An alarm clock shouldn't shell-shock you out of your dreams. That's why I created Gentle Alarm which tries to wake you up during light sleep using an optional pre-alarm.

Alarm clocks can't know if you are in light sleep or deep sleep (those movement based alarm clock don't work) but they can play a very quiet pre-alarm which you will only hear if you are in light sleep. If you are in deep sleep, you will simply sleep through the pre-alarm.

The pre-alarm plays 30min before you really want to get up (you can change that). If the pre-alarm wakes you up, you will be more refreshed than if you had slept until the main alarm because at that time you would have fallen back into deep sleep. Give it a try and I am sure you won't want to miss it anymore.

Of course, the app has all the usual features of a great alarm clock:
It can switch to a night display automatically when docking the phone. It can automatically shorten the snooze time with each time you press snooze. It can automatically create playlists of your favorite artist or genre. And it allows you to change colors, fonts, and backgrounds.

PERMISSIONS:

* RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: So it can activate an alarm after you reboot the phone. After reboot, all alarms of all apps are cancelled by default.

* WAKE_LOCK: So the phone can stay on while playing an alarm or while displaying the night display.

* DISABLE_KEYGUARD: When the alarm rings, you don't have to unlock the phone to be able to turn the alarm off.

* VIBRATE: obvious

* WRITE_SETTINGS: It adjusts some system settings such as airplane mode, silent mode, etc.

* WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE: It logs some data on your SD card.

* READ_PHONE_STATE: So it can turn off the alarm when the phone rings and prevent an alarm from ringing while you are talking on the phone.

* READ_LOGS: So you can send me debug data (if you choose to)

* INTERNET: So that I can display ads (trial version only). Also, if the app crashes, it offers to send me a debug report directly to my servers. The app will politely ask you if you want to send that data or not. If you do, it needs an internet connection. If not, it doesn't but I still need the permission in the app because you may want to send the debug data.

I did expect single use alarms to be disabled on Wed. I down loaded this on Wed when my pandora alarm fail again and was unwilling to try my luck waiting for tomorrow to see how this alarm would work. Oh well I liked the look of the app but since I can't try it out while I am awake, I am moving on to the next app. Good luck with the app.

"I do not play alarms on Wednesdays" is a poor solution to encouraging purchase of a paid version. Set a time limit. I downloaded this on a Wednesday and now I'm unable to try it out. If you update this limitation I am more than willing to reevaluate.

The user of 'profiles' is extremely lacking. I have several alarms daily and it helps me to have different music per alarm. However with your profile system, I would also have to have a separate profile for each type of music I want. There should be a way to select separate music for each alarm.

Well I installed this app based on an old life hacker article, to try out the app before I buy. While I waited for installation I decided to read the most recent user reviews. Unfortunately based on their experiences I absolutely have no intention of trying this app, and even though it's only a few bucks I'm not buying it without making sure it works on my device. I don't mind having some alarms blocked on certain days, I can use my old alarm on those days. I do think it's worth a wait to find a great alarm. What I'm not willing to risk is adds in the morning when I'm grumpy, sleepy, and in some cases late. If you choose to remove the adds during alarms let me know and I will try your app. If it works as life hacker says I absolutely will buy it, blocking me from Wednesdays is enough to make me buy the app, I think it is a smart and reasonable call.

When I wake up to an alarm, I'm usually super stressed. This was totally different! I slept through the first alarm, but woke to the second without being startled. My inclination to go back to sleep was gently thwarted by a memory puzzle. I will be purchasing the full version. Genius!

For me, this clock will do everything i need. i use it as a night clock only and use my oem clock for alarms. it allows for changing font sizes for both landscape and portrait, font color, onscreen dimming. it also prevents screen burn in. I actually like the trial version feature of showing ads for 1 minute after docking. the ads provide enough light for me to get organized in the dark and not wake my wife. if they would add this feature (a one minute light) to the paid version, i would buy it. i am concerned if i upgrade to the paid version, the 1 minute feature would go away.

Is not "unlimited" apart from the WED alarm as stated. Features are not available to test in the trial. Dev emailed but no reply after 10 days so poor experience for me....

Have used it on & off for 3 years. Love the many customization choices! The only thing I ask for is to allow snooze time to be absolutely any length of time interval I want. That is very important so I can adhere to healthy sleep cycles & not be shocked out of sleep in mid-cycle. Otherwise, love it! Thank you, devs!

Here's a huge problem...loud, blaring ad plays the moment I dismiss an alarm after it goes off. A loud, blaring ad, in the morning, first thing, after I dismiss my "gentle alarm." I see no guarantee of the paid version being ad free, and even if paid version is ad free, I need to TRY the free version first just to see if it functions dependably on my Marshmallow. Developer just CHECKED OUT a year ago and won't fix Jack, so the one star stands. Fix it or make it free.

Please update your app on the Amazon AppStore. I bought your app on the Amazon AppStore but now it won't let me download it on my Note 5 running Android 6.0.1. Your app on Amazon hasn't been updated for several years. Please don't leave your customers hanging. This should serve as a signal to others that they don't care about their paying customers.

I like that it has a pre-alarm and a safe alarm. If you are a heavy sleeper like me, you should download the zedge ringtone app. Look for new loud ringtone, it is so loud. I like that it sounds just like my doorbell. I think that it could even wake up a hybernating bear. Keep up the good work and thank you for the alarm.

Although I like look and lots of options this application is not reliable on my xperia active CM11 based room. I tried different settings but sometimes it rings later 10 minutes or so and that is not acceptable for alarm clock.. update: 20.3. autor fixed issue.

I've tested out all major alarms, and this one is the best. The pre-alarm is great. UI is very nice. Great support from developer as well. And has the best alarm widget, it's a small widget with next alarm on it, that I could not find with other alarms.

*** This review applies to both the trial and PAID versions! *** This had been my preferred alarm clock for many years but it does not work with Android 6/M/Marshmallow. It hasn't been updated since April 2015 which could explain why. It's completely unreliable in Marshmallow. Occasionally it goes off when it's supposed to, but most of the time it either doesn't go off at all or goes off when I turn on my screen after waking up to a backup alarm. I've even turned off battery optimization (Doze) for it.

I downloaded this app because i needed a quieter, gentler alarm. there's always an ad that pops up after i turn off the alarm and later unlock my phone. That was annoying but ok, until this morning when i turned my alarm off and an earsplittingly loud song came on when i turned my alarm off, & i had to unlock my phone and turn the volume down to do anything about it. Completely defeats the purpose of me having this app, which is a) to NOT start the day w fear/grouchiness, & b) to not wake up my partner

I installed this app because my new Galaxy Note 5 has fewer options on the alarms than the S3 did. This app heavily talks up the benefit of the low-volume pre-alarm for pleasant waking, yet won't let the pre-alarm run the full time. For example, if you set it to start 30 minutes before the main alarm, it will stop after 20 minutes. This is the big feature of the app! On their forum, there's a post from 2013 requesting they address this issue. Definitely hasn't convinced to pay money for the full version.

But just terribly ugly UI. If I use it as a nightstand clock it is even worse because the display is so ugly and lacks basic UI polish. The numbers are so small. Why not make them big or sizeable. It's not like there aren't other great desk clock apps with great graphic designs that you could take cues from and then add your differentiating features. The feature scope is great but the UI is so amateur that there is no way someone could be confident enough to pay anything for it until that was fixed.
