About Mylspot ThETA Maths I
Mylspot’s Intelligent Tutor – “The Engineering Teaching Assistant” or ThETA is now available for Engineering Mathematics - I.
ThETA has been built on Mylspot’s “Goal Oriented Learning” methodology, and guides students through the learning of a concept by solving problems in a structured step-wise manner. ThETA has also been equipped with carefully curated content emphasizing the student’s specific requirement with respect to syllabus and exams.
ThETA addresses both sides of the learning equation. On one hand, ThETA is an intelligent tutor which has been programmed to impart individualized training based on established pedagogical models, much like a very good teacher teaching one student at a time!
On the other hand, ThETA has been equipped with content that is just right for you! Each topic in the student’s syllabus is broken down into modules – each module represents a key concept within the topic. The module familiarizes the student with the key concept and presents a number of “interactive tutorials” – each interactive tutorial reflects a specific way the concept is applied in problem solving. Only such problem variations as is relevant to his/her syllabus and exams, as determined from the previous years’ question papers is presented to the student by default. The student can add on more dimensions to the content using the filter option. A large number of exercises with interactively delivered hints, reinforce the concept and all the problem variations.
Mylspot curators have selected concepts and problems after carefully examining the syllabus of various universities, as well several years of exam papers, to give the student an individualized and completely relevant study material. All problem variations within a topic are addressed through Interactive Tutorials – where ThETA leads the learner through the problem solution, one step at a time.
ThETA demystifies the problem by breaking down the problem into steps, and helps tackle it in a structured manner. The student works out the problem using pen and paper, and reports the result of the step, based on which ThETA provides corrective inputs and explanations, or progresses to the next step. Multiple solution pathways are built in, wherever possible, enabling the student to take the lead in walking the maze from problem statement to solution. Over time, working with ThETA, will also reinforce the mathematical thinking required to break down a problem into its parts, a necessary skill for most engineering jobs!
The student’s response at every step reflects his / her mastery of the specific skills related to that step, and therefore provide useful information about the student’s learning style, ability, strengths and weaknesses. TheTA is equipped with an advanced analytics engine which analyses all such responses, as well as compares them with those of peers, to present very meaningful and actionable feedback.
Don’t be misled by the ThETA’s small size. It encapsulates all content, so connectivity is required only to download the app (onetime event), and to upload analytics ( once in a while). This means that it is available anywhere, anytime- on the bus commuting to college, during a free class…
This is the first version of ThETA. The Mylspot design team is working on many more features to make ThETA an even better teacher! Also more engineering courses are under preparation and will be available soon!
