Shelves for Android
*** Development is now entirely dependent on open-source contributions. My infinite gratitude to the people who downloaded and supported this app, as well as everyone who offered words of praise or encouragement. It was for you all that I kept this app going for so long. ***
Shelves is an Android application that manages your collection of apparel, board games, books, comics, gadgets, movies, music, software, tools, toys, and video games.
With Shelves, you can add items in a number of ways, such as:
* By scanning barcodes
* From the Internet
* Entering details manually
You can also import and export data from a variety of sources, including Google Books, Google Drive, BoardGameGeeks.com, or Shelfari. There's also full support for software such as Dropbox, Delicious Library, and MediaMan.
Shelves lets you organize your collection by:
* Providing sorting rules on title, price, author, or format (CD, DVD, Vinyl, e.t.c.), and more
* Searching across all available item attributes
* Tagging and filtering your collection
* Allowing for the selection of multiple items
You can loan items to friends in your contact list, or rate items for your personal use. You can also opt to place items in a separate wishlist category.
Additionally, items can be in any language!
THIS APPLICATION IS SUPPORTED BY ADS. YOU CAN BUY THE SHELVES UNLOCKER ON THE MARKET TO REMOVE THEM. Additionally, some features are unavailable, unless the unlocker is purchased.
Thank you to everyone who supports a one-man development team, acting as developer, tester, documentation writer, as well as customer and public relations. I wouldn't do this if it weren't for all of you.

The following is a list of permissions that Shelves requests, and the reasons for their use. If you're not satisfied with the explanations I have here, by all means, contact me and I'll try to explain them further.
The following permissions deal with sending and receiving your collection to Google Spreadsheets. Google is VERY serious about account security, and as such, Shelves has no idea what your login credentials are. Shelves does NOT ask for your password. In this case, Shelves is only asking the Android/Google system whether or not you've successfully logged in:
* MANAGE THE ACCOUNTS LIST
* USE THE AUTHENTICATION CREDENTIALS OF AN ACCOUNT
* GOOGLE SPREADSHEETS
* GOOGLE DOCS (Google Docs in this case is not Google's online word processor, but rather the entire Google Docs suite)
* DISCOVER KNOWN ACCOUNTS
* VIEW CONFIGURED ACCOUNTS
* READ GOOGLE SERVICE CONFIGURATION
This connects Shelves to the Internet, and lets it download all the item information (covers, descriptions, e.t.c.):
* FULL INTERNET ACCESS
* VIEW WI-FI STATE
These manage how Shelves loans to your contacts, and adds reminders to your Google Calendar:
* READ CONTACT DATA
* READ CALENDAR EVENTS
* ADD OR MODIFY CALENDAR EVENTS AND SEND EMAIL TO GUESTS
This permits Shelves to access the cover images and import/export files to the SD card:
* MODIFY/DELETE USB STORAGE CONTENTS
* MODIFY/DELETE SD CARD CONTENTS
This keeps Shelves awake while imports occur. If the device's screen goes dim or falls asleep, the import could fail:
* PREVENT DEVICE FROM SLEEPING
This is necessary for Shelves to store your account preferences when doing an automatic backup (only for Android 2.2 and above):
* MODIFY GLOBAL SYSTEM SETTINGS

No support, after purchase app was junked. Uninstalled and discovered MyMovies. Better organization and a lot less fuss. Sorry no longer going to even suggest this product.
Best app that I found for CD's and books. A few minor issues, wish online search would retrieve more than 10 items. Worth the price with the upgrade.
I have used the app in the past and enjoy the cover art for my movie collection but they are now so small, I wondered why I just spent over a hr scan to only see titles like other apps.
This app is a huge help for people with large collections. I personally collect CDs. I was able to scan all 300+ of them in maybe three hours and that was while familiarizing myself with it in addition to scanning. It gives you a nice visual of what you have which is convenient if you're out shopping and can't remember if you own a certain album. I can just open the app, which works offline as well, and see if it's in my collection it has stored for me. I highly recommend this for making your life easier
I will need to store part of my book collection temporarily. This will involve putting books in boxes, hopefully to retrieve them later, all the while knowing, or being able to find out easily, where each one is. Being able to apply a tag to a selection of books sure would be helpful.
Update: after 2 or 3 years of use I no longer like this app, the images are too small, the text wraps, and I cant import or export between my devices so everything is stuck on my old device. I'm no longer happy and will be looking for another app to start all over with. I regret paying and unlocking this app.
Adding blank(manual) item is not allowed in free version! (T_T)
You can not add to your to your library before you purchase the app! You can not test what you going to buy!
It would be nice if you rename the shelves. I think this would be perfect floor tracking all of my MMORPG characters.
This is the app I've looking for
Overall, this is one of the better database apps I have found in the store. It does lack customization features, though I have only tried out importing my video game collection with the free version thus far. I hope that future updates will contain more options for sub categories and editing capabilities for downloaded titles. I have several series that do not read in alpha order due to the way they were entered in database.
I have been looking for an app like this for quite awhile. None quite meeting my standards, or needs, except this one. One downfall is the need to download a second app to use the barcode scan feature. A suggestion is to make your list shareable via social networks or sms.
This app could be better, I hate that the item icons are so small now. I want to put this to me use but not until I can see the items clearly on the shelves so until then my rating stays at a 3 star
Loved this app until recently. Exported all movies to Google Drive because the usual export to a text file didn't work. Got a new phone and installed the app. Now I can't import my movies back into shelves from Drive. Complete waste of space.
Just all the images are super tiny. You end up with a shelf full of things that are no more than 10 pixels tall.
I see no way of entering UPC codes or track lists in music section -- even after purchasing Unlocker feature still not found! Does anyone know how to add this information - it would be greatly appreciated if anyone knows how. Otherwise this would have been given a higher rating.
All was good till I brought this app. Keeps crashing and no support. I emailed and no reply back after 3 days and counting. Don't buy this app. You will be sorry because I am. When he email me and fix this issue' then I'll raise my review
I wish the icons of your collection were larger.
Can't rotate manually uploaded photos, can't search for Australian books (there are some great ones that just won't scan!) Can't confirm book details while scanning, and can't take a photo of a cover from the app. Would also LOVE to see an option to add manually straight from the ISBN numbers that defect.
I enjoy this app! Suits it's purpose!
Scanning/Bulk scanning items in (20+) ...4 HOURS later (1) STILL LOADING IN, (2) Only THREE ITEMS showing on shelves?! Scanned another book, one hadn't done yet, getting told "already scanned" (?!?! The hell?!)
Tried importing my Delicious Library book collection as per the instructions, of 375 books, it only thought it could manage to import 2, and it managed to get both of those wrong! Needs to do a *little* better than that before I'll buy the unlocked.....
Put on my Nexus 7 first,manually entered some DVD,s. Was ok but very slow. Put on phone this morning to use scanner. Scanner says they may be already on my list when they're not. Now realize the ones on my tablet aren't coming up. Can't use across devices which is what I wanted. Won't purchase as free version no good for me.
I properly exported everything before I did a wipe on my phone. I even exported to Google drive too. I can even see the docs on Google drive so I know they were backed up correctly. Now I can't import from Google drive. REVISED: I decided to spend the afternoon and re add my library. It was only a couple hundred items. However I did reach out to the developer which replied back to help. At which point I had already manually readded everything. But that was cool that he responded to help
Garbage now. Never thought I'd say open source killed something good.
No album art work. Can't transfer data to new phone. No support. Last update 18 months ago.
Edit: New device, can't import the info in any fashion. Text file, Dropbox, GDrive and so on. Nothing works to import data. Start import, crash. Guess I'll have to find something else. Pity, liked it so much I bought it. But it's useless to me if I can't move the data to a new device.
Something happened in android 4 that has caused the cover images to be tiny. Since dev abandoned, doubt it will get fixed. If it does, will update to 5 stars.
This used to be a great app. It would keep track of all of my movies, games and books. Ive gone through 3 phone upgrades and my items never upload properly from google, dropbox or sd card and now that im scanning EVERYTHING in AGAIN all of the graphics are tiny. In search of a new app...
You can not add to your to your library before you purchase the app! You can not test what you going to buy!
Adding blank(manual) item is not allowed in free version! (T_T)
Finally one that works properly wish it supported other scanners and sorted categories individually otherwise totally awesome HTC evo
Images are so tiny you can't read them
I love this app. Its a lil complicated til you get the hang of it but its so awesome you can scan things or search for things and it pulls up all the info! I love it! It has its quirks but its been so much more helpful than any of the other similar apps. I tried tons before I found this one. I unlocked it and don't regret my purchase.
Even though the description says manual entry is allowed, it isn't an option. I have many old books that are privately published and have to be manually entered. So I just wasted an hour on this app before I realized I can't use it.
Doesn't allow me to transfer from one device to other .doesn't see files transfered. BTW sends emails an details without owners knowledge according to app spec!!!
If you want to add anything you have to purchase full version!
This app worked great for me and I've loved it (even paid to unlock it). However I bought a new phone and when I imported my lists, all my pictures were tiny and illegible. I spent hours scanning things in just to have them be tiny and useless. I don't see why there can't just be a login system. That would get me to 5 stars.
Books, films and games work fine but I can't add comics. I can search for them but when added the are always "null". This is stopping me rating this higher.

I wanted to import my boardgamegeek collection. I kept getting errorsso went to the help and the instructions were so convoluted I gave up. Having to rename a file to something specific, and connect your phone to your PC, just to import a file, is ridiculous.
