Mountain Project for Android
Here i clicked it. You have good content, but horrible app/interface. Please open up your api and let competent people develop this app, to benefit the whole climber community. And please don't naively think having a button can get your app a 5 star review. A good experience is a more sure fire path.
Could use some work in space mgmt. It is still taking a lot of space on internal storage even after moving it to sdcard... contributes to me running out of space. UI needs lotttttssss of work. Limited search and filtration capabilities. Tick summary seems only accessible online.
For example: the map is incredibly different to zoom in on. Once you're zoomed in in, if you lock or rotate your screen it zooms back out. If you tap on an area, you still have to click details to see what's in that area, even though the area circles don't match up. You need to push 1000 buttons to find information on a route. It's difficult to submit information. This app needs a redesign, you're funded by ads and Black Diamond, that shouldn't be an issue.
Could have better UI. Also the organization of areas could be more intuitive. But still, it's free now so you can't complain too much. Oh wait, it's the internet. :-P
Lots of useful info but clumsy to navigate. There is a bug in the Android version that causes the app to crash when viewing photos without wifi/data
All always resets to home screen after I lock my phone, requiring navigating back to the route you are looking at. Freezes up all the time. Annoyingly complicated interface. Comments 'show more' button doesn't show up most of the time. Route FA info not present. Comments for areas and photos in comments do not show up. Please work on these things! I praise the developers for making this app, but it seems like updates haven't fixed any problems. My 2 cents anyways.
It takes some time getting used to using the app. It isn't very intuitive. But it has some seriously good locations
Very unintuitive and difficult to navigate. Also the only comprehensive app out there though and it does get the job done.
Can't look up areas in app. Example u need to know pine canyon is sf bay area Mt Diablo pine canyon.. I often times have to look it up on your website just to find the areas. it's mostly just descriptions of where the climbs are which is super confusing. Do u purposefully make the app terrible to get people to buy the books? I'd gladly pay 20-30 dollars for an app thats the same as the book. Books are just added weight and when I'm walking an hour to a climb need the least amount of weight as possible
I really want to give this five stars but I can't, because its fundamentally flawed and is not open source, so I can't help fix it. I would love to be put on this development team to try and help out but since that won't happen this review is the best I'll be able to do to reach the developers. Please open source this and let us help you out! There are programmers out there that would love the opportunity (me included) to make this app the best it could be. And seriously, why not open source it?
You can't sort by rating or type (boulder, trad, sport) so it's time consuming to find what you're looking for.
Get it if you climb, otherwise you'll waste lots of time finding routes rather than climbing.
App has inconsistent UI and UX. So many UX principles are broken. Unable to search all areas. Unable to download "in progress areas"
Love this app. It's really helpful. Wish there were better pictures cause we are always confused about what's what.
It would be nice to be able to view all climbing in my area by seeing the entire local map all at once. At the moment it seems I have to google the name of each area to see if it's even near me before downloading.
Crashes constantly, missing many photos. Better off downloading the website
Great for offline route info, but to help with discovery they should add search/filter capability
Drives me nuts that you can't always see a whole comment, even after clicking read more. Also would be nice if you could post comments when online
I use this to scout out new climbs every time I go out! A great resource if you are depending on old guide books- make sure you have the up to date info!
Please change the app to store data on the SD card. Part of the app can be moved to SD card, but the data always gets stored in internal storage. Please allow the data to be moved to the SD card. The data takes up way more space than the app. I can't think of any reason for the need to store the data on the internal storage. Please change the app.
This is the first place I go to when I begin planning my next climb. I'm able to get an idea of things and see what other chambers have to say about it.
Anyone that rates this app anything less than 4 stars doesn't climb.
This is one of my favorite apps, doesn't replace a guide book, but it's a great companion.
Open app. Crashed. Opened again and crashed. Reinstalled now freezes when trying to download maps.
Mountain project is the best online guide climbing guidebook, and the app is a great companion, so you can keep that beta when you're out at the crag or on the wall.
I could spend hours exploring the world through mtn project. Killer app!
better ui to help with integrating more useful climber data. The website content is good as raw data, but needs to be better managed into useful information.
Buying guidebooks for every place is impossible and being able to save everything to your phone is the best
This is the only app I have on my phone. On long multipitch routes do not rely solely on MP!
Still kinda lost though
I use it a lot
This one app has it all! I've found everything I will ever need to know or search for in one place.
Doesn't have Mountains of Iran.
Has good information, but throws an encoding error when logging in and would like to sort routes by grade.
App used to work great. Still use the website, which is fine as long as there is service. "Unexpected character" error constantly pops up, haven't been able to sign in for months to track my ticks, and the app resets frequently losing the climb I was looking at. Edit: Several months and a few updates later, still broken.
I love to use this app to find new places, but I wish you could find places by zooming in and out on the map.
Allows you to view routes and tick climbs offline! Wish you could add routes and areas though.
Don't leave home without it !
Great app but now I've lost my left to right sorting. Only shows alphabetical. Using a Galaxy S6.

I've only used the mobile version while climbing in WI, but having route pictures sure cuts down on the 'uhh... I'm pretty sure this is the route' time sink. Only way to improve it would be for us community members to add pics of where to set TR anchors to prevent those ohfunkijustspent30minutesdroppingananchorforthewrongroute moments. Kudos on the app. And... Could you open source this or provide a reasonable license fee?
