The Health and Ecosystems app will encourage you to reflect on the importance of maintaining healthy human populations and ecosystems for the future.

The way we live is changing the Earth’s ecosystems - its biodiversity, soil and water systems, climate and the air we breathe. These changes are already affecting human health, but it is future generations – our children and our children’s children – who will pay the price for how we live today.

Until now, there has been little understanding about the value that people attach to current and future generations in terms of health. This is even more the case in relation to the natural environment.

We have been asking people across Britain what they think about health and environmental policies that will bring different types of benefits to current and future generations. Our results, based on more than 12,000 responses, have revealed some surprising patterns.

The Health and Ecosystems app is free to download. It has been developed by McKenna Consultants Ltd for the University of York as part of an Economic and Social Research Council Transformative Research grant on the Health of Populations and Ecosystems (HOPE) (grant reference ES/L003015/1).
