About Moon Climbing - MoonBoard

The new MoonBoard App is designed to support the new redesigned MoonBoard website and both standard and LED MoonBoards. The archived set ups and problems can be found on the MoonBoard website .

What is the LED MoonBoard?

The MoonBoard LED system brings easy identification of problems to the MoonBoard. Beneath each MoonBoard t-nut position is an LED light, which is controlled by our MoonBoard App. When the user selects a problem on the App, the holds that make up that problem are illuminated by their corresponding LED lights.

Our new LED system gives users access to 100s of MoonBoard problems in just a click and a swipe, making the MoonBoard training facility even more user-friendly and accessible than ever before.

What is the MoonBoard App?

Our new (and free) MoonBoard App brings all the benefits of the MoonBoard website to the user’s smart phone or tablet. It also includes several new features. The key features of the MoonBoard App are as follows.

The user can choose the MoonBoard hold set up used on their wall.
View problems.
Light up problems (LED MoonBoard required).
Easily and quickly add problems.
Simply sort and filter problems.
Grade and rate problems
Create multiple lists of problems (e.g. warm ups, favorites, projects, training routines.
Add users for group MoonBoard sessions.

Took time to get into using it, but finding it useful. Tried putting a circuit of 10 moves on to use as an assessment, but you can't finish on the start hold. No big deal-a future development?. Chris

Sweet app. Really nice to have this collection of problems. Could you please consider adding the feature of viewing a problem in your logbook, so you could see the problem and even edit it (comments, stars..)? I have the problems in "browse all problems" filtered so that it won't show the problems I have already done. This makes it impossible to revisit the problems that I have already climbed.

This is a great app to show climbs across the world, however it would be fantastic if there was a project feature, where you could have climbs marked off that have yet to see an ascent and could later be claimed as FA. Also if the share feature was a bit more manageable it would make that feature much more pleasant to use, maybe make the shared lists update automatically when a climb is added or removed. Also if you could make an edit or remove an ascent and help eliminate all the fixed climbs in the app.

Samsung Galaxy S6 - for soem reason signup fails. And yes name is more then 5 chars and pasord is more then 8 (not using special chars)

The Moon Board is such a fantastic idea. The style of climbing really forces you to focus on engaging your core and pulling/pushing with your feet. The last update has fixed most of my requests within the app. The one thing I and many others find confusing is the functionality of the back button. The back button in Android essentially means "back one step", so it would make sense when viewing a problem to be able to tap back and go back one step to the list of problems aka "Browse All Problems".

First, on starting it I'm warned that it is frozen. Once it starts working, it can't do anything until I create an account. I try to create one over and over and an always told that "something went wrong; we could not retrieve the problem list. Check your internet connection." My internet is fine, it's your app that is broken.

App crashes after creating an account, goes through the synchronization, then shows "Welcome, (name), Let's get started." Crash. Would really love to use this app, there is a Moon Board at my gym. Please advise! Phone is an LG V20.

Why did you eliminate 6a's from the app? I am building a Moon Board for the local climbing gym. Many of the gym members climb in the 6a range. They won't be able to use the app or the LED system so there's no point in asking the gym owner to buy one. Is there any plan to bring 6a's back?.........Thanks for the response. Rating upgraded. I'll try to get approval to buy the LED kit.

A searchable user database is needed. Maybe a search for finding friends on the app would help the session creation process. the sessions don't work like they should for sharing problems. Fix this and you got a kick ass app

H70%
by H####:

The app crashes when I try and share problems with friends, but on a side note can the wall and background be made customizable? It's a little difficult to see the number and letters. Still an awesome app

S70%
by S####:

Really like the app, but please add some way to stop (or limit?) the push notifications. I have friends that uninstalled the app because they did not want to deal with the constant notifications.

U70%
by U####:

Not intuitive and crashes a lot. Problem grades are not based on consensus. EDIT: I apologize, I did not realize consensus grades are stated in parentheses. Even still, the back button in the app does not consistently go to the previous screen/page. You cannot pull up to see the problems in your logbook, you cannot search for problems by problem name, and the hold markers randomly disappear requiring you to restart the app. With the update coming, I look forward to seeing the improvements. The idea of the app is still a great addition to training on the Board.

Its annoying when i get a notification for anyone in the world adding a problem. Please let me configure this in settings.

S70%
by S####:

Some nice features to have in the application: * when selecting a problem from logbook it should be displayed on the screen * you should be able to search a problem by name (not only by the name of the setter) * trying to add an existing problem displays an error, but you are not able to add it to the logbook because you cannot find it. In error message dialog, beside OK button, you should have a Show button which displays the existing problem. * offline mode: you should be able to add new problems and add problems to logbook even if you don't have network connection. These information should be saved locally (in the phone/tablet) until network connection is available when this information should be send automatically or manually to the server. * have a friend list so you can easily find them when setting the filter. Maybe also see what problems they have solved.

Experiencing very annoying bugs on a HTC One M9, the most important of them being that the app sometimes "forgets" some of the holds on a problem and does not show them. Makes it next to useless!

S70%
by S####:

The moon board and climbing part of the app is nice, but I'm missing app settings to e.g. stop notifications which are annoying as f***

S70%
by S####:

Love the app. Would be great to have an option to turn off all of the notifications every time someone adds a problem.

S70%

Would love to see other people's comments and ratings on problems. Also it would be nice to be able to search by name.

Love the moonboard and this app is an amazing training tool. Since you are so responsive to feedback, I'd like to request a way to export my lists. I spent a lot of time getting custom lists for training different skills... then I got a new cell phone and all my lists are gone! :(

It doesnt work with Samsung. The app can't seem to find the board, even though my Bluetooth sees it. Resetting the board or my phone doesn't work too

I am having a lot of fun with this. How do I turn off the notifications though?

Moonboard training has become an important part of my son's, @joshuagoldenclimbs, training. The current android version of this application has bluetooth connection errors on certain devices but I was able to test an upcoming version and it works great. Stay tuned for the next release.

K70%

I'm using an older setup on my board which I don't want to change as I have a number of projects so it's not much good to me at the moment. One of the great things about the Moon Board for me is the hugh choice of problems but this cannot access them. It could also do with some notification settings as every time a problem is added it alerts me with a text notification which I don't want.

S70%
by S####:

Problem list is great, will help a lot. I don't understand the friend function at all, doesn't seem to be able to share anything with my friends? Too clunky to add problems to my list, that part could be much more efficient, a little buggy too. It doesn't sync my list between my two devices, that would have been great. Keep up the good work, looking forward to working the moon board with this app.

Friend function? How is it to work? Logbook... Where are the problems stored, can one see the problems done, are they removed from the to do list?

When you try to connect to Bluetooth it crashes, fix and we can revisit this review

M70%

Cannot connect to the board via the app using an S7 with marshmallow Android. I can view the board as a Bluetooth device and can pair via the phone's software. I also get notified every time someone adds a new problem, which is frustrating, please give the option to disable this. Ross

I sometimes train on a moon board at the gym. I was planning to set one up at the house, but I'm not interested without the 6a's and 6b's. Please bring them back. Otherwise a good app.

K70%
by K####:

I agree, sad that the legacy setups are gone. Also think it is a bad idea to cover the holds with colored balls to show a problem. More useful and easier to memorize the problem if you can see the shape of the holds. Maybe a ring around, maybe only show the holds of the problem or best of all settings to be able to customize. Edit: Like the new hold markers, great!

N70%
by N####:

Useless to me unless I reset my wall. Noooope. But nice interface. Add the other setups and I'll use it. Why didn't you?

V70%
by V####:

A lot of the hold setups are gone. And I see you've changed your website and removed most of the setups there to, so you can't even check there in order to train! The moonboard used to have over 1000 problems but now down to a grand total of 65 (interesting that the app says 65 and the website says 77). Also very buggy, keeps crashing. I recommend the non official app rather, far better than this.

Q70%
by Q####:

got the latest version, still incredibly buggy. Doesn't have all the hold setups? Some random guy created an app thats better than the official moon app? slightly embarrassing. Looking forward to the fully working app.
