About Microsoft Tag, QR & NFC Reader

The Microsoft Tag app lets you instantly connect to a whole new world of information and entertainment. This latest version now reads Microsoft Tag barcodes and QR Codes as well as NFC touchpoints for those with NFC-enabled devices. No need to type long URLs or text short codes, simply scan a 2D barcode or tap a touchpoint wherever you see one. Tag recognition technologies transform traditional marketing, such as print advertising, billboards, packaging and LCD displays, into live links that immediately access info, videos and other materials online... no typing required.

What are users saying about Microsoft Tag, QR & NFC Reader

P70%
by P####:

This application has ads. Why would Microsoft need to ad support a reader for their own technology!?

C70%
by C####:

It works, if you can't get it to work, you're kinda sorta really incompetent. Love the app, better than the alternative from god knows where.

W70%
by W####:

It says I have no connection, but I do! And my other code reader works fine. Yet another fail for Microsoft!

C70%
by C####:

Why would you use a proprietary barcode format? And no one wants a social barcode scanner. App poorly optimized, uninstalling.

R70%
by R####:

Just scans anything u put infront of it and without any luck "tag unavailable". Pointless app at the moment

C70%
by C####:

When we press the SCAN button it displays error that camera did not start. Whereas camera works perfectly on this device. Slso where are NFC settings??

B70%
by B####:

The app works excellently and it reads the codes clearly. It also read the non-universal codes, like triangles and colours, and that's pretty cool.

C70%
by C####:

User interface doesn't match the rest of the phone at all, all images are very blurry, text boxes do not move up when the keyboard opens. Autofocus fails to work properly.

J70%
by J####:

It keeps hunting around focal length.... but cant decide where the image is. Unfortunately useless.

C70%
by C####:

Please add support for regular bar codes. As a user I don't want tons of different apps that conceptually do the same function.

C70%
by C####:

It immediately takes you to the link in the tag without proofing and prompting- very dangerous vector for rouge and malicious tag creators!!!

D70%
by D####:

I got some flooring samples from Lowes amd they advertised this app next to the MS tag. The tag pulls up an error saying there is no information for the tag. What good is this app if it doesnt even work for the tags that advertise it?

S70%
by S####:

I have an S4 and it will not focus to scan. I can take regular pics so I know it is not a fault with the camera. I've tried several times to scan but it just keeps saying scanning and never works.

C70%
by C####:

I read other comments and tried it anyway. I'm using a Droid Razr Maxx and as other people have reported, this app doesn't give the camera time to focus or even scan the whole tag or code. I have used several QR Code and barcode scanners and thought the Microsoft Tag might be useful but this scanner totally fails.

K70%
by K####:

Super fast scanner. Figures out the tag even before the camera finishes focusing! Displays relevant info quickly and with a nice layout. Much better than the other two similar apps I've used. Works great on Motorola Razr Maxx.

C70%
by C####:

It used to work, but no more. Don't waste your time. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same back and forth zoom in and out. It says it fixed a bug? Really? Now it has a BIG BUG. Doesn't work, at all.

W70%
by W####:

On a Nexus 5 os 5.1 Was able to open a Microsoft tag easily. Had s little trouble at first with a qr code. Stuttered. Opened to the right website but it was blank. The second try it got through no problem. Does not appear to read upc type barcodes. Would not focus. But I am not sure it is supposed to although I thought the ten barcode applied to the one dementional type.

Q70%
by Q####:

First scan failed with 'tag not available', then the app crashed causing my phone to lock up. Using a Samsung Galaxy S4. Uninstalled immediately.

Keeps sending u to download scanlife and that doesn't even work...don't bother downloading it's a waste of time

Y70%
by Y####:

This app doesn't work anymore(01/Feb/2016) on my Sony SP mobile with Android v4.3. Camera keeps focusing!!

B70%
by B####:

Endlessly cycles through focus/ out-of-focus and never scans the tag. Useless. It didn't work on my Motorola Bionic either. Although it says that it will read NFC, I can't find any way to do so. Most comments say it doesn't work as well. The website indicates that the product was abandoned in 2013 in typical Microsoft fashion. Don't bother to install; I'm deleting this worthless app as soon as I post this review. Be sure to re-rate the app before you delete it.

O70%
by O####:

This app used to be very useful and worked. It has not worked in months on any of my galaxy phones

L70%
by L####:

I was told to hold steady, then nothing happened, then crashed.

Y70%
by Y####:

Trying to scan a qr code for a Microsoft computer and it won't work...

Y70%
by Y####:

Always says not available at this time. Don't waste your time downloading this app.

Y70%
by Y####:

I have a Galaxy S4 and every time I try to scan it says it's not available. I tried over wifi and data and nothing. Should have listened to other ratings. Uninstalling.

M70%
by M####:

Does not scan anything. Just constantly tries to focus. Total trash

W70%
by W####:

As of 3/13/15 it does not appear to work on my LG g2. After tapping "scan", the camera loads and I can see clearly. But it keeps moving the focus and never actually scans.

R70%
by R####:

Another app I have, Barcode Scanner, works well but apparently doesn't scan Microsoft tags. I never got this one to scan a MS tag either, so what is this good for? Nothing! Besides, the world needs another tag format like it needs another muslim terrorist organization. It's gone!

Y70%
by Y####:

Never even heard Microsoft Tag until today when I bought a product with a MS Tag on it. When I scanned the tag with this app, it says no longer available. I'm guessing because MS is discontinuing the app/feature in August.

I70%
by I####:

Always says not available at this time. Don't waste your time downloading this app.

J70%
by J####:

I'm not sure what to think about this app. It takes the scan too quickly, before the pic is even in focus, while it's very blurry and when the actual MS Tag is not even in the pic. So at that point I thought, "this app sucks" but then it seemed to recognize what I was scanning (but the tag was unavailable), leaving me puzzled as to how the app knew what I was scanning and whether it actually works. The scanner definitely jumps the gun. Go figure?

K70%
by K####:

Keeps saying hold steady. You can't hold a phone that steady without a prop. Never reads a thing... UNINSTALL!! The scan button needs to be showing after 5 seconds or less regardless. But you can't hold it steady and hit a button on the screen anyway!

K70%
by K####:

When attempting to load it, it simply said "device not found".

B70%
by B####:

Microsoft. If you want to replace an industry standard with something new, you're supposed to offer an experience that is superior to what is currently available. Take a look at what Apple and Google are doing to your products for example. This app barely scanned the code and when it did it penned an in app browser which could not play the linked video. The sad thing was I took a picture of the code and Google goggles took me to the app to start with. Now that was impressive. What followed needs work.

A70%

None of the videos are wanting to play. Please fix issue

Quick & easy install. Easy to use. Gotta love it!
