FiftyFifty Maps

(FiftyFifty Maps is a Student Project and in the Beta stage of development)

FiftyFifty Maps is a social map application built to help you find fun places to meet up halfway between you and your friend.

Using location data, FiftyFifty Maps will return businesses, like restaurants or bars, that exist near the midpoint between you, the user, and a friend that you pick. You can specify your friend's location by long pressing on the map, entering an address, or picking them out of your phones contacts.


User Interface Buttons:

Menu Button - (blue, bottom left) This brings up the slide out menu where you can clear the current search among other things.

Places Button - (red, bottom middle) This brings up a list of businesses currently being displayed on the map. More information can be found in the Places List such as the Yelp Rating and the address. To navigate to the business of your choice just click the business in the Places List.

Add Friend Button - (blue, bottom right) This button displays the two options for adding a friend to your map other than by a simple long press. These options are detailed below.


There are a few ways for you to use FiftyFifty Maps:

1. Add Friend by Long Press - With your GPS turned on, long press on a location on the map where you would like to drop a "friend pin." This "friend pin" should represent the friend that you want to meet half way with. After the "friend pin" is dropped the midpoint is calculated and local businesses (data of which are provided by Yelp) are displayed on the map around that midpoint.

2. Add Friend by Address or Business Name - With your GPS turned on, click the "Add Friend" button in the bottom right. Then click the "Search" button directly above it. A search bar will appear which you can use to search for a specific business by name eg: "The Pizza Place on Noriega" or by address.

3. Add Friend by Shared Session - This feature is only available if your friend is also a user of FiftyFifty Maps. To access this feature click the "Add Contact" button after clicking the "Add Friend" button in the bottom right. This will bring up your phone's contact list. Click the name of the friend that you would like to add. If your friend is a user of FiftyFifty Maps, then they will get an alert that you want to start a "Shared Session" with them.

Your phone's GPS must be enabled for the application to work fully.


FiftyFifty Maps started as a class project made by students of San Francisco State University and is currently in Beta. We are a small team of two new graduates. We would really appreciate any feedback on this project.
