Matemáticos na História

Matemáticos na História é uma apresentação cronológica de alguns factos marcantes da História de Portugal acompanhada da referência a alguns dos matemáticos do mundo inteiro que contribuíram de uma forma relevante para o desenvolvimento da Matemática e da Ciência.
A exposição MATER integrou-se nas comemorações “2013 Ano da Matemática do Planeta Terra”.

Composta por cinco módulos: TEMPO, ESPAÇO, VIDA, ARTE e QUOTIDIANO, pretendeu mostrar como a Matemática desempenha um papel fundamental em questões relacionadas com o nosso planeta.

Os sistemas de coordenadas, munidos de escalas apropriadas, constituem um dos instrumentos matemáticos que melhor permitem compreender e estudar um dado fenómeno, em toda a sua dimensão e com toda a correcção.

No módulo TEMPO introduziu-se uma escala temporal de modo a que toda a história do Universo ficasse confinada a um único ano civil. Nesta mudança de referencial, cada 500 anos da existência do Universo corresponde a 1 segundo do ano civil. Desta forma, toda a história da civilização moderna corresponde aos últimos segundos desse ano. Assim os factos mais relevantes do Universo (conhecido) ficam devidamente referenciados, criando-se, deste modo, uma visão global mais rigorosa, mais completa, mais abrangente e, provavelmente, mais surpreendente do que a que, eventualmente, tenhamos.

Ao apresentar esta aplicação pretendemos prolongar no tempo a exposição e possibilitar a professores e alunos uma interacção entusiasmante com a cronologia dos factos históricos e das vidas dos matemáticos. Mathematicians in History is a chronological presentation of some key events in the history of Portugal accompanied by reference to some of the mathematicians of the world who have contributed in a significant way to the development of mathematics and science.
The exhibition MATER joined the commemorations "2013 Year of Mathematics of Planet Earth".

Composed of five modules: TIME, SPACE, LIFE, ART and DAILY, intended to show how mathematics plays a key role in issues related to our planet.

Coordinate systems fitted with appropriate scales, constitute one of the mathematical tools that better enable you understand and study a given phenomenon in all its dimensions and quite correctly.

In TIME module was introduced a timescale so that the entire history of the universe be confined to a single calendar year. This change of reference, every 500 years of existence of the universe corresponds to 1 second of the calendar year. Thus, the whole history of modern civilization is the last seconds of this year. Thus the most relevant facts of the universe (known) are properly referenced, creating thus an overall more accurate, more complete, more comprehensive and probably more surprising than that eventually have vision.

By submitting this application we intend to extend the exposure time and enable teachers and students an exciting interaction with the chronology of historical events and the lives of mathematicians.
