American Heritage English Free for Android
I was considering the paid version, now I'm not sure. I tried looking up "Beatle" and "beatles" and neither was found, even though "McCartney" or 'lennon" both returned definitions that references "beatles" but even then, clicking on the word returns nothing.
Love this dictionary! I would love to see the IPA pronunciation table as well as AHD's. Worth the money.
Excellent dictionary and thesaurus with option of offline installation on multiple devices for convenience of readers.
It's Very super
For me, it is really useful, but the price is high.
Really good definitions - this is my go-to dictionary
Really love this dictionary
Knowledge is a must
Aside from the Collins, this is the only thorough dictionary I've found that lets you export definitions directly to Anki flashcards. Unfortunately, with the latest update, it now adds an obnoxious URL for the definition online. I really hate this as well as the new bright white UI with a cluttered home screen. Anyway... The dictionary content is great. The definitions are usually quite plain-spoken, often with helpful usage notes. In most cases, I reach for the AHD or Collins, which has IPA transcriptions for the pronunciation and whose definitions tend to be more concise. (I also use the Oxford Shorter daily and Merriam-Webster's once in a while, for context. The UI for Merriam-Webster's is my favourite of the four if that's your deciding factor.) I'd also like the option to disable downloading the pronunciations—I never use them and they use up unnecessary space.
Just paid 25 bucks for older version and after being updated it is downgraded to free version. Make a ticket and ask for refund or upgrading , they have replied nonsense to me!!
The new color scheme is horrible. It was much better before.
I use the American Heritage app incessantly. I am, however, disappointed that the periodic table is obsolete and remains so after nearly a year.
Dark theme needed. New theme hurts the eyes. Please know that some people read at night. Why don't you make option for people to choose themes?
Asside from other dictionary this one is thorough and very well made
Shows how English words are related to older languages which helps in remembering the definitions.
Don't like the fact that I'm imposed to review every time I get a word of the day!!
I like learning a new word of the day every morning when commuting to work. Very comprehensive dictionary and Thesarus.
Out of all dictionaries, American Heritage Dictionary is the best dictionaries in the world, comparing to Webster. I love this dictionary.
Great app. The "old school" definitions I'm always looking for.
Much cheaper than the actual book version. As good
Good dictionary. Wish there were more sample sentences.
Best American English Dictionary Period.
Bad app
Meaningful context to word search
A good choice.
It's awesome
Very good.
Great app
Is awesome
I love it
I bought the enhanced version of this. Wanted the thesaurus. Latest update disabled the enhanced version and threw me back to the free version. What the he'll do you people think you are doing? I want my money back! How do I get it?
I paid for the plus version. Latest update bumped me down to the free version. I want my money back.
Amazing!
It is good
Great dictionary but premium version is too expensive (unreasonable so IMO). Make the premium version $5.00 and I will rate 5 stars and purchase.
One of the important features of tihs dictionary, which is unique among others, so far as I know, is the giving of indo-european and semetic roots of some words. It is wonderful. Also it has some pictures, which is also unique among the dictionaries of similar extent, so far as I know. Thanks a lot for such a helpful and great app.
It's a great app, yet, it misses two important features: first, the night reading mode, and second the ability to switch between the dictionary and the thesauruse for the same subjected word.
The sound th in words this and thin is the same in american IPA?!please correct e.g. make th bold for 'this' or th in italics
Great, adaptive dictionary but pointless w/out the full version--unless your device lacks an web browser.
