About Memory-Map

The Memory-Map app turns your phone or tablet into a full-featured Outdoor GPS or Marine Chart Plotter, and allows you to navigate with Ordnance Survey Topo maps, 4WD maps or Marine charts, even without a wireless internet signal.

Maps are downloaded on-the-fly and can be pre-loaded so that they can be used offline. Once the app and maps are loaded to the phone or tablet, cellular network coverage or internet connection is not required for real time GPS navigation.

The Memory-Map app can be used as a standalone GPS navigator, but it can also be used in conjunction with the Windows PC app (free download) for planning, printing and loading up maps, waypoints and routes to the phone/tablet.

Memory-Map includes free access to 1:250,000 scale topographic maps and many other free maps around the world. More detailed maps are available for download and purchase with a free try-before-you-buy, time-limited demo option. Available maps include Ordnance Survey, Hema, USGS quads, NOAA, British Admiralty, and DeLorme. Maps can be used on your PC as well as your phone and tablet. The Cloud Sync feature allows you to keep the overlay data consistent on all your devices.

Features include:

Access a vast range of Worldwide maps and charts.
Automatically downloads a free map of your current location
Create and edit marks and routes.
Import and export marks, routes and tracks in the open GPX format
Display; Position, Course, Speed, Heading, Altitude and averages

"Verdict: The Memory-Map App is a truly excellent, competent product, representing real value for money. It's straightforward to use, with just enough preference settings and options to describe it as customizable. Route-creation and route-following are ridiculously easy to set up, yet provide a tremendous range of route data. You can also import and export GPX files (via email). A really strong product at this price point." Andrew Knight, Yacht Arabella blog

"After buying about 6 navigational applications for my tablet I finally got one that really works the way it should. I now have a handheld version of my sailboat's navigation system. I am very happy with this app and would recommend it to any avid sailor"

"I've tried all the mapping/tracking applications I can find and I rate this best. The 1:25k scale is essential for walkers and the ability to create a route at home or to log it (recording your time & distance etc) as you go along is superb. I like the direction indicator to show where you are heading on the map, the ability to save, describe and name tracks is neat. It's easy to slide the map about from your current position to see where you are heading next, the zooming in and out facility is good. I found it reasonably easy to learn how to use."

"This is not a cheap navigation program, it is a professional tool for viewing raster maps. And for this purpose, it is excellent. For viewing topo maps, this is the best software and hardware combination for the job, this alone was my reason to get an Android tablet, and it was the right decision."

I use this app on 2 mobile devices and pc to handle all my 4wding trip planning through Victoria. The vicmap series invaluable and the ability to import and calibrate external maps such as Rooftops is an incredibly great feature. Map caching isnt the easiest but its a small price to pay. And the costs of paying for the import functions are a bit steep. It should be a single license cost across your entire account, not pay each yime you want import functionality.

I love these maps, especially the hunting boundaries. However, caching maps for offline use is near impossible. Please development team - take a look at how the New Zealand Maps app by Atlogis caches maps for offline use. It's so easy and would vastly improve your product for those if us using your app when we go bush. Thanks!

This is a third rate edition of the PC-PDA version I downloaded several years ago. There is no on chart position window showing lat lon and depth. No scale of distance, no gps simulator and no previous chart used. The quality of the charts is v good, but little else to recommend it. You can download paid for charts one day and find out that they have disappeared the next.. Strongly advise prospective buyers to go to MX Mariner and see what can be done for a fraction of the cost.

Beware buying the 1:25000 OS maps. You can't download the data directly. You have to view the area you want to see while connected to the Internet. It then downloads just that bit of map. You have to do this for every device. This is a real pain and ruins an otherwise superb product.

Disappointing in Memory Map now. I have spent probably over £100 buying OS 1:50k, 1:25k Marine Charts but I am now finding it very difficult to access them via my smart phone

X70%
by X####:

I bought DVD os maps 1:50000 and installed them on my pc. Got an I phone, installed the app and it all transferred across easily. I have since changed to an Android phone, installed the ANDROID app and I cannot get my files transferred across from my PC. They are happy to sell me new map though. I've given up!!

Works well when i can find the maps but it doesn't always retain them in the program so i have to reopen them directly from the file. I have't worked out how to use it other than north up which is bit of a nuisance . Resizing and repositioning seems eccentric. However when sorted it works well but not as well as my garmin.

I use the 1:50,000 map of Britain all the time but it takes a lot of memory. However, it seems impossible to load on to SD card. Even the assistant manager at the Samsung store can't get the instructions to load anything other than the road atlas. Secondly gpx tracks are no longer recognised on my galaxy note 4. I am assuming this is something to do with the new marshmallow update as they still work on my nexus

Great app. Although it doesn't seem to work offline. When tethered to my mobile the maps scroll through on my tablet but when I disconnect I can't see any portion of the map that hasn't already rendered. I have purchased and downloaded the map but it is only functuonal while online.

X70%
by X####:

It works really well but you do need to read the instructions and tutorials to bulk download for offline. It is tricky sometimes because they are not always easy to find and the website is pretty poor. The HD 25,000 OS is amazing resolution better than anything I can do with a paper map.

The boat speed and compass readings didn't work on my Android phone. Having to pay every time you open the application is ridiculous. Also can't start app if you don't have internet access.

I've been using memorymap for a few years now and fortunately I'm quite techy otherwise I'd find some aspects quite tricky. Having said that, once mastered, it's a joy to use on both my Garmin and smart phones.

Very useful for tracking cycle rides and kayaking and also geocaching. Yes, OS maps are not cheap but quality and you can buy only what you need. Disappointed that icons on Android are not the same as PC so you can't transfer mark files between them.

I downloaded the app, then a Topo map of Western Australia (demo). I liked the map and the features so I paid $59.99 for the map. Now every time I try to use the f^&ing map I get asked if I want to buy it! I'VE PAID FOR IT! Just give me the damm map! I have tried the support email and had no reply. I have replied to the email that sent my receipt for $59.99 still no reply. I just wanted a detailed topo map of my state but all I have for my $59.99 is an overveiw map without so much as road names and a demand for more money if I try to zoom in. So in short it was a waste of money.

Used for 6 day kayak trip and worked great. Lost a few tracked courses? But overall great and must have tool. Wish I could review and save my saved tracks? Maybe I'm missing something? Thanks Memorymap.

The older version worked great. The new updated version 3.8 now works well but only after a frustrating week of trying to get it to read my Canadian Hydrographic Services charts. These charts worked really well prior to the update and work well once again but it took a lot of reading and communications with the company. They really have to work on their roll-out of their updates.

I've used this extensively for years. Invaluable tool in remote survey work, camping and just exploring. Downloaded whole 1:25k topos in bulk and stored on device - this feature is not immediately obvious but the developers can explain how. Imported my custom raster outputs from arc, or georef'd tif's. The team provide the best customer service of any developer. I ask obscure questions and have always had good detailed answers. Heaps of self help online too. Well done those guys!

I am a mm customer but this app makes it impossible to use my owned maps. Want to see list of bought maps need to disable download over data, need to work with android 6

I have been a user of Memory Map for a few years on PC, laptop and smart phones. Once installed I have not expirienced any problems. However I did have real difficulties in migrating licences and data between old and new phones. In the end it was my son with a degree in computer science who resolved the issue.

by X####:

Already have a ADV3000 so the 1:25000 maps cost nothing on the tablet. However the ability to follow a route or produce a track to transfer to my PC is brilliant. No gimmicks, no unnecessary crap and thankfully no adverts. Absolutely fits the bill. After leading many walks with this app and having used it weekly for a couple of years I repeat my comment that this is a great app.

X70%
by X####:

It would be better if one could split a route when limited to 25 way points with my old Magellan and then rejoin it after exporting the gpxs for other users I share with who have other devices that are not limited. It would also be better if it was compatible with my Magellan as it loses the ability to beep when approaching a Waypoint. Other than that it is very good

X70%
by X####:

This used to be good - basically expensive junk now. No longer records track when the app is backgrounded (even when set to do so) - just takes a single GPS shot when you turn the screen back on. Has difficulty seeing maps stored on an SD card, requires a file manager app to reassign file associations - Memory-Map make a fuss on their website about using Astro, which doesn't work. SD File Manager does work (today). Email to tech support gets no response. Pay LOTS ($+£) for map licenses, and MM deliver junk

Most of the bad reviews here are solvable, so don't be put off by them. I moved from a road angel navigator to this app and it's more reliable on the phone. I use it all the time in the car, on foot, sailing or when I'm flying. Great to know where you are in the air with height, speed and track recording available for all modes of transport. Only place it doesn't track your position is underground! Tip: use the tool to work out best route, or download gpx route from Google maps and use it as a sat nav.

Have used this for a few years now. First on the fairly antiquated adventurer 2800, and now just use my phone (android). A few teething problems getting the complete map downloaded, but support was very helpful, and got there in the end. As for the app, it does everything I need a GPS map to do and don't have any issues with the software. I would recommend.

X70%
by X####:

Used to love this app now it's a pain. It will not find maps loaded on sd card which seems strange as that's how memory map suggests you store them so they don't kill device memory. The only way to open them is through file commander or similar but when you search for a place it reverts to 1:250000 Road atlas. Shame really as OS 1:50000 used to work a treat.

Delighted. On a defender 2 device with all uk OSGB down loaded , visible even in bright light, battery lasts several days of walking use, software quick and easy, interfaces with PC well. The on screen dashboard with distance, position etc can easily be pulled up and down and you choose what goes where. Only disadvantage is the interface from 1:10 to 1:25 ( other way round works fine), where you have to zoom a lot to get it back to 1:25

Had this App for about a year now no good on Android. Customer service are very rude and no help. Basically told me tough we have your money now. Paid for 2016 HD map and can only get about 3km on tablet

Complicated. I wanted to map my runs and get profiles. I like the maps part...but use another app to run with I'm not very tech savvy though.

I've been using Memory Map in various forms for many years. Although it's not perfect (show me an app that is) and it has come a long way. The ability to import a route in GPX format from Dropbox or email attachment, then download the necessary map along that route is excellent. Support for offline open source maps especially for urban areas would be helpful as well as the ability to turn off the track logging. The latter can make the map a bit messy when you are walking and only look at the app now & then.

X70%

It did lose my maps when my tablet updated to Android 6.0.1 but I sorted that using their FAQs. I've used Memory Map for years, firstly by planning walks on my pc and uploading them to my Garmin gps for walking and now on my tablet and phones. My licence is good for 5 devices and it's easy to migrate licences when I change phones although it's a tad irritating that I can't migrate my old windows desktop licence to my android tablet. If I could do that I'd give it 5 stars

As an OziExplorer user for many years I find Memory Map very easy to use and a good product to use. Lacks some of the features of OE but it is easier to get up and running for a new user.

Have been a Memory Map user since 2003 and would not consider anything else. The HD OS maps are outstanding and easy to use, even on a limiter smartphone screen.

Absolute Guff!!! A lot of money for something that just refuses to work on my android device. No sense to how to install maps, migrate licences. It keeps taking me round in a little catch 22 of its own making...don't waste your money

It could be so much better! Discovered the full map doesn't fully download in the field with no mobile signal - apparently it can be done in a long-winded way, rather than a 'download full map' button. Cloud sync is severely restricted unless you pay more money - would have been nice to know before buying a map. I've an expired demo map and a bought map of the same area. If I scroll out, it defaults to the expired / pixellatef one with an option to activate, but apparently not one to delete it. There doesn't appear to be an option to display the OS grid reference, just long/lat. You can only choose portrait or landscape mode as you start - again, giving the option would be useful. On the positive, HD maps are really clear.

X70%
by X####:

Haven't tried the app on the trail yet. I'm 50/50 on whether it's good. You can't download all the maps if you only paid for digital content but you can search for a place by name and send a route to another device (although this didn't work once). Zooming in and out seems quite clunky. Might just about be good enough for day trail walking, we'll see.

X70%

Great map but app should be a lot better after such i long time. . Online instructions are very poor but slowly I'm working some things out but needs revision

X70%

I have been using this for quite a while now. When it works it is fine but the problems are frequent and backup poor. The licensing system is a nightmare that seems designed to drive the user mad. I have just downloaded again and in spite of having several licences costing several hundred pounds over the years I am still not able to use the app. It really needs some serious work that the company seems unwilling to undertake. Best to avoid the paid version until they do. If I had not spent so much money on this over the years I would not still be trying to get it to work.

B70%
by B####:

What should be easy turns into a nightmare. It finds the maps I own 1:50 k, but will not activate, seems it want's more money. Bye Bye I have managed to install maps by buying a license to use older maps, but it's hard work doing it. Now that they on my phone it's OK.

X70%
by X####:

I have the entire country on the older maps that where expensive when I purchased them and you want even more money from me so that I can keep using them. How do we sort this out :-( thanks for the help!! Thanks for the reply but I purchased the extra licence last year, all was working fine them all of a sudden it stopped working

Uploading purchased maps from CD takes the patience of a saint. Memory Map are probably hoping I'll give up and buy from Digital Download store. Well, I'm more inclined to defect to Garmin!
