It's a good initiative, but needs some adjusting. For the UK, the numbers grade is a lot less important than the degree classification (first, 2:1, 2:2 etc) as that is how your degree is judged. For the US, there are unis which have more than 4.0 as the max GPA (weirdos, but there are a few!) I would like to see a source for the equivalencies, some I have seen are a bit off.
