GPS Essentials

Nice app, and so far it is the best app like this yet. The UI feels clunky, and is awkward to figure out, and I wish I could download full maps because on the off chance that I didn't prescreen where I was going to have the ma cached, I'm kinda screwed. [maybe allow a base map download, and just catch higher zooms?]

As a software tester I can say from testing it that the functional side seems quite good but for usability it is one of the worst pieces of software I have ever used or tested. The PDF manual is not a great help and is a bit out of date. With rework of the UI etc. it could be much better.

This is a great App! I especially like that you can customize the dashboard. I was wondering if there was a way to get directions using OSM vor OpenTopoMaps as a baselayer? If that works, I haven't found out how. Thanks!

For the past year different versions would either export or not export tracks to the point that it's really not reliable anymore to record a GPS track with this software when you may not be able to get to where you wanted it. Such a shame because for so many years this was the greatest piece of GPS tracking software ever found

This app is great! It does everything I need it to for a GPS. The big issue is I go a lot of places and like to save the coordinates. Twice now I opened the app to use it and found all my info that I had saved gone! Most recently I lost over 2 years worth of saved locations.

It often stops tracking in the background which kind of makes it utterly useless as GPS tracker, and gets reaaallllly laggy with larger tracks (25km with the car was plenty on my Xperia z5). Also can't edit my SmartWatch dash. It also would be nice to have an option to download a selected area so portable maps are /actually/ portable without manually having to scroll through the map at specific zoom levels to cache them. Would buy the app if it worked better, but for now I'll judge it as a free app.

A waste of time. Not fully functional or useful unless you pay. Will it work? Who knows cause it sure as hell doesn't now!

Brilliant ,all in one. I was using this app since years in older android versions and had much worldwide location n stats saved but all lost as of device lost so why the coders not implement google my location in this app, but after all unique app in play store

GPS Essentials is definitely one of the most robust GPS apps that can be found on the Play Store. However, as explained in past reviews, the user interface is in grave need of a redesign for a smoother experience. For instance, it's not clear that both Streams and Waypoints can take you to the exact same waypoints list. The Streams system appears extremely innovative. In theory, a group of people can use this as a mode of sharing locations and sending messages to each other, but as this app doesn't seem to be available for iOS, the practicality sharply diminishes. The waypoint also didn't seem to care about current GPS location when it took a waypoint - if there's no fix, it just seems to take the last position, even if it was miles away. Caching is not effective in GPS Essentials and will lead to frustration during offline use. When using Google Maps, it will take a new cache instead of the maps gathered in the background by the Maps app. It is also not possible to download "Portable Maps" in advance: you must pan to the the location you want to save, and sinply wait for it to download the visible region. In terms of features, this app js great, but it is far from usable, sadly.

Though its Gui is not that neat as other apps, the functions it has is very good. I hope someone sponsors the dev or donates this app is much better than those other map apps

Has a lot of functionality but is really complicated and non-intuitive to use. Didn't record my track. Tedious to set a waypoint.

We are saved from holding bulky GPS apparatuses! Really awesome! Please make the map to rotate as we head forward. Saves battery a lot!!

As a surveyor, this app is one of the first apps I install when I switch devices. It has all the features to accomplish basic survey tasks where pin point accuracy is not required.

Not able to see my recorded track on map. In older version i able to see.some time app get crashed.

Offline maps take ages to load. Exporting tracks sometimes corrupts the kml file. Otherwise, works well.

Brilliant. The dash board is great that you can select and move things about. Next version. Add profiles so I can have one dash board for bicycle, one for dirt bike, one for road bike, and a few more user configurable profiles.

Some functions (ie bearing on compass) does not work mi 5s plus.. but it is still my favorite nav app..

I really used to like this app but the Elevation is off by 100 ft compared to other GPS apps. Not sure what happened.

This was my favourite and best GPS application yet, if only you developers add an offline maps for real navigation, even as a paid option, thank you for this app

This app probably does everything you'd ever need to do, but making it do it is a time consuming nightmare. The UI is illogical and difficult to control. Takes ages to create sets of waypoints, then when you try to navigate via them, route ignores most of them and takes you via roads instead of paths, despite choosing walking route. Difficult to select waypoints by clicking on them - can take half a dozen attempts - why? I have identified that user has to click on pin point tather than pin head - what's the point of having a pin head, but to make selection easy? Can't get rid of empty polygons. Waypoints need short refs that are visible on map. Need better visibility about what waypoints are in planned route and how to discard or drag route points. Difficult to select route point in isolation to delete it - end up deleting waypoints by accident. Lists Waypoints under Tracks - why? - the waypoints are not recorded tracks ? Makes you think you are deleting a track, but you are actually blowing away all your Waypoints! DANGEROUS app! Why can't I display calculated route to delete certain steps? How about button to get back to main menu? (centre of carousel maybe?) Needs proper user manual with scenarios followed from start to finish. e.g. Rapid route creation by creating automatically numbered waypoints by single clicking on footpaths on map. e.g. WP01, WP02, etc, where WP has been entered as a prefix name by user. Planning seems cumbersome and difficult in this app.

Very good app for high quality mapping and navigation. I wish it could incorporate possibility to import raster topo sheets.

Love your app and find it very useful, but it crashes more than all my other apps combined.

It can be better if possible to measure height of an object. Relative RL not accurate.

Nice app that does what many others cant. Such as import eaypoints, navigate to waypoints, and cache satellite maps for offline use.
