful for those who are using devices without a hardware keyboard or stylus. While we are at it, why not add syntax highlighting for programming languages and a slideable clipboard. TextWarrior is a community-driven project. Usability is at the forefront and if you have any suggestions or feedback to making text editing easier, drop us an email. Android Market comments cannot be replied to.
Compatibility note: If the Shift and Alt keys do not seem to work on your physical keyboard, try holding the keys down as you would on a regular computer keyboard.
Edits text. Menus pop up from the bottom. An HTML help page is available. Has several ways to move the cursor the default being a miniature trackball. If a keyboard incompatibility occurs try Jelly Bean 4.3 Keyboard or Smart Keyboard.
Ask. MY wife., I use it for story file downloading. It's good! Work done on Toshiba tablet. Sometimes I see multiple copies, kickback from numeric to alpha kybds, & blinking words in prediction word bar. BUT, I Love It!! PS: file size = 1-2megs, cut&paste = 400kb.
Edits text only. Has an extensive popup menu system. As YOU chose the filename extension all sorts of programming files can be created. Not otimized for any particular programming language. Where good for text files, stories, articles etc. May be incompatible with Google Keyboard. Suggested keyboards: Jelly Bean Keyboard 4.3, Hacker's Keyboard (very small footprint), Smart Keyboard. Has five cursor moving aids.
Edits pure text. If keyboard incompatibilities occur try Jellybean Keyboard 4.3, Smart Keyboard or hacker's keyboard with this app. This is a general text editor. It expects text and saves text. Since you supply the extension when saving a file, Text Warrior is excellent for programing languages For RTF and word documents use Text Maker mobile.
Awesome features and also fast BUT literally useless to me without ability to edit ROOT files because i still have to keep multiple text editors installed.. therefore Text Warrior will never make the cut. :'-(
I have used Text Warrior on several Tablets. It has performed flawlessly on all of them. With the Android virtual keyboard it is easy to check spelling. It works fine with a hard keyboard. To access options and settings press the three vertical dots on the bottom of the display. Text Warrior is the best editor for large text files. If you are using another editor you will want to add this editor anyway and keep your other editor. It should be remembered that this app is for text files. It is NOT a word processor. If you are writing HTML text it will work, it just won't highlight. Hopefully the developer will add HTML highlighting. When saving a file the first time you are in complete control of the filename extension but you must remember to supply the extention. Letting you supply the extention makes it possible to edit and create all sorts of programming files. These are usually text files. With Android 4.2.2 the Google Keyboard backspace key does not work properly. One solution is to uninstall updates to Google Keyboard. The other is a third party keyboard. For large Tablets use Hacker's keyboard. For phones and small tablets use Jellybean Keyboard or Smart Keyboard.
Option menus and text selection could use some polish but it is a rock solid editor. Onscreen "trackpad" is awesome.
Undocumented, unsupported
Wonderful app
Caps lock fail Looked promising but when 'Aa' is active it never switches to small letters after the first. All then capitalized = annoying
Backspace key types previous word repeatedly, deletes some characters, then types them in again. Double tap on a word only selects one character, not the whole word. Unusable, otherwise it looks pretty cool.
Worked perfectly for me until I changed phones, now it has some unfortunate interaction with the spelling suggestion system that duplicates words when backspacing.

Text Warrior is a useful text editor. For Android 4.2 and higher it needs a third party keyboard. Hackers keyboard (free) or Smart keyboard work well. Text Warrior has powerful clipboarding features as well as built-in help.
Used to be great but will no longer paste text from other applications. Time to find a better text editor.
Zoom % jumps from 200 to 400. Should have more options in between. 250, 300, 350! Thanks for helping.
I've got an Lg L70, it seems to have this thing going on where when i backspace to a certain point it re-copies the word i just deleted. Its frustrating as hell. I've been using this for a couple years and used this on other phones before and didn't have this problem. Normally I'd give it 5 stars. I hope if I rate low the programmers will see this and help me out with my dilemma
It's ads free, what gives it a great advantage over others. The interface is clean and well done. On the down side, it suffers from the same problem almost all text editors for Android do (included here the paid ones): it cannot search through UTF-16 little-endian without BOM files (such as VCF generated by some applications).
What is this nonsense? I can't believe people hail this monstrosity as "the best editor". It looks ugly, has a serious and obvious backspacing bug, and hasn't been updated in more than 2 years. And I've only used it for about 2 minutes :/

This is good if you have to type a lot of stuff. Update...one of only a few apps i always take from phone to phone. Does anyone know what the box in the bottom right corner does?
Love the app, but please add some word wrap. Please please please
Great! I've tried so many editors before this one. I use with "Hacker's Keyboard" for code editing.
Landscape view eventually causes text to appear behind the keyboard and there's no way to scroll down to see what you're typing. *On Droid incredible
Apparently the dev is too retarded to try the app to the most basic feature--typing. Who knew!
Worked on a file during some otherwise idle time. Saved and removed usb device. Opened file latter to discover that entire contents of file was wiped. This after several saves editing file. Overwriting an open file with an empty file is unacceptable. Uninstalling.
While useful for what I wanted it for, Text Warrior is not compatible with my onscreen keyboard... the text that I type disappears behind the keyboard with no way to scroll down to see what I'm typing... My score will rise when some sort of work around is created.
doesn't work with SwiftKey and double-tap selection is flaky at best. was a good idea but lacks followthrough by devs.
Excellent. Needs to remember the last directory and needs a share menu
Needs support for rtf or doc files, and does not display correct characters (ex " turns into ?) in txt files. Wish I could find an actual word processor...
this would be an awesome word document app, but there are no margin settings, APA formating options, I can only use this for it's word counting abilities. Cursor is great on Asus Transformer(original) add more to this app, glad it's free. But it is surely promising.
Perfect, stores files where and how i say and works with file manager. Most traditional notepad options available. Still want NP++ but this is a 5r.
This is the best app for. Js files and others of extreme sizes, I was looking for an app like this for hours!
Easy to use. Solid app. Could use some more syntax highlighting languages (XML needed!!!).
None of the cursors allow me to highlight text effectively. Using Swype on an LG Optimus V, highlighting text is essential for correcting words.
I have used Text Warrior on four Tablets. It has performed flawlessly on all of them. I started out with a Polaroid PMID 705 seven inch tablet. I also used it on two Proscan tablets one of which has a keyboard. Finally I installed it to my Trio Stealth 10 Tablet. With the android virtual keyboard it is easy to check spelling. The app is far more versatile than meats the eye at first glance. There are no drop down menus like in Windows. Instead a pop-up menu appears across the screen when the menu key is used. The More selection selection brings up a pop-uo menu which includes a big HTML help document. Also of note is the powerful clapboarding feature and the five ways to move the cursor. I prefer trackball. Note: there is a problem with the backspace key with Google Keyboard. Use Hackers keyboard, Smart Keyboard or another third party keyboard. Uninstalling the updates on Google keyboard works with Android 4.1 and 4.2. if you turn off automatic update on Google Keyboard.
It's such a shame that it appears to be abandoned by the developer. No updates for over a year, now :(

Used to be great. Not any more. Just typed roughly 1000 words....locked my phone....opened phone.....Zero text. Nothing. No Autosaved. F All. Text Warrior? More like Text Weakling. Odd that Norman & Ravenclaw use the exact same phrase in their review!
