About Russo-Japanese War Propaganda
The Russo-Japanese War (8 February 1904 – 5 September 1905) was fought between the Russian Empire and the Empire of Japan over rival imperial ambitions in Manchuria and Korea. The major theatres of operations were the Liaodong Peninsula and Mukden in Southern Manchuria, and the seas around Korea, Japan, and the Yellow Sea.
The Russo-Japanese War was documented in various forms of media, such as woodblock prints, photographs, and illustrations. The victories of the Japanese military in the early stages of the war inspired propaganda prints by Japanese artists.
This App presents ilustrations from the series, Rokoku seibatsu senshō shōwa (The expeditionary war against Russia: tales of laughter). The series mocked the Russians for their perceived military weakness, conceit, and cowardice.
