About Moab Trails 2.0
Dear returning and new customers:
Please see Moab Bike for the latest release of this app for 2015 - Moab Trails, which reflected trails circa 2014, is now obsolete and will eventually be deleted from the app store.
Please see my new website at bluerockmobileapps.com for further information on this and other similar Utah maps of interest to the recreationalist.
I have changed the app name from Moab Trails to Moab Bike to make it more visible on Google. Regrettably for those of you who have already purchased this app, the name change means an upgrade will cost you the price of a couple of cups of coffee, maybe less depending on how fancy you like your coffee. My apologies. But a portion of your fees have and will continue to go to Trail Mix, the non-profit organization responsible for building and maintaining Moab-area trails.
Happy riding,
Mike Duncan
Moab, UT

Moab Trails 2.0 builds-in most (120+) Moab, Utah area mountain bike trails and displays your current GPS position against Google Maps, enabling you to view, evaluate, find and navigate these trails. Trails are color-coded for difficulty. Tapping a trail marker highlights the trail and shows its name, difficulty (in more detail) and length. Most trails contain elevation information, and if so, total up and down grades and an elevation profile plot are shown. Any of four map layers (roads, terrain (contours), satellite and hybrid) are displayed using long-press. Views may be translated, zoomed, rotated or tilted with the usual gestures.
To find trails whose name you know, pressing a Search icon presents a screen of alphabetized trail names (together with difficulty and length) through which you may scroll. Tapping any name returns you to the map centered and zoomed in on that trail.
To use, you must view the area you wish to visit before leaving a WiFi or phone service area in order to cache map tiles on your device. Otherwise, no WiFi or phone service in the field is required.
Besides the new Search feature, version 2.0 includes additional trails and more detailed How To Use instructions.
While Moab, near Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, is a world-premier mountain-bike recreation area, Moab Trails may also be used for general-purpose map viewing anywhere in the world.
Moab Trails 2.0 contains no advertising. As with paper maps for specific areas sold at bike shops in Moab, this app (covering a number of bike areas) is sold for a small fee. As with paper maps, profits go to Trail Mix, the Moab organization that builds and maintains Moab-area bike trails, much of it with volunteer labor.
Please report bugs, trail errors or suggestions for additional features to the author whose contact information is given in the app. A number of bikers have already done so, and some of their suggestions have been incorporated in this release.
While it is anticipated that this app will be used primarily by mountain bike riders carrying smartphones, it will work equally well on tablet devices, which provide a larger map viewing area.

A good basic app, but doesn't include many new trails. A paid app should be better maintained.
