M&S Balance for Android
M&S Bank is just a rebranded HSBC account, with an annoying PIN code calculator to access the web site, and an even more frustrating banking app so minimal that it does almost nothing when compared to other HSBC accounts, such as Tesco Bank.
What a hopeless banking app. Only shows balance of current account and mini statement. What about credit card accounts and savings and making payments etc. Come on m&s, surely you can do better than this. This is certainly not the quality one would expect from you. Very dissappointing.
Fed up with not being able to use this app, it won't even let me enter my password to get into. I can not keep track of spending as it only shows the day you last logged on. It does not offer the option of being able to transfer money. Far too basic. I think I will be leaving M&S banking for this reason.
Very poor app in the age of online banking. You can only see current account transactions and have no visibility of your other accounts with them. You can't transfer money via the app and need to use desktop version with an outdated digital pass card- which means you need to carry pass with you all the time or only manage banking from home. Compared to my previous banks app M&S's is rubbish- enough to make me regret switching banks. This app and it's interface need alot of investment. Very disappointing.
Worse banking app on the market. In a time when M&S bank were one of the first banks to support Android pay they deliver this poor excuse for a banking app. Basic design, no function to make payments. Disappointing at best just like when you ring their customers services
Couldn't even access the app. Apparently my card can't be verified! I have it in front of me and I know my own address. Oh well, back to laptop only access for banking. Or I might switch to a different bank before this ones fully set up!
Moved to m&s from Halifax and this app is useless. You can't make payments or check direct debits, standing orders etc. Online banking is limited too by the external pin management device they give you. Improvement urgently needed.
Quite possibly the worst looking Android application I have used in a number of years. Clearly not updated in a while (Looks like a bodged version of the Froyo interface). If you claim to be 'New Fashioned Banking' you should at least look like it. Missing some pretty basic features that competitors provide, as you can only add debit cards... Really? Hopefully the security aspect is considered more than the UI and other functionality.
This app require a significant amount of improvement. It really is useless. You can't really see anything about your accounts and you get to top up your phone. The percentage of people who want their banking app to top is their phone must be low. I recommend you look at what other banks are doing and think about how you can improve. Hopefully that is M&S new years resolution
HSBC back this service. HSBC used to be the Midland bank and their slogan was that they were the 'Listening Bank' (remember Griffin!?). Might I suggest some old fashion listening to the reviews and a vast improvement please. This app is truly awful.
No functionality to transfer money. Means using a desktop PC and the awful code generator device - old fashioned and a rigmarole. Most bank phone apps do a lot more - I miss my old bank! Also when using a screen filter (accessibility) it doesn't activate the keyboard so there's no way to type in the passcode.
Only check balance? Seriously? I just switched my banking over to you and can only add a debit card to check balance?! Most useless app ever! Regret moving from my bank who I've been with for 26 years!
If like me you use a phone banking app to move money about your accounts and pay bills then don't bother with this app. As others have said it's about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Come on M&S move into the 21st century. You promise 'New Fashioned Banking' in your advertising so where is it?
Really basic app for basically checking balance of current account and last few transactions. Would be extremely useful to be able to make transfers through the app and check all transactions like my old bank could do. It's such a pain having to log onto a computer and go through full security in order to make a small payment to a friend. Please look into this as it's making me want to move banks again
App is broken. After installation. Opened to app, it asked for my phone number but no keyboard appears to enable me to enter. The continue button works. Please sort it ASAP!
Very frustrating and limited. M&S should take a look at other banking apps to see the minimum functionality required. I can't link or check my credit card from the same bank. Poor, get updating it M&S this would be a deal breaker in moving to another bank.
It was an extremely poor attempt when it 'worked'. Now, it doesn't even do that! Keyboard doesn't pop up to enter my pin. Reinstalled, didn't allow me to enter my phone number. When it did work, only allowed balance for one account. Did nothing else. Very poor.
Awful, almost unbelievable that M&S would release such a poor excuse for a banking app. Especially as they are just HSBC, a rebranded version of their app shouldn't be that difficult. I'll be leaving M&S bank once my year of offers finishes.
What's the point in this app I'm confused?! Isn't an app for convenience and ease of making payments, transfering money etc? I moved from rbs who have a good app. And having to carrying that little pad thing round if I need to make a payment or transfer money to someone is ridiculous, it actually makes me think of switching banks again!!!
Can only check balance and last few transactions on current account, what a waste of time. Regretting opening this account for this reason only. This app WILL NOT carry out any other transactions, e.g. check on other accounts, move money between accounts and credit payees already set up etc. All the things you might expect from "new fashioned banking". Thinking of returning to my previous bank. Apparently M&S do not understand how people use smart phones, tablets etc.
It says what on the tin. Check balance on bank account. It can't make payment like every other bank app; nor check credit card balance. Quite useless
Very poor app. Very limited functionality if any as Balance checking doesn't really work. Does not show up to date transaction, two hours ago I put cash into my account and the balance has still not registered on my mini statement. In this day and age how can you have this happening? Not an 'APP' this is a 'FLOP'.
This app is basically a waste of space! No functionality whatsoever. You will need to log in to the desktop site to do anything at all with your account, other than check your balance. TSB banking app is so much better!
Pretty pointless app. When are you going to catch up with the other banks and provide a useful app. Move money, use to get a security log-in if you dont have your m&s pass with you...
Waste of time as I only have a credit card. Are you listening M & S. I need an app for my credit card like everyone else. I see it is not only your fashions that are so yesterday.
Only works with debit card. I dont have an M&S debit card. Any chance M&S can join the rest of us in the 21st century? Nearly all other banking apps can do way more than this one. One step up from using a stone tablet and chalk.
What a hopeless banking app. Only shows balance of current account and mini statement. What about credit card accounts and savings and making payments etc. Come on m&s, surely you can do better than this. This is certainly not the quality one would expect from you. Very dissappointing.

Can't get passed the activation code if you already have the hsbc or first direct app. As it's all the same bank the app doesn't work. Should be easier to sort considering you can use hsbc and fd app together without any issues. Don't bother call the help line, their advice is to download the app on another device which you don't use hsbc or fd! Please fix.
I really like being able to check my balance and have a mini statement but it would be really useful to have my credit card and savings accounts on here too as the website is occasionally difficult to access. I also get a pop up saying 'copied to clipboard' when I log in - not sure what that's all about!
M&S Bank uses the slogan "new fashioned banking" but the app doesn't allow making payments, doesn't offer to replace the M&S Pass security code generator and doesn't work with a screen filter. It's of little benefit to me.
I've been spoiled with my other bank's app, so I find this incredibly simplistic. But I am grateful that it's here, logging into internet banking with M&S is a serious pain! At least I can check my balance and mini statement, but it offers little else really. I am unhappy that it wouldn't let me add my M&S credit card, I hope that function will follow soon.
Awful app. This is so basic. I struggle to understand how a company of this size is so far behind the times. I have switched bank to them, unfortunately this will make me move on. It's does not enable you to do anything other than see your balance.
I'm really surprised at how basic this is. I've just switched from Smile Bank (Co-op) and really wished I'd know how useless the mobile banking/app was. The majority of my banking actions were done via the app, transferring money and making payments etc and now I feel like my hands are tied until I get to a PC! New-fashioned banking - really! with an equally antiquated login - how comes HSBC (who provide M&S banking) can't dupe their app with it's fingerprint login?
Does what it says but compared to other banking apps it's rubbish! Not being able to do transfers via the app is my main issue.
Really disappointed in the app - basically just a mini statement/balance check. No ability to make payments or transfers as per other HSBC group apps. Disappointing that I will have to properly log on to do anything with my money, especially given that bank branches are scarce.
Why do you need a card on the account to add it? You don't have to have a debit card with the current account - even more so now they are in the android pay scheme. Also the regular savings account doesn't come with a card. It wouldn't accept my credit card number - said it was invalid. Not a lot of use really. I thought I'd download the app as I never have my passcode thingy with me when I want to look at the account. Complete waste of time and space
The app tells me my balance and the last 5 transactions on my account; like the little paper slip at a cashpoint. In 1996. If I want to do any actual banking, I need to log into the full site using the little security thingy which I don't carry around. Got to say Barclays app is so much better - I can transfer money, make payments, order a new card, set up standing orders and cancel Direct Debits. I barely 'bank' now as it's far too much faffing about - to the point I'm considering going back to Barclays.

This is not a banking app ,its a balance checker that dosent even give the available balance just the account balance so it fails on even being a balance checker. You get better info from an atm. You need to bring out an actual banking app that gives balance check, transfers, payments and paym! The app says new fashioned banking as you open it but its the least up to date app in existence! If this does not improve I will be moving bank!
