MRCOOL WiFi Remote for Android
Rarely works data time outs. A complete waste of time. Great ac with a crappy app. Please fix this
Needs lots of work; not anywhere near 100% functional. Wants permissions access to camera, microphone, phone calls and SD card storage. Why does a WiFi remote need access to anything but my WiFi network? I was able to install on a Note 4 with Android 6.0.1. I revoked all the permissions after I installed the app and connected to the mini split unit. This has not affected functionality that I can tell; it works equally bad before and after revoking all of the permissions. Our Mr Cool unit is the 2nd gen 36k btu DIY model mini split. It connected on the 1st try, although app function leaves a lot to be desired. Each time the app is opened, login is required. Then, the unit has to be selected, and it takes a minute to connect. I got errors every time, although eventually connects. Once connected, basic remote functions work correctly, like temperature and fan speed. More complex functions return an error. I really wish these worked, especially the "status" and energy usage features. I use the "follow me" feature on the included remote control, if I adjust the temperature using this app, it turns "follow me" off, and it can only be turned back on with the remote. The last time I tried to use this app, I could not connect to the unit. It says "offline" and I have no idea why, or how to bring it back online. And honestly, I haven't bothered trying to, this app isn't worth the time and frustration. I really like our Mr Cool mini split, but I'm very disappointed with this app. With such a small percentage of functionality, I don't think it's right to even advertise these as WiFi. Not until it actually works. Someone at Mr Cool needs to work on this app every day until it's functional, or hire out the work to a competent programmer, seriously. Without a functional app, the included remote control is the only way to control the mini split. As far as I can find, there is no wired (or wireless) remote thermostat option, and Mr Cool has not responded to my email asking about availability of, or compatible with, any remote thermostats.
Doesn't work, Mr. COOL needs to go to school, so he can engineer a tool that won't make him look like a fool. Clyde da Glide Frazier...
Will not work, crashed and I removed, excellent a/c, app is a disaster.
You have to do the first setup in the iPhone app. After that, it will work for controlling temp and mode only. Other remote control features do not work. Some of the advanced features work on the iPhone app, but not the basic bottom buttons like swing mode. I like that I can control the temp and mode remotely so that when I go to the room this controls, it will be at the temperature I want. That's really all I need it for, so I guess is worthy of 3 stars for me. Just hard to setup since you need idevice.
UPDATE: So here's the fix that worked for me guys. I used my old Samsung galaxy s4 which is running Android 5.0.1. when I attempted to connect with my Nexus 6p no luck but on my Samsung s4 the first attempt was success. 1ST REVIEWTried on 4 different Android devices. The developer of this application should be fired.
The developer should be embarrassed producing such a terrible non loading and operating software. Deserves 0 stars!!!
Its a shame that this company actually markets wifi connectivity with their products. Unable to even get past the 'creat account' screen without errors. Why even bother guys?
Got it to say 'connect in time'. But nothing else aside from crashes. Really wish it worked easily. To get it working, I had to do the setup on an iPad. Once that was done, the Android app is working fine.
Laughable.
Set ut up with Android v5, running app on both v5 and v6 after setup. Worked on Samsung Note, HTC One M8 and Samsung S5, thanks
Doesn't support Android 6.0 and up???? Seriously???? So let me just get an older phone, geez. Bought this unit because of the WiFi, ridiculous.
Do not download this app expecting it to work it does not and will not.
Just like everyone else I couldn't get it to work.
Tried for 30 minutes nothing I can do will connect the unit to WiFi.
The app repeatedly says that my qr code is illegal and will not connect. This is disappointing as the main reason I bought this u it was because of the app. I really hope you guys fix your product.
First thing is the WIFI adapter wasn't shipped with my unit. It took several weeks to get it and I can't get it to connect. What a waste of time. Piece of trash.
Waste of time.

It takes many tries to pair the unit with the network but once you do this it works ok. Be sure to have the ac unit in AP mode before scanning the QR code or you'll get "Invalid QR code" error. The "check feature" of the app does not work on my android phone. Also the turbo function in heat mode does not work even though this works with the standard remote control. Make sure also your login email doesn't have any spaces at the end or you'll get "Invalid parameter" error.
