Irish Birds for Android
Terrific little app & so handy in the field for a casual observer like me. Reminded me of the old Observers books of years ago. Maybe some of the pics (& only a very few) could be a bit clearer but that's just a very, very minor observation & one that I'm sure will come right as the app matures. Wonderful piece of work, top notch app.
Nice layout and good information and greatly appreciated that you have taken the time to create it. If I could offer 2 suggestions; 1 that the map that shows my location offers information regarding birds in my area as seen by other users and 2, a really big ask, but maybe be able to take a photo or record a sound and the app can attempt to identify the bird. Thanks
Lovely little app, brilliant photos and substantial information. The only thing is that the search engine should be broader so if i were to type goose i would be shown all the birds that have goose in their name instead of having to type pink footed or bean
I have just recently started using this app but am having fun with it and have already recommended it to others! A good enhancement would be if it handled wildcard searches so I could, for example, search 'gull' instead of having to know it is a 'lesser black-backed gull'. Also, to be able to search 'crow' and get all corvids. A big wish would be a classification type search for when you just don't know the bird name but could describe it's size/colourings/habitat/etc. These are only things on my wishlist however, and the app is very good without them. I thank the dev for putting it together and giving lots of enjoyment
I like it but as others have said the search functionality is poor as it seems to work only on the first word. e.g. "owl" gets nothing relevant. Need to enter "barn owl" but it is likely I know it's an owl but not exactly which species.
I absolutely love this app, Ive only recently begun looking at birds and with curiosity and this app is a tremendous aid to satisfying that curiosity. Thank you, and well done!
Brilliant app easy to use but can u add a time and date to put with when u spot bird thanks and the swallow photo is wrong could u change that please sorry
Really like that this is an Irish field guide. Love the clear pictures that make identification easier. Would like to see categories, like garden birds, water birds etc, would make it easier for kids to use. Keep up the great work, thanks.
Great app, though it would be great if it had a filter to get a group of birds, like songbirds, water foul, ect. Thanks.
Awesome app and I use it all the time..search facility could be a little better..and can't find Guillemot!?
Great app, could benefit from more pics for each bird, juvenile, female etc.
Quite a good app but with the Lapwing it shows a chick instead of an adult
This app ok but is limited. I saw a stork today but it doesn't have storks
Could do with a wider range in search, tried sparrow no results, had to put in house. Needs work
Suggestions: More images for each species, m/f, in flight, juvenile etc. Call sounds.
Lovely app. A nice feature would be to include a playtrack of the birds' calls
This is a nice handy app. I think it could be developed more though. e.g how about bird sounds for identification.
Very helpful and informative. Recommended app. It's a definite save for me. Thanks
Great app great for identifying the different bird's. Well done
Very helpful, just the right amount of information. Easy to use.
Super app. Thanks for the great work ☺️
No avocet?
This app is super handy for bird identification. My only gripe would be the search text box pops up when browsing the bird list and won't go away - so you must scroll the description above this. I have no problems recommending this app - I'd love to see song added in the future (and would happily pay for it).
Feature suggestion: Left-right scroll on image for one or two more images, maybe only for birds with superficial similarity to other birds;
Best available app for Ireland. Search could be improved e.g. cannot find "heron" unless you search for "grey heron". Keep up the good work!
One improvement would be to arrange the bird list by category (like a field guide) not alphabetically which assumes that one knows the name of the bird observed.
as a few others have said, the ability to sort the birds by family or similar appearance to aid identification would be very helpful. Maybe at some stage add birdsong clips, this would really set this apart from a book.
Text and pics are great, thanks! However "Search" only searches bird names beginning with the letters you type. I.e., searching for "crow" results in "crossbill" and no mention of the multiple varieties of crow we have in Ireland...
A handy app to have when out n about especially when I'd forget to bring along a reference book.
Egrets are becoming common in Ireland. I saw one today in Mulranny. They could be added to the list.
Missing some common birds
Great app. Categories would be handy though.
Love it
Excellant
Would be great if there was the calls or songs for the birds to help with identification. Also doesn't differentiate between the common buzzard and the honey buzzard, we have both in Wexford. Some common birds missing too. Would give five stars if these were fixed.
Terrible editing. Pintail text applies to pink footed goose!!! This is not the only one. More pics of different Plumage would be nice, also sound recordings of calls and songs.
I'm getting ready for a trip to Ireland and I'm happy to have a list restricted to just Irish birds. If the bird list was sorted by the type of bird, eg Swan, it would be easier to find the bird in front of you, and if I search for 'swan' I get a swallow but no swans.
Great to have a quick ref guide to hand without having to carry a guide. A few alternate images would be a nice addition, and better searches - eg woodpecker doesn't appear in a list when you enter woo...

Search needs to work for anywhere in the name (typing Egret should show me the Little Egret), and categories to help identifying (eg wader, crow, owl). Still haven't figured out the map feature.
