Pixly - Pixel Art Editor for Android
If you're interested in pixel art, Pixly is a must have in your toolbox. I've been pixeling as part of a project for a while now and can't recommend this app highly enough. Pixly has some excellent tools and the UI makes working on your creations easy and intuitive. Since installing, I make pixel art every day, in part because the app makes it so accessible. Even with powerful programs like Photoshop available I still use this. I've happily paid for the non-ad version because it's worth every penny!
This app is great! The color palettes are really helpful for limiting myself, which I consider to be a big part of pixel art. There are very few ads, which is a marvel for a free app as good as this one. Honestly, I wouldn't have minded more—you guys deserve the revenue! The animations I've made with this app are also great: I can control framerates, onionskins, and frame placement all with ease. The selection tools work great, there are a wide variety of options, it feels like a computer application rather than a mobile one. 10/10
This is an amazing app for any artists who wants to do pixel art on the go. It has so many useful functions and the possibilities are truly endless with what you can create with this. But my problem is that I've used another app called dotPict and what I really liked was that you have a cursor for drawing instead of drawing with just your finger. That way you can more accurately place the pixels. Dotpict doesn't have that much functions so that's why I'm switching but it'll be great if a cursor is here
On Galaxy S5 Neo, you can't configure grids or anything like that. You just get a red grid that doesn't allow any editing. I tried it on my old phone and everything worked fine. Also, it won't let you disable the dots like on my S4. Edit Don't know what happened but it's been working. Can it use isometric grids?
I'm using this application on a tablet+stylus and it's unbelievable, in a good way. I don't even use to buy applications but this one, even though it's free and has very very few ads(only before saving your work) it got me to the point where I decided to donate. I've tried to use it on the smartphone as well, but for me, it's strange as i got used to a bigger display. Thank you and keep up the good work !!
This is the best pixel art app I have come across yet. It isn't perfect, obviously, but it is the only one to provide what I consider to be a sufficient set of tools and freedom. Other apps have strict restrictions on things like image size, but Pixly is not one of them. It is definitely worth checking out.
Fantastic art and animation app. Very versatile! Only gripe is that some UI elements such as the mini viewer cannot be disabled permanently, but that's not nearly enough to rate this down a star. The demo version is respectably non -intrusive and hardly nagged me at all. Much respect to the devs!
It's feature-packed, and very well-made. Obviously, this has had a lot of time put into it. Like most programs of this sort, it has a learning curve, but it's a pretty easy one due to its simple interface.
Awesome! It awesome but theres 2 problems 1 is when I go to pick a cool and clicking the box with the 3 dots it does not let me use any of those colors and 2 why can't i put in a hex color code like I like make other colors not just use the ones you provide me with! Thanks hope you fix the problems
Best app you would want on your phone. As a artist who likes to draw pixel from time to time I love this app. Just wondering when will their be an update? I also am noticing a few bugs with projects that are large and has a lot of frames. Anyways I love this app, keep up the work.
I love the Pixly editor. I'm a beginner myself and I love the wide variety of tools, brushes and color pallets there are. The app looks great because everything is basically built with pixel art and is easy to navigate around. Other pixel art apps usually have a lack of tools, lack of colors (without paying) or a lack of flow preventing you from working at a good speed. Pixly is a perfect mashup of everything mobile pixel art apps need to be, and I haven't even tried the animation portion yet. You don't even have to worry about ads becuase they are only present when you save your work making your art time uninterrupted. I imagine that this app would be hard to use on phones with smaller screens without extreme precision or zooming in often, but that goes with all mobile art apps. I will defiantly be donating becuase this pixel art app is a work of art itself.
I looove this app! There are so many tools, it's very useful and a great app for pixel art. But one thing that troubles me, I use another pixel art app that allows me to export the file at a larger size and it keeps the resolution. If it would be possible to save my picture at a bigger size this this be my new favorite app!
It is a bit hard to use at first but it gets better, that makes me happy. Also, my phone does not have a back button unless you slide the bottom of the screen up and when I do sometimes it selects something I do not want. Please add a back button It will make me happy!
Amazing app. Easy to use and many unrestricted features. The only issue i have is that when opening a file for editing the color previously added is gone and the black pixels are all that's left. I don't understand why the colors aren't being saved. Using galaxy S7
I just love this app becuase I'm a pixel artist that does pixel art only on my pc because all the other pixel art apps stink. So I was exited to get this app and when i got on it I was surprised with all the cool tools it has not even my 10 dollar pro program doesn't have. Its It's definitely with it and i love how its free and dosent spam with adds.
I dont mean to be rude and all...... I also add 4 star so can you please fix that its always crashing on mine when I do a lot of work... It is a good app maybe its my device please reply and I would rate 5 star... I would also want to shout out this app if could animate my thing... (I would like to do youtube with your app)
Has all the features you could possibly want, comparable to a fully-featured drawing program you'd have on a PC. The interface is clean and intuitive, and best of all, the app is completely free! Just one little thing I'd suggest to the developer: the palette editing controls (remove and swap) seem to be broken at the moment.
This is EXACTLY what i was looking for! The fact that I can make images and sprites with a ui like a desktop program is what really sold me on this. PLEASE donate to this guy, he deserves it!
Really REALLY great app! Recommend for all pixel artists, also good for general doodling. I am not sure if you are still supporting/updating features but here are some suggestions/requests. feature request primary-- add button to manually set zoom by % and or snap to 100% when adjusting canvas size or resizing the image we should be able to manually choose the dimensions by pixel size or % change brush sizes (square brush is fine) option to disable gestures for zoom/pan add shortcut key for Edit menu secondary-- polygon selection tool (better than lasso) would be nice if isometric cube was translucent (able to see bottom tile) make stamp tool a bit more functional, ie. allow square/rectangular stamping and multiple stamp patterns to facilitate testing of gamevtiles import gif image as frames or as spritesheet tertiary-- windows version
I loved it!... but.. I just downloaded this app today, and I thought that even though I couldnt find any rpg makers, I could still animate the story I made, I made the things that I wanted to, but then, when I started animating.... the app crashed every time I tried to continue it.. I really, REALLY wanted to make this happen... I hope this can be fixed.. ive been looking for an app like this for at least two weeks
It's a great idea, but my thumb is too big. I need a stylus. I know there is a mini view and a ton of features to help with this problem, but it is just is hard. Also, I couldn't figure out how to make an animation. Still love the idea!
This app is great. It does everything I want. The only problem I have is that pinch zoom in/out tends to leave stray pixels on my artwork. I keep having to go back and touch it up over and over again.
Pixly is the best pixel art program I've ever used on or off the phone. It's not too advanced so users just trying it out will have fun, but has such a mountain of functionality hidden inside of it that you can make pretty much whatever the heck you want with it! I'm currently creating a game using pixel art, and this is my primary art program for the project. I recommend it to any pixel art creator. If you like color schemes the palette maker and editor is sooo clean. The dev responds fast to bug reports.
This app is great! It's easy to use, tons of tools, custom colors and probably tons more. I was originally just looking for a pixel art app and this one comes with a GIF maker. That is a huge bonus. My only problem is that when I load a previous creation, I can't seem to actually open it. It's just a checkerboard of white and blue. I would like to request help with that. I would be willing to donate if I had money to spare. This would also be a lot cooler if animations could be exported as .mp4 files.
It's a great app but the only issue I have is the ads. Each time I go to save or do anything on the "file" tab, I'm forced to wait for an ad that is annoying because it will pause or cut in the middle of my music if playing any.
Just, wow...It has everything you need to make simple and even complex artwork. I can only see one flaw and that is sometimes when you press the eraser or fill bucket, it clears everything you have created or fills the screen permanently. I have lost many objects to that...*cough cough* Huge Mech *cough cough*
It's my favourite app! Very powerful but crashes on larger files or repeated zooming. The gui needs work too, creating grids for example. But still better than everything else by miles! It crashes too often to be reliable... But still... Love it anyway.. Would like more than 2 active colours and favourites toolbar that saves the setting you use...
I donated money early on about 2 years ago, and when I installed it on a tablet and my new phone, the donation check fails so I have to watch ads and confirm a nag message every time the app starts even though I paid money. It has been over 2 months and 2 emails sent to the author to resolve the issue and I'm clearly being ignored. So I'm giving this app 1 star for nonexistent support. Hopefully Aseprite will get an Android port soon so I can completely forget about Pixly. Do not donate money to this app, you'll just be flushing your money down the toilet.
For some reason the app keeps shutting down like ten minutes after i put them templates on. And it doesn't save my work...... Probably just because of my phone but just wanted to say that.
A glow tool where it starts as a opaque cooor then goes to transparent. And the next idea is probably too much but whatever... You could add a community where people can post their pixel art and get feedback from others... Kinda like deviant art! Otherwise this is the best pixel art software :D
What a gem of a free app. The app itself is very powerful. Layers, animation, gradients, opacity, timeline and many different features. Simply great! It doesn't teach you where to find all the features, but has a guide online that will walk you through. It was a surprise to keep finding new features to use. Keep up the great work! P.S. friend was jealous it's not on Apple store.
Don't let this app die! It's the best pixel art app on the play store! :( This app is as professional as mobile is going to get. I am using it actively to make pixel art for my next game when I do not have access to a computer and the results are amazing! If you haven't donated yet, do it. We need apps like these.
been using it for my art for months. though the recent update doesn't let me import previous things i've worked on, as if i never saved them in the first place. really slows me and my commissions down. hope to see it fixed soon!
been making animations and stills in pixelart for almost a year using Pixly. with use of almost all of its functionality i can say this app is super! muchas gracias Gustavo!!m/ one little flaw appeared since last big update- animation preview can be acrivated only in letterbox view, otherwise play/pause control does not work. any updates on this fix? Thanks again)
Finally! I've been looking for this for a long time. This beats all the apps that I used before. It's packed with different tools and stuffs like tile, gif animation, etc. Oh yeah, never forget that IT'S FREE!
Love it. It has so many great features to use and is very easy to use as well. Feels very clean and polished and works far better than any app like it. I would definitely recommend to anyone. My only issue was that I can't use the layers or frames in portrait orientation but that's not a big issue.
I absolutely adore this app! But as of the most recent update, I've found that all the menus, buttons, and controls are nearly too small for me to press. It could just be that my phone screen's really tiny, but I would like to see this fixed in a future update.

I don't know if it's my phone or the app or both but I can hardly do anything on it. It crashes on me every five minutes and I tried reinstalling and I restarted my phone. Maybe my phone just doesn't work well but if it is the app then yea. Otherwise, when I get my new phone I'll try again because this app is actually really good for my art if it doesn't crash all the time.

I never write reviews but had to stop and thank you for this app. Being able to do my art on the go has made my life way easier. I've tried all the pixel art apps on the store and this is by far the best. I can't sing your praise enough, thank you so much for making this amazing app! My only regret is not being in a position to donate money to you!
