Are you looking to expand your English vocabulary? Do you wonder how you can improve and streamline memorization of new words? Then this is a tool for you. It is based on a proven- and actually the only method that works – memorization through repetition, association and context. My English Vocabulary enables creation of small personal “word books”. A new English word can be looked up, translated to a native language of choice, and also - accompanied by a definition in English, synonyms and examples of usage that are picked up for you automatically in the WordNet lexical database. The word can then be associated with an image of a user’s choice (a variety is offered to choose from), and given additional contextual sentences or expressions that are special and therefore will be remembered via the association.
After the word has been saved to your personal word book, it is ready to be learned. Read your personal word book sequentially or employ various views of the word book as Flash Cards. Use English words, or their translations, or definitions, or associated images, or pronunciations on your Flash Cards and play a shuffle game with them. Recall the word “carrot” by looking at an image of an orange vegetable or recall its spelling by listening to the pronunciation or by looking at the definition that says “nutritious vegetable high in Vitamin A and orange in color”. If you had associated “carrot” with a contextual sentence such as “Carrot soup is my favorite”, then the flash card will turn up as “***** soup is my favorite” and you are likely to answer correctly on the first try and remember the word “carrot” forever.
